Let’s create a new hashtag for potatoes.
C’mon, it’ll be fun. I’ve got a few ideas to get us started.
#spudlovebitches #tellmeaboutitspud #potaytoelovah #spudtacular #myprecious #ohmygodbeckylookatherspud
Have you looked at Instagram lately? Everybody’s all #namastebitches this and #namastebitches that, while my poor sweet lonely potatoes are left out in the cold. It nearly breaks the cockles of my heart, and I want to change that, one baked french fry at a time.
Or maybe we should do it one meal at a time, WIAW style, and give potatoes their just desserts, ignoring the fact, dessert was the one meal where they didn’t make it to the party. For shame. I should probably start the day all over groundhog style and ensure I end it with a potato for dessert. ‘Eh, either way, I know I did Arman proud.
Let’s begin.
Breakfast was a bunch of leftover veggies, sautéed in olive oil. Think onions, bell peppers, carrots, swiss chard, and broccoli, oh my! which I then smothered in six beaten eggs and a bundle of chopped chives.
I ate a slice and a half of my veggiefied frittata and focused my efforts on the real star of the show: the roasted red skinned potatoes.
Lunch was my newest potato obsession: Kettle Cooked Cheddar Chips. I finished the last third of the bag, although there’s no truth to the rumor I poured the few remaining crumbs directly into my open and eagerly awaiting mouth. Alright fine, I did it. I regret nothing.
This next dish is not a potato, nor a meal. It is magically delicious though, and now I’m using children’s characters to justify my booze hound ways. Whatever, I smoked candy cigarettes growing up with the likes of Joe Camel, and I turned out perfectly fine. Hmm, surely there’s no correlation.
This next snack needs no introduction, although I was polite and shared with the Hubby and family.
My main course involved a salad, some roasted veggies, more cheese and crackers and my favorite, mashed potatoes with a pat of butter. When I die, I don’t want to be put on a wooden barge in the river and set a flame (they still do that, right?). Instead, I want to be laid to rest on a bed of mashed potatoes with a stick of butter in my cold dead hands. Dream big, my friends. Dream big.
Dessert was a piece of Apple Spiced Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. While it was ridiculously good (did I mention the cream cheese frosting?), it was no potato.
One final thought since I simply cannot end a post with less than 500 words: potatoes were once eaten to fight off scurvy 1, they provide more potassium than a banana, more vitamin C than a tomato.2 and they just straight up rock. Therefore, from this moment forward, I say embrace the spud inside all of you, hold it up high, and sing it from the rooftops. Then hashtag that shit. #spudlovebitches.
What’s your favorite way to prepare potatoes? Do you love them too? Wanna join my new Instagram movement to glorify the potato? C’mon it’ll be fun.

I love sweet potatoes. Baked, roasted, wedges, with peanut butter, with avocado, eaten plain and French fry form too even though I prefer onion rings to fries.

Oh yes, I agree onion rings are glorious, and I’m fascinated by your sweet potato avocado combo.

Answer fast- you’re on an island and can only choose bananas or potatoes- what do you pick??
I love potatoes and hate that they have been vilified thanks to this BS “low carb” movement! As much as I love sweet potatoes, regular white potatoes score pretty damn highly too in my books! I love roasting potatoes and then dipping ’em in ketchup & mustard…mmm!

I…I…I can’t… I can’t pick between potatoes and bananas. No, I won’t do it.
White potatoes are damn spudtacular all on their own.

I love potatoes! I could eat a huge pot of mashed potatoes with some gravy or a little bit of S&Pm and olive oil drizzled over it. I also like little red or white potatoes boiled with some olive oil, S&P, and dill. Yes, there should be a hashtag for potatoes!

Yes dill is a great addition. So is parsley and butter. Sometimes, I throw whole cloves of garlic in with my mashed potatoes for a little extra sass. #potaytoelovah #itsathing

#ohmygodbeckylookatherspud. My favorite.
Stop talking about you being dead. I can not handle it.
But I forgive you because you post so many delicious food pics AND that cheese platter – though I am skeptical, cause as a Swiss I have to be whenever I see a cheese platter outside of Switzerland aka cheese heavenandparadise. Kudos to you for sharing, I would shovel all in before anyone else can notice that there is cheese.

You want to tell me that you didn’t know that we are the land of cheese? I am shocked. Ok. We are the land of cheese. We are the cheese kings and queens. We earn our money with cheese and well, Switzerland IS cheese. I hardly ever eat cheese or chocolate outside of my country, cause well, we do it best. We are slow and expensive and stuck up, but we make amazing cheese and chocolate. Come here.

I will join that potato movement proudly and happily! (First i have to join instagram, but that can be taken care of) Cream cheese frosting is the best thing ever invented. Electricity, wireless technology– it all takes a back seat to cream cheese frosting. Also i wish i had that frittata in my kitchen about now. that looks amazing.

Yes to standing up against potato racism. I’d have reconsidered our similarity if you’d included sweet potatoes in this post – okay, okay … racist? But I simply can’t bear another post singing the praises of them and claiming their health benefits. I like to eat healthy food but I don’t eat food -just- for its health benefits. So even if there was any proof of sweet potatoes being far superior to white ones I’d go with taste and that’s where good old white potatoes win.
And oh my are your mashed potatoes perfection. Share your secret recipe! I pretend I was oblivious to death as of now but either way I wouldn’t want to live a life mashed potato-less, either. Or without cheese. That plate looks ridiculously good.

The secret is garlic (add cloves to the water while the potatoes cook), butter (yup!) and some sort of dairy. I actually mash the hell out of them before I add the aforementioned butter and dairy. My mother in law even uses a hand blender to whip them into shape.

I never really got the hype over sweet potatoes, probably because I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. When I eat them, I just nuke them and add Earth Balance or nothing at all. However, I love regular potatoes and don’t know why they don’t get more love! My favorite is just baked with Earth Balance or sliced into rounds and fried on the stove. Love me some spuds!

LOVE! It makes me sad to see sweet potatoes getting all the loving and white potatoes being left out in the cold because I’ve always gravitated towards the white variety. I think I love them as baked fries the most, especially when olive oil and rosemary are involved… but, really, they’re good any which way. And you’d love it over at my parents’ place because I think my mom must be the biggest potato lover there is. She’s always talking about how she had to satisfy a craving by eating an entire pot of mashed potatoes for dinner. Whatever works!
