I feel rusty.
For real, I’ve only written one blog post in the last bazillion weeks. Obviously math is my strong suit, especially since they declared crapton an official number, roughly equivalent to 267.89 macro-ounce-bytes. Yes, I just made that up. You should take everything I say with a grain of salt and perhaps a dash of pepper. I am a food blogger after all.
I figure what better way to shake off the cobwebs and get back into the swing of things than with a little Currently action. For those of you new to my blog: Welcome, I hope I haven’t scared you yet. Please feel free to stick around, get a feel for the place, see if my vibe is flowing for you (♫ “sometimes I rhyme slow, sometimes I rhyme quick” ♫) and join in on the fun. Rough translation: once a month I talk about what’s Currently happening in my little world and if you’re so inclined, you can let me know in the comments section what’s currently happening in yours. I hope you’re so inclined.
And away we go.
Current Book: After two plus months, I finally finished A Dance with Dragons. I feel like that deserves a celebration of its own, but that’s not the point of this little game, although I think it should be; me celebrating with some jazz hands and maybe a little booty bounce. Yes, that should always be the point. Alas real life interferes, and my current book of choice is Stephen King’s latest and hopefully greatest Mr. Mercedes.
(source)
Current Music: I just discovered the joys of Pandora (thank you little brother for bringing me to the current century), and as a result I’ve been rocking out to Motown and the Golden Oldies. I can’t wait to create my next playlist and do some more booty bouncing. ♫ “Now it’s time to bounce that booty.” ♫
Current Guilty Pleasure: enjoying an extra long five-day weekend. Talk about luxurious, although to be honest, I don’t feel a shred of guilt. Nope, not one bit.
Current Nail Color: clear, no surprises here, although I did sport a pale pink for a week or so last month, and it inevitably starting chipping a day and a half later, which irked me to no end, so I went back to the basics: clear.
Current Drink: I’m dabbling in some H2O action with a slice of cucumber and a wedge of lime. Good stuff.
Current Food: Veggies, veggies, and more veggies. CSA season has come to Cleveland, and I am eating my greens and then some, and by that I mean greens, purples, reds, whites and pretty much all the colors of the rainbow. It’s magically delicious over here.
Current Favorite Show: I’m going to have to take a pass since I’ve haven’t really turned on the TV lately, which I figure is a good thing.
Current Wish List: I wish the very nice deer who moved in across the street would stay away from my flowers. Let’s call her Esmerelda, Esme for short. Well, she ate all my day lilies and the majority of my hostas, that dirty non-birdie.
We had a nice conversation, Esme and I, where I politely yet firmly asked her to stay out of my yard, while explaining the rest of the neighborhood is free game. I’m pretty sure she flipped me off before she walked away.
Current Needs: I’d love to win the lotto or find some extra hours in my week, but at the end of the day, I actually need for nothing. That my friends is the greatest thing.
Current Triumphs: Kicking my baby brother’s bucket in some tennis yesterday, and it’s possible there’s some revisionist history going on. To be fair, I did warn you to take everything I say with a grain of salt.
Current Bane of Existence: as much as I love my greens and believe you me I do, I currently have four heads of lettuce, a bundle of kale, a cluster of Swiss Chard, a boatload of Bok Choy and at least three kohlrabi in my crisper right now. No worries, I plan to go Pop-Eye on its ass.
Current Indulgence: Dragon Fruit because this pretty little pink pod cost an arm and a leg or approximately $8 and that’s after talking the seller down. It tastes like a ginormous kiwi.
Current Blessing: my baby brother and his wonderful lady love have been staying with us the past few days. It doesn’t hurt they brought me color coordinated gifts, which pleases my self-diagnosed OCD to no end. We also made it a point to do all the things, which involved a lot of eating and at least two big salads. Hmm, I wonder if I can sneak in a third before they leave.
Current Outfit: my pajamas, the more appropriate pair, because hello I still have company.
Current Excitement: kayaking my way around Cleveland or at least it’s waterways. It gives me an entirely new and legitimate reason to yell out “Stroke! Stroke! Stroke!”
Current Link: Look up… In the sky. It’s a bird, it’s a plane. No wait, it’s Quiche Love. Yep, at the top of my site, I added a link for my quiche creations and pretty soon I will share my latest and greatest recipe: The Greek. This baby is hotter than the World Cup right now. ♫ Ole, ole, ole, ole ♫ Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
Current Mood: I am content after spending a lovely and long weekend with my family. I’m also ready for a cocktail and a nap, specifically in that order.
Do you create itineraries when you have company in town? Have you read Stephen King’s latest book? Feel free to get in on this action and answer any of the Currently questions above. Current Blessing? Current Triumphs? Current Mood? Current Deviant Activity…just seeing if you were still paying attention.

mmmmk, I had no idea that clevland had water. what water is this?? Am I missing something?
Missed ya!
Meghan says
Yes you’re missing Lake Erie love and the Cuyahoga River. Many stories have been told about that river. 🙂
Missed ya too.

LOL…oh I guess I missed that big o’l lake. One might be surprised to know that I too grew up around the great lakes, but clearly never grasped the geographical bigger picture.
….#duh
Meghan says
Ha, it’s all good. Geography was never my strong suit either.

You’re a much better tour guide than I am. When people come visit me I’m usually the one asking them what they want to do 😆 So does that mean you’ll show me all around Cleveland when I come visit? And cook me up some of that amazing stuffed French toast that you teased me with the other day? Throw Oscar in the deal and I’ll be on the next flight 😉
Amanda @ .running with spoons. recently posted…. currently – july 2014 .
Meghan says
Yes a similar plan will be drafted with your interests in mind, along with some restaurant research to ensure you get a peanut free experience, since ER visits will NOT be on the plan.
You can pamper Oscar all you want, but he has to stay in Cleveland when you head back to Canada. He loves a good pampering though.

What’s new here? Summertime! Yay. Fresh veggies and fruits that didn’t sit on a truck for 5 days. YAYAYAY. Oh, and i quit my job last Friday. Scary but exhilarating and I finally get to get back to what’s important…writing, cooking, sewing, and yeah! Bring it on, summer!!

Holy cow that is a lot going on, but kudos to you for standing up for what’s important. That’s huge and while I can imagine how scary it must be, there must some comfort in knowing you’re doing the right thing for you.
Cheers to summer. I’m with you all the way on that one.

Wait! $8 for dragon fruit?? Is it suppose to be filled with HGH? Haha. I think your veggies give my veggies a run for their money.

Yep $8, which seemed pretty ridiculous to all of us but since none of us had ever tried one before, we decided to splurge and see what all the fuss was about.
“Maybe your veggies could get with my veggies and they could be veggies together.” Sorry, I threw in a little Biggie there. 😉

Meghan,
A woman after my own heart–though my nails are bare and 9 Ways to Reform a Rake was the last book I read and I canoe not kayak nor do I know who Pandora is besides the Greek one.
I was sharing with my in-law about all. the. greens. that we need to eat before Wednesday’s farm share pick up and she said ‘why do you do that?’ . . . well, I could have launched into a flavor discussion, a local economy discussion, an environmental awareness discussion, or a health discussion . . . but instead I kept chopping up swiss chard to sauté with onions, turnip and potato and add to the brats she was going to cook as sausage for her French toast. May as well eat a vegetable at least once during our 3 day visit.

Oh yes I am right there with you. I did manage to sneak the swiss chard on my houseguests and now I suppose the Hubby and I will hop on the salad city train, which means I’ll need to send him to the store to grab some good toppings. I think we’ve eaten through pretty much everything else, which is a good thing in my book.
Pandora is incredible. Ask Eric about it.

Tara @ Rovin' Rambler says
That’s the funny thing about local produce…dragon fruit here costs about $0.30 each, while strawberries are about $7/pint. My smoothie game has had to shift accordingly, and though I love all of my tropical fruit, summer just isn’t the same without some fresh berries.
My grandfather had a farm when I was growing up, and had the best strawberries ever. So I’m spoiled in both how delicious and how free they were.

I can just image the memories you must have of your grandfathers farm. What a wonderful thing to have.
I wish I could send you some strawberries in return for some dragon fruit. Supply and demand, right?

Pandora is the one app that sucks my data dry. Once in a while I get a message letting me know I am at 90% of data use…I am obsessed with Pandora haha. I am also obsessed with your veggies, and before today the last time I blogged was exactly one week ago. I suppose that’s what happens at times haahhha.

Really? I didn’t realize that about Pandora. I think so long as you are on Wifi it should be ok. I think…then again, I’m not so sure. Must do some more investigating. Hm.
I will share my veggies. Any chance you’d be interested in a salad or three? 🙂

Kicked his/her bucket… I’m stealing that expression. I also want to visit you more than ever now that I see the kind of listing that goes into planning for your guests… and also because you have so many salads to share 🙂
I’m glad you got in some quality time with your family and also super excited for your new quiche tab!
Meghan says
Thanks Sarah. It’s all about the tabs, the salads and the buckets isn’t it?! 😉
I had a wonderful weekend with my family. It’s always nice when they come to see me.

Okay since you make such an amazing tour guide, I am definitely going to making a trip to Cleveland..so long as you’re living there! Looks like such a fun weekend and glad you’ve got on some proper pyjamas for the sake of your guests ;)! Current mood is greasy…and that is in terms of my hair! I’m using it as motivation to go for a swim…anything goes ha!

Not only appropriate PJ’s, but I have to wear a bra too. Maybe I should have made that the bane of my existence.
Cleveland is a pretty awesome and pretty inexpensive city to visit so I like to show it off when people come to town. Plus, I get to plan things and make lists, which is awesome.

Ask Laura about the plans I made when she was here. It was CRAZY – I even planned recovery time from the plans! It was fun though, cause I organized travels for her to places I have never been before. Strange.
You have beautiful petite hands. I am jealous. My paws resemble a farmer. Including scars and all.

Good to have you back! I already missed you!
I am (again) totally the same regarding the itineraries 😉 Where’s the fun without a decent plan. Maybe that’s because people don’t come to visit often? I love to choose some restaurants according to my guest’s tastes. And then there’s some stuff you need to do/see. When we lived in London and my Dad came over for a visit he complained to be sore afterwards and compared his stay with the running of the bulls in Pamplona. I guess he was the bull and I was the torero 😉 Anyways I love having guests! I serve a holy lot of food and we have a VERY decent selection of booze. Nobody leaves us sober 😉

Ha Ha! You got the King Book. Our Instagram book club is ON.
I am one with the Kind, in good times and bad. He’s got a new one coming out in the fall, too.
And by the way – I only discovered Pandora about 2 years ago, at which time my brother sent me a cheeky little text that asked if I’d realized the planets go around this thing called the Sun.
I will never make fun of anyone late to the party. I will only say welcome, and tell them to stream Tycho when you are feeling like relaxing!

Is it creepy that I looked at your list in great detail and saw grilled cheese creation?
After speaking with you during the week, these 5 days was the necessary fuel for it! Also…is that mini cauliflower? Let me know if you need some bok choy recipes…simply braised in sesame oil, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and chilli = yum.
Meghan says
We should do a co-grilled cheese creation.
Those were little broccolis. The color was a bit funny but texturally they were solid and tasted great.
Good tip on the bok choy. I’ll check it out.

I figured that this would be a good post to try and catch up with you… Although seeing as how I’m not back to blogging yet, I’ll still be behind come fall. Currently blogging from a Whole Foods where I am thanking the heavens they have wifi. I have half a mind to text my Mr. Landlord guy and complain for the billionth time over my crappy inconsistent internet. Not cool sir. Not cool at all.
I just started back in again on Game of Thrones after a break so we’ll see how that goes. Slow and steady wins the race… Stephen King. I’ve never read any of his books before, but I have to read Salem’s Lot for a class this fall so that will be my first taste of his writing. The covers have me a little afraid for my sanity.
I’ve basically been reading a lot, and writing (although no blog stuff with no internet), and watching a TON of movies. Let me ponder a moment if there is anything worthwhile to share there.
Love the pictures as always, especially the water view where you are kayaking. Taking a dip in a lake/river/pond/pool…/creek sounds very welcoming right now. It’s hot hot hot and my skin may perhaps be slightly burned from sitting outside and reading said GoT book.
Actually, I better go because I have a few other blogs to say “hi” to before I hit the road and return back to my desolate apartment (I’m not sure I used the word desolate correctly here, but I am too lazy at this moment to check dictionary.com).
Hope you had a good weekend!

Your desolate usage was spot on Ms. Madison and I’m so glad to hear from you again. Maybe I should make a call to your landlord. Throw my weight (or non-weight) around. 🙂 I hope you are enjoying the internship and your summer. Maybe you should embrace the spotty wifi thing and just get out there and explore that city and even a few places with AC. 🙂
Keep in touch. I missed you.
