In a caring yet overprotective sort of way, the Hubby and the Boss (dun, dun, dun) have conspired to keep me home from work for yet another day. They want me to fully recover (i.e not infect everyone at the office) and not over exert myself too soon (not me). Seriously, that was what yesterday was all about fellas, but whatever, an order is an order. And if I have to stay home, then fine. It will make my “What I Ate Wednesday” blog easier to complete.
For those of you who are virgins to the blogging world, like me, What I Ate Wednesday is a themed blog created by this fantastically funny lady, Jenn from Peas and Crayons, which explores every little morsel you ate or drank on that particular day. Sounds fun and June is Sensible Snacking month, and we all know how I feel about Snacking, so this should be a piece of cake. Oh wait, all my snacks are at the office I’m presently banned from… Shit! Piece of cake and apparently snacks aside, let the games begin.
For my 6:30 am breakfast, I had a cough drop (not because a horrible coughing jag woke me up, making the Hubby or the Boss right by any means) and some coffee (sweet, sweet nectar of the gods). Even though I am most definitely a morning person, I can’t eat right away; gotta give my tummy time to rise and shine. Since I will be playing hookie today with the Boss’s…ummm, permission is not the right word….edict, more like, I might as well enjoy myself and maybe check a few things off the good old to do list. I promise not go all crazy on it and make myself sick(er). Really, I’m practically 100% now and ready to get back into the swing of things.
I logged into work for an hour or really two and then drank/ate my real breakfast around 9:30 am: a Strawberry Banana Smoothie and a piece of toasted Granola Bread with butter. I get this bread from the Breadsmith in Lakewood, and it is to die for delicious. Seriously, I don’t buy regular bread from the grocery store anymore. It’s all Breadsmith, all the time. And with over a zillion flavors (I might be exaggerating a bit) made fresh daily, I never get bored. The Hubby and I have become completely spoiled. And, this particular flavor is multi-grain, so I’m getting some good carbs in there. I could be their sponsor, except they have no idea who I am or that I even have a blog, so this is all for the love of bread. ♥
I’m getting excited because tomorrow is my 3rd CSA pick up, and I still haven’t even shared the spoils of week 2 with you yet. Forgive me; I’ve been a teeny bit under the weather.
Here is Week 2 of my CSA share in all it’s glory, minus the beets because I gave those away this week. Sorry, I needed a beet break. I received another bunch of Red Leaf Lettuce, which I am more than halfway through thanks to my salad loving days and ways, another beautiful Beefsteak Tomato, which made its way into Sunday’s Caprese Salad, Kale, which has popped up in my morning smoothies (only once thus far, but I will go back), Kohlrabi, more Green Onions (I literally just finished the batch I got in week 1), Garlic Scapes (ooooh, so excited for these) and another pound of meat. Where’s the beef! The Hubby and family actually put a pretty good dent in the meat on Sunday, and the rest is chilling in the freezer. The Kohlrabi and the Green Onions are part of tonight’s dinner, since I think I might be up for some actual cooking again.
After eating breakfast and lying low for a while, I did some work in the yard. I was only out there for one hour exactly. I know because I set the timer on my iPhone. See, I can behave. While outside, I noticed my raspberries bushes were coming along nicely and while I might not be eating these today, I sure will be eating them before the weekend. So close to ready…
I also snipped a bunch of hydrangeas because flowers make me happy, especially free flowers from my own yard (no, I didn’t snag them from the neighbor’s…that would be wrong, plus they were home). As soon as the timer on my phone went off, I called it quits, came in out of the heat and rewarded myself with a nice long shower, and then some lunch, a scrump-diddly-umptious (I’m related to Ned Flanders) bowl of homemade granola with a scoop or two of vanilla soy yogurt and fresh blueberries. I cannot get enough of this latest batch: walnuts, almonds, cherries, and almond extract.
After lunch, I checked on some things at work before calling it quits and taking a nice long nap. I guess I’m finally catching up on those missed napping opportunities. I woke from my nap feeling a little stuffy and congested (are these new symptoms?), but quickly dismissed it and ate a snack instead, while catching up on some of my DVR shows. Does anyone else watch the Housewives of New Jersey. Those women are crazy. It’s like a horrible train wreck, and I can’t look away. Obviously, I have issues.
When the Hubby got home from work, we put together a dinner of scrambled eggs with green onions and Asiago cheese, some more Granola bread, and Kohlrabi home fries. These were pretty cool, and I promise to share the recipe a little later.
I love having breakfast for dinner.
We don’t eat dessert often at home, but last night we indulged with the Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars, and this was my first trying them.
They were really good, but missing a little crunch. Next time I make them, and I’m sure I’ll be making these again, I’ll throw in a little rice crisps for added texture. Does anybody out there know of a good brand for natural rice crisps? I’m open to suggestions.
I’m starting to get weary and maybe even a tad more stuffy (say it ain’t so), so that’s all for me today folks. Hope you have a great day.
