WIAW: The Snow Day Edition

June 12, 2013 by Meghan 36 Comments

On Monday, I mentioned needing more hours in my days. I have a shitton (which is more than a crapton, but less than a holy fuckton) going on right now, personally and professionally, and while I wouldn’t change a thing, I sure would like an extra hour or two of time a day, even if it’s just to relax or catch up on sleep. Let me rephrase that, especially if it’s to relax and catch up sleep.

Then it hit me. There is a way to get more time in my days. All I have to do is skip a blog post or two.

Translation: I’m not doing a What I Ate Wednesday today. I’m taking a snow day instead. Yep, in the middle of spring because those are the very best kind of snow days.

Snow Day 2

If you really want to see my weekend eats and let’s face it, you probably do because they were spectacular (of course), then I recommend you head on over to Allie’s blog. I spent the weekend hanging with her, so I’d bet she’s showing the goods today.

In the meantime, I’ll see you on the flip side.

Do you ever take snow days from blogging? You should. It’s incredible freeing.

No. You absolutely cannot take a day off from blogging. Who do you think you are, the pope?! 😉 Lol. When I first saw the title I paused for a moment… Snow in Ohio? Man, I get fooled way too easily.

Enjoy your time off and I’ll be sure to check out Allie’s post to see all of the amazing things that you all ate on your get-together! 🙂

Snow, in June, in Ohio…I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s happened. Our weather can be pretty fickle.

Missed your eats, but glad you are taking time for YOU! One of the reasons I love your blog is because you preach balance.
Going over to Allie’s blog now.

Balance is key. For every bit of work time, you need some play time (or relax time or hide from the children time 😉 ).

I’ve been embracing blogging snow days more often lately and I won’t lie- I’m kinda loving them…it’s such a mental breather to breathe on my own accord rather than force something out for the sake of ticking it off my list! Hope you’re enjoying your day away from the computer, girlie!

It is a mental breather, and it’s always good to recharge the batteries every so often.

YES. I totally take days off when I need them. I used to post 3 days per week (MWF), but it was getting to be too much, so I cut it down to 2 days (TF) and it works so much better for me.

    Enjoy your time off!

I imagine it has to be extremely tough for you juggling work, school, food, fitness and blogging all by yourself no less. Two days or not, you are pretty impressive.

Aw yes, taking a snow day is the best. Enjoy it, girl! Also, have you seen Boondock Saints? That last sentence reminded me of that movie.

For sure! I used to blog 5 days a week, now I post 3 times. It’s just so much less stressful . . . and I didn’t want blogging to feel stressful. That’s not the point!

That’s exactly right. It’s so easy for us type A’s to get caught up in a “must get it done mode,” that we hardly realize we’re not even enjoying ourselves anymore. I like to take a breather every so often just to circumvent this. My sanity always thanks me.

Ok, I totally did not see this coming. Perhaps because I grew up where school was cancelled at the threat of snow (without any actual snow ever appearing on the ground) and at the threat of snow everyone runs to the grocery to stock up.

On bread, milk, eggs, and toilet paper. Apparently it’s pancakes and pooping time?

Anyway, I was expecting some “my fridge is so stocked from the CSA and the farmer’s market that I can outlast a blizzard!” type post. We may have a derecho (no power for a week with last June’s weather) so perhaps stocking up for that is a good idea.

    🙂

You forgot water and back up generators. We get all excited about the backup generators here. I already have one; it’s called a candle. 😉

Good for you, Meghan…I know you probably need a day off…we all do. I used to blog every day. When I went to Florida in February, I was having trouble with my travel computer and said I would blog sporadically until I got home to my regular computer. Nobody died. When I got home I was really sick and I didn’t blog every day…nobody died. Now I have a routine and I do Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Saturday. I get 3 days off…Not a single person has died and I feel good about the whole thing! Hang in there, Sweetie! Hope things smooth out a bit for you! Take care!

Thanks Fran. Life is going well (I’m relaxing in my three seasons room) as I type this so I’d say the time off has helped. And certainly nobody died.

You rock your summertime snow day! I hope you’re being all sorts of productive! Or at least relaxing with the cats and enjoying some free time. Luckily, blogs don’t go anywhere if you take a few days off–and sometimes, that’s just darn necessary.

I relaxed, went to bed early, and slept in, and it was wonderful. I woke up feeling refreshed and ready. Sometimes (most times) those are the best days.

Ah, you are a schedule blogger. Oh how I envy you. I’ve tried to do that and I may get an occasional post or two partially prewritten, but I usually end up doing most on the fly the night before and the morning of. I love the idea of scheduling them. Farm Fresh Feasts does it, and I’m enamored.

Thank you for explaining the distinction between a crapton and shitton. I’m currently experiencing the latter, so I completely understand the need for a snow day… although I think I’ll pass on the snow if it’s all the same to you. But yes… taking some time off is always wonderful. No need to stretch yourself thin.

These distinctions are necessary and important, especially when it involves a crapton. I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing a shitton right now, but based on your blog it sounds like there is some excitement building about this shitton. I can’t wait to find out.
