Happy 2013 Lovelies!
I’d really like to call you an affectionate yet extremely endearing cuss word, but I’m afraid some people wouldn’t appreciate my humor. Plus, I don’t want to start 2013 off on the wrong foot.
Speaking of feet (smooth transition, right?), I rocked my brand new pumps on New Year’s Eve. Adding just over five inches to my meager five two frame, I dominated in what could only be seen as giant glitter bombs on my feet. Need I say more? Well, I’m going to since these bad boys rock my world, and I feel you should know their real name: Love Fury. My step brother said “all I’m missing is the pole,” but what does he know.
While I know my footwear is super exciting, it’s not the reason for your little visit here today. You’re here for the food, and an entire day of it, to be exact.
Yep, it’s What I Ate Wednesday!
As always, remember to head over to Peas and Crayons to see what everybody else threw down their gullets and share a little comment love with our comedic host, Ms. Jenn.
Much as my title suggests, I’m going to share with you my first full day of eats in 2013. Since I’m still coming out of my holiday sloth coma, this post is going to be light on words and heavy on pictures. Visual stimulation is where it’s at anyway.
Breakfast was a boatload (or really a pitcher) of lemon water and a smoothie packed with banana, a plethora of fresh and frozen raspberries, and a handful of strawberries. Truth time: I actually drank this water all throughout the day, not just for breakfast. If this was all breakfast, I never would have left the bathroom.
Lunch was a short time later at one of my favorite local restaurant’s, The Roots Cafe. It’s an all organic and vegetarian cafe, and probably the only place I could eat right now, without feeling a drop of guilt or exhibiting any sloth like behaviors.
I had a roasted veggie and hummus packed sandwich on multi-grain bread and half a bowl of chunky tomato bisque soup, with some serious underlying heat.
The only reason I didn’t finish the soup is because I was full, and I’m trying to go back to listening to my body and not force feed myself just because I can. Have no fear (you were scared thinking about my poor uneaten soup; I understand), the Hubby scarfed down my leftovers.
After lunch, I ran some errands including a quick stop at Earth Fare to pick up some supplies (read veggies and fruit) for the week. I came home, took a short siesta, and then had some coffee fireside.
Just to be clear, I didn’t eat any feet, and I realize my socks have no business being in this picture, but since I showed my glam shoes on New Year’s Eve, I thought I’d share my comfy socks the next day. Whilst wearing my comfy socks, I snacked on an orange.
With coffee and an orange fueling my blood, I got off my lazy gluteus maximus and got to work in the kitchen.
Dinner was a giant bowl of red beans and rice (Sir Mix-a-Lot would be proud), mixed with corn, some garlic, an onion, bell peppers, radishes and seasoning. It was warm, comforting and healthy, which was exactly what I wanted. Bonus points were awarded because I also made enough for it to be today’s lunch too.
And now time for an abrupt ending.
That’s it. That’s all she wrote.
What did you eat on New Year’s Day, and what did you wear on New Year’s Eve?

LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR HEELS!! They are adorable & I’m so glad you decided to rock them on NYE!

Jessie – I thought you might appreciate the shoes. 😉
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Now those are SHOES!! Love the look of your hummus/veggie sandwich. I need to make some tomato soup…I have several recipes, need to settle on one and do it!! I should just cut up the lemons like that and put it in the water. Guess I do need one of those citrus zinger things. Happy New Year, Meghan!!
Meghan says
You still haven’t gotten a zinger?! You definitely should; I take mine with me everywhere. I keep the picture of water and lemons at home, but the zinger goes with me always.
Happy New Year Fran.
kirsten@FarmFreshFeasts says
Love the shoes. Agree with your stepbro (though I note you don’t deny the lack of a pole).
The red beans and rice look really yummy to me now. Must be time for breakfast!
I ate black eyed peas with kale yesterday (and will again today!) like any good superstitious person does New Years Day. No recipe on the blog, though it’s up on my FFF FB page.
Happy New Year!
Meghan says
Truth: I think stripper heels are hots..it’s the lack of clothing I have a problem with, but the shoes are fine by me.
Black eyed peas sounds delicious, and I haven’t had those in forever or at least since I got a black eyed pea stew last spring in New Orleans at a South American restaurant. It was to die for.
I didn’t realize you had a FFF FB. I’ll have to check it out.
Happy New Year!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
Loooooove the shoes. Seriously so cute. (Psh, don’t listen to boys about footwear haha)
And that sandwich with the veggies and hummus sounds amazing!
Meghan says
I don’t boys don’t know anything about shoes…alright most boys.
The sandwich was scrumptious.
Happy New Year Liz.
Antonia @ Health Inspirations says
Happy New Year!!!! Those shoes look like killers, I never last very long on heels. I’d much rather wear flats although there’s nothing that looks better on a woman’s foot than pumps.
Meghan says
Happy New Year Antonia! The shoes are killer and fine to walk in so long as I’m on solid ground. When you factor in the snow and ice, they were a little treacherous but so worth it.
Sunnie@moderngirlnutrition says

First–I LOOOOOOVVVVVE your heels!!!!! And your food all looks delicious as usual! I love the quick fix of red beans and rice–including the corn, etc. and having leftovers for lunch today–I may just steal that idea–looks simple and YUMMY! 🙂 Happy New Year!!
Meghan says
You should definitely do the rice and beans. Super easy and it can be whatever flavors you want. It’s really filling and delicious.
Happy New Year!
Cait says
