Last week the Hubby and I went to the Cleveland Clinic for a routine doctor’s appointment (all clear), and I was delighted to see they had puzzles in the waiting room. In my excitement, I snapped a picture.
Then I quickly sat down and got to work.
The Cleveland Clinic runs a tight ship though and much to my dismay, we were called away mere moments later. I had only just begun.
I could while away the hours, organizing the flowers, if I only had more time.
Would you do this to the puzzle too? You have to separate the edges and then group by color, right? It only makes sense.
Eating 4 Balance says
Good to hear that you got right in to the doctor. I normally have to wait when I go the Cleveland Clinic. One time my mom and I were the first to arrive and so they forgot about us for the next two hours despite going up and asking numerous times why people who just signed in were getting called back…? I go there for my GI doctor and that’s where I had my colonoscopy (ugh 🙁 ). Glad that everything was well!
I love doing puzzles when I can complete them in one go so I always go for the easy 100 count ones 🙂 Haha. Usually I just take a book with me to the hospital.
Meghan says
That’s a total bummer. The Clinic is always on time for us, and we go often enough. Maybe you need a different doctor or maybe you should call me and we can do lunch the next time you’re waiting. I’m a great lunch companion. Although lunch might not be the thing you want to do before a colonoscopy. Hmmm.
Eating 4 Balance says
Not to get to personal, but have you ever had one? Lol. Not something I plan on having to repeat anytime soon 🙂
Eating 4 Balance says
NO!! I thought I saved it before submitting.. But alas I did not. Now forever I will be “one of those” people who cannot tell the difference between to and too 🙁
Meghan says
Your secret is safe with me.
Meghan says
No, thank god. I can only imagine how horrible it must be.
Sarah Pie says
YAY for the all clear for Hubby!! As to your question, yes, that is the ONLY way to do a puzzle, don’t let anyone else try to tell you otherwise (they obviously don’t know what they’re doing). 🙂
Meghan says
YAY is right, and I love puzzles.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
I LOVE puzzles! It has been forever since I have done one, though. I ALWAYS do the edges first, but I don’t separate by color. The next time that I do one, I’ll have to take your advice! 😉
Meghan says
The color separation is key. I absolutely recommend it.
Khushboo says
Oh man I haven’t done a puzzle in so long but that feeling of fitting in the last piece feels like one of life’s biggest achievements 😉
Meghan says
That it is. That it is.
Fran@BCDC says
You are absolutely Right, Meghan…it’s the only way to get anywhere with putting a puzzle together. Cool. Good job on being brief!! I’m proud of you!
Meghan says
I know, I did it!! Ha, ha.
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
I’m not a big puzzle doer, but my sister is obsessed with them!
Meghan says
I like your sister.
Alex @ Brain, Body, Becuase says
Yes, that is my approach. No, I would not have attempted the puzzle.
Puzzles make me BANANAS, especially the hard ones. I end up cheating and smushing pieces together and ruining it for everyone.
You made decent progress for only having a few minutes! Maybe you can go back tomorrow to finish it? 🙂
Meghan says
Nooooo, I love puzzles. I could sit and do them for hours. In fact, I have. I wish I could go back and finish it, except I wouldn’t want anyone else to touch it because they wouldn’t do it the “right” way, and then we’d have to throw down, and it would get ugly. Sigh.
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
I adore puzzles. I’d do a lot more of them, but I always feel bad when I have to take them apart after I’m done… It’s like all that work gone to waste. And yes, that’s most definitely the only way to put a puzzle together. I always finish the edges first and then go about filling in the middle. No other way makes sense to me.
Meghan says
I take pictures of the finished product so I can always look back at them. I also have no problems taking it down because once they are done, my OCD kicks in and says clean it up!
You are right. Edges first and the rest will follow.
Olivia @ Liv Lives Life says
Ooh I hate puzzles. I love the idea of them, but after about 5 minutes I get frustrated and/or bored. Haha.
It’s good to hear about a positive, quick experience at a doctor’s office! Glad that was the case for you two.
Meghan says
I could sit and do puzzles for hours. Now I just need to find those hours.
Allie says
I love puzzles! Something about that satisfying things-in-their-place click as you fit two together. And yes, of course you have to sort the pieces first before you begin putting any together. Is there any other way? Just go in, smushing things together willy-nilly??! I think not.
Meghan says
I think not as well. There must be order.
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says
Umm, is there any other way? I thought that’s how everyone did puzzles! 🙂
Meghan says
It’s how they should be done!
Michelle @ Eat Move Balance says
I haven’t played with a jigsaw puzzle in ages, but I’d love to! Funny how that looks like so much fun. I bet it would be a great way for me to relax and focus my brain on something different than the usual “stuff”.
Meghan says
For me, puzzles are fun, challenging, and relaxing. It’s a great way to occupy your mind with something other than the mundane.
Liz says
How did I miss this post earlier this week?? Sounds like I need to update my subscription!! I love puzzles but have done done one in ages. Those tiny pieces would not last a day in my house. I need a puzzle room. With a lock on the door. 🙂
Meghan says
That’s a great idea. I think all adults should have a room like this.
Sara says
why do they not have toys for adults in ALL doctors offices? WHY
Meghan says
Right?! I totally agree. We need toys too.
