Last week I had such a good time, sharing with all of you my week in review, that I decided to do it again, and again, and again. Focusing on all the things I actually accomplished, versus all the things still left to do is really a fabulous feeling. I highly recommend it. Let’s get listing. Here’s some of the things I did manage to get done in the past seven days.
- I had a date night with the Hubby, where we dined on Arepas’. Arepas are an “all white corn pocket-like tortilla with melted mozzarella inside.” I got the Veggie Arepas which came stuffed with corn, jalapeno, lettuce, onions, peppers, and pineapple. It was my first ever arepas, and I loved it.
- I cleaned the boudoir, with special emphasis on the bed. This is where the magic happens, at least the majority of it anyway, so you need to tidy things up from time to time. Plus, I had a cold not too long ago and the Hubby had the flu last week, so I was really trying to disinfect the area we lay our heads for hours on end. Specifically, I washed the comforter, the blankets, the sheets, our actual pillows, hand scrubbed the headboard, the bed frame and vacuumed the mattress. You think clean sheets feel good; try the whole damn bed.
- I spent a good five hours on MLK Jr. Day curled up in front of a fire with a book, my iPad and my People magazine. It was the epitome of rest and relaxation.
- I made a double batch of granola and a double batch of energy bars on Saturday, so we’d have breakfast and snacks this week. Too bad the Hubby already ate his share of energy bars.
- I vacuumed the living room, the Hubby’s “manchuary,” the dining room and the kitchen. I’m not a big fan of the actual work involved, but I can appreciate, and I suspect my self-diagnosed OCD really loves how a clean house feels. It envelopes you like a long-lost lover. If you can relate, then I hereby diagnose you with OCD too, and seeing as I have a non-medical background, I’m entirely qualified to do that.
- I did two fitness classes: Mixed Martial Arts and Pilates
- I made not one, but two broccoli cheddar Quiche. I’m still working on that recipe for all of you, and as soon as I taste this second one, I’ll let you know if the recipe is ready or not. In either case, I got a couple of dinners stashed away for the week, and that makes me happy.
- I meditated for a whole five minutes, and yes I used an iPhone App to guide me through it. Baby steps.
- I worked almost forty hours at my real job, which kind of blows when you consider it was only a four-day work week. This week is going to be really rough too, but I’ve got a Quiche to comfort me in the evenings…and the Hubby…and a freshly cleaned bed. Wink, wink.
- I made homemade Cauliflower Cheddar Soup and Rosemary Drop Biscuits.
- I watched two movies: The Perfect Host and Limitless. The first was strange, but good, and the second was good, but strange. I recommend the former only.
- I cleaned the staircase, which for some reason seems to be where dirt and grime collect. I’m going to go out on a limb and say perhaps because we travel up and done them multiple times a day. Whatever the reason, they are sparkly now, or in the words of Outkast “so fresh and so clean clean.”
- I made a crock pot of ground beef chili for the Hubby and some friends. It smelled good, but I can’t vouch for the actual flavor because after the meat went in, I stopped taste testing it. Some people think love is all about hearts, flowers, and freshly cleaned beds, but sometimes it’s about cooking food for others, even if you don’t get a bite for yourself. That’s real romance.
It’s safe to say the theme of last week and predominantly the past weekend was cooking and cleaning. I’m gearing up for a big week at the office and want to make sure all my ducks (at least the non-literal ones at home) are in a row. I should have been a boy scout with all my preparedness. What did you do this past week? Any major accomplishments? How about some minor ones?
Jess @ JessieBear What Will You Wear says
Oh man it sounds like you’ve been so productive. Also , that quiche.. why are you a genius with cooking with eggs? You always have the best stuff.
Meghan says
Quiches are easy, and I will post a recipe soon. I finally tried this second one last night and it’s way better, but I think I need to do one more just to ensure it’s 100%.

Your homemade bars and granola came out perfect! I have trouble finding the right balance of time to leave it in the oven for- sometimes it comes out a little charalcoaly haha:)
Meghan says
I don’t bake my granola long. Maybe twenty minutes at most because I still want parts that are soft and chewy. I also leave it in a big clump when I bake it, as opposed to spreading it all out, so that keeps it from burning too.

OMG your last bullet point is what this Friday’s pizza is ALL about! The seed for the idea (not the recipe, the pre-recipe ramblings) germinated reading your Strange But Good chicken thing. This week on the blog I’m really into vegan or carnivore meals, and beets.
I wish I had motivation to clean. Instead I have motivation to type up recipes.
Meghan says
I love that my Strange But Good linkup gave you the seed of an idea. That just made my day!
I can’t handle clutter and messiness surrounding me, so even if I want to write up recipes all day, I have to clean first. I can’t really relax or enjoy myself until it’s done. Is your spouse the same way?
Jessie says
Busy & productive lady. If I pay for your ticket here, will you come & bake me all those yummy quiches?? 🙂
Meghan says
Yes absolutely. A chance to go to Kuwait and bake all day…are you kidding me?! That would be awesome.
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Arepas!!! Those are the best. We have a place here called Area Mia that I am absessed with. She even makes breakfast arepas in the weekend!
Meghan says
Breakfast arepas…now I’m jealous, especially since I just discovered these little gems.
Fran@BCDC says
If I give you my address will you come here and give the place a once over?! Your OCD would make your head explode if you ever got here. I wonder if you can send me some of that OCD so I can whip this place into shape? Your quiche looks wonderful. I used to make them regularly. So give it a try again. Quick and easy and I like that in a recipe. Have a great day, Meghan!
Meghan says
I’m a big fan of quick and easy. I’m also a big fan of using ingredient staples, the things you actually have laying around in your pantry versus using something really exotic, which you have to go buy first.
I’d be happy to put my OCD to good use on your home, but you might hate me after, when you couldn’t find anything anymore. Or maybe you’d fall madly in love with my brand of cleanliness and OCD organization. When I say my house is a mess (and sometimes I do feel this way), my friends just laugh at me because my definition of messy is way different than theirs.
luv what you do says
Cheers to date night!
I should definitely be eating out at your house this week. I cooked up some comfort foods this weekend and we are almost out of leftovers. Luckily, I have girls night out plans for dinner tomorrow night.
I love those days for linking up ducks. I need them before the start of a busy week or I am off throughout the week. I hate cleaning, but it just needs to get done sometimes.
Meghan says
I love girls nights. Such fun.

I can never quite make snacks-for-the-week last more than a few days either, so I’m with your hubs on that one. Granola and bars just somehow magically disappear when you keep sneaking handfuls/bites over the course of the day… And what is this magical meditation app?? I need one. I keep trying each morning, and it just keeps not happening. There are too many lists to be made to sit still for a minute!
Meghan says
Which is exactly why you need to try to mediation. To quiet the crazy mind full of lists and ADD moments. The app is Mindful Mediation, and it’s free (which I know you’ll like), and you choose from a bunch of different timed meditations. It starts with five minutes and goes up to an hour. You gotta give it a whirl.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says
Oh dude, HERE it is! Ok, I’ve totally gotta make this soup next week! Pray that my discount cauliflower makes it through the weekend while I’m out of town! 😉
You are one productive little mama! I mean seriously, scrubbing the bed frame, vacuuming, and polishing up the stairs? Sheesh, I feel like I need to bust out the sponge and clean some baseboards or something! Just let me know when you’re coming by to help! I’ll put on the Outkast…because ya know, cleanin’ and booty shakin’ ALWAYS go hand in hand!
Meghan says
If you put on Outkast and maybe even some hair bands, I will help clean your baseboards and your walls because they need love (or really a good rag) too. I would also like some pancakes in return for my services. I think that’s a fair deal.
