When I mentioned my rather rebellious rut earlier this week, I didn’t mean I was actually going to stop writing.
Good heavens no. I fully intend to blog my way through this dry spell if only because I’m stubborn, in a way that makes Tarzan look tame. Was Tarzan stubborn? ‘Eh, you get the idea. What I meant to say was I’ll still be penning posts. They just won’t be food or fitness related, although I may bust out an old recipe or two. I’ve got some hidden gems from long ago. I’m holding out on new recipes though until they’re seasonal or until Google Trends gives me the green light. Yes, I take advice from the great Google in the sky. It’s kind of creepy.
Moving away from all things creepy, Thanksgiving is right around the corner here in the States and only a month or so old for my Canadian friends. Which is why I thought it might be fitting to get thankful and share those things which make me feel all warm and fuzzy, aside from the space heater in my bedroom and my love of lists. There’s also no truth to the rumor I wanted to beat out all the other thankful posts which I imagine will be in full effect some time next week. Yes, in addition to being stubborn, I’m also competitive. Me and Tarzan are besties.
Let’s Get Thankful
- I gotta give the Hubby a shout out here, not in a sappy, sentimental way though because it’s so not my style, minus this one post from long ago. Nope for me, it’s the little things. When he’s actually home, he makes my coffee, shovels the driveway and engages in on demand monkey loving. What’s not to like about that? Plus, this Sunday marks our 18th year of exclusivity. He asked me out over a Pralines and Cream ice cream cone. I’d be a fool to turn that down.
- I’m thankful for all of you, my lovely readers. Engaging with you guys is what makes blogging so much fun and keeps me coming back day in and day out, or really three times a week, but who’s counting? Aside from me, that is. I do numbers for a living, so this is to be expected.
- Microgreens. I’ve been getting these nutritional powerhouses in my CSA, and I adore them not only because they’re freakishly delicious, but really because they make me sound way fancier than I actually am. A three cheese omelet with fresh herbs is appealing. Top that bad boy with microgreens and you’ve just brought your A game.
- Speaking of, I’m grateful for big ol’ Saturday morning breakfasts which include eggs, potatoes, fruit, and bread. “Why yes, those are microgreens on top of my omelet. How clever of you to notice.”
- Beeswax. Hear me out. I use this stuff when I’m cleaning. It makes things shiny, sparkly and smell good. Every time I use it though, some of it inevitably works its way into my hardwood floors, making some very, shall we say, slippery patches. Watching the cats skid across them pretty much makes my day. I told you; it’s the little things.
- Since we’re on the topic of cats, I am adamantly and vehemently opposed to them being on my kitchen counters. Sadly, they disagree. Hence, the beeswaxing. It’s urban warfare over here.
- I’m thankful for rainbows and unicorns. Obviously.
- Double Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies. I am a fan of oats in baked goods. The Hubby is a fan of chocolate in anything, so these are the perfect pairing for us.
- This song, specifically. I sang it to one of my nearest and dearest years and years ago when they were in medically induced coma with an unknown outcome, so this happy little number carries some significant emotional weight for me.
On that extremely revealing note ♫, pun intended, ♫ it’s time to wrap this post up. Work beckons and so does a hot shower. My coworkers appreciate when I try to clean up for the office.
What are you thankful for in your life right now? What’s a song which carriers lots of emotional weight for you and why?

I’ve never tried microgreens but always want to and I agree they make any plate look super fancy! I should put them in with my eggs and sausage. Very thankful for coffee right about now, how original 🙂

I actually got my second batch of microgreens in my CSA this week, so I’d happily share with you. I think this newest batch includes beet greens too because there’s some pretty purple ones in there.
I’m always thankful for coffee too. In fact, I’m drinking a big old mug as I type.

Love this post! Can’t beat a bit of positivity on a gloomy Friday. That Saturday breakfast looks insanely delicious, I’ll be round tomorrow.
Today I’m thankful for my lecturer buying me much needed coffee and sitting down with me and discussing topics for my essay… Stress rate slightly decreased. And tomorrow I’ll be thankful for sleep 😉

But I will say, i’m thankful you’re not packing in the blog!

Hell no. It would take a lot more than a rut to get rid of me. 🙂

I mean, how can a girl say no to pralines and cream ice cream? That man must be a keeper ;). And a big yes to that Saturday morning breakfast! Usually those are more on the menu for me on Sunday, but I love me a big brunch. Snazzy looking microgreens you’ve got there as well ;).

You’re relationship mimics mine with my manly man – 17 years ago we became and item. It’s funny to think how long that is b/c when I was 18 being 35 seemed like a friggin’ lifetime away.
But, you know, here we are.
Anywho – I’m checking out your micro greens and realizing I can grow those, in claw containers, under grow lights RIGHT NOW.
And you just scratched my winter gardening itch, you tricky woman. Huzzah.
Have a great Thanksgiving!

Of course you have grow lights. You better get seeding or whatever it is people do to make microgreens. They’re fabulous by the way.

18 years?!!! Congrats buddy! Although we all know it was clearly the pralines and cream ice cream which sealed the deal. That breakfast spread may be the deciding factor to move to Cleveland. Oh and the people aren’t so bad there! 😉

Your hubby sure knows how to win a lady with an ice cream date. Throw in a batch of those cookies and it’s a real panty dropper.

It’s good to be thankful for things — not just around Thanksgiving, but everyday. Have I ever told you about the gratitude journal I started over a year ago? It felt silly and forced at first, but I’ve noticed a huge change in my ability to see the good in things and my overall happiness as well. Definitely a fan. Also a fan of hot chocolate, cozy evenings spent by the fire, amazing friends (even if they’re far away), and fuzzy pink socks… because my feet get cold easy 😛

I have done a gratitude journal before and whenever I start to get a little grump (it happens), I switch back into the practice of keeping one. It really makes you stop and appreciate what you do have.
I fully intend to spend tomorrow wrapped up by the fire and maybe even in a pair of pink socks. You should swing by.

Happy anniversary! 18 years…your relationship turns legal this weekend!
I am thankful for spending time with my family, fuzzy robes, cheese, American grocery stores, American-sized and equipped kitchens, delicious beer, seeing old friends, drinking delicious beer with old friends and moving on to a new place and exciting opportunities next week. Feeling pretty lucky these days.

I bet it feels amazing to be home and indulge in all those luxuries you missed when you were traveling.
I can’t wait to hear about your exciting opportunities…do tell.

Love love love this post, Meg…such a good reminder to be grateful for both the big things (little ones) & seemingly small things (microgreens)! Right now I am grateful for becoming a great relationship with my mom & sis, the fact that Liar Liar is on TV, my legs for allowing me to run and the delicious quesadilla I ate for breakfast. Just listing that out made me fill up with joy- I could keep going with so much other stuff I am grateful for :)!

Happy 18 years!
I’ve been thinking about being thankful lately too. With life being so short and unpredictable I’d much rather spend my time focusing on all the positive things in life than the negative!
I’m thankful for not having a job right now (never thought I’d say that lol) so that I can spend so much time with my grandma and family, for the mild weather we’re getting these next few days after the snow storms from last week, for brownies, and for my guy for being so damn wonderful.

It’s so much healthier to focus on the positive things too. Dwelling or focusing on the negative can really bring you down and have detrimental effects. I find when my focus gets grumpy or whiny, I like to list out the good stuff and get my head back on track.
Enjoy the weather. It’s beautiful here too (yes, I consider 50 degrees beautiful now!) so I plan to do some work in the yard.

Awww, 18 years and still cute & in love. That’s wonderful! Let’s see–the oldest kid is nearly 16½ , so we’ve been married nearly 18½ years, so we’ve known each other–wow, we met 19 yrs ago this month. I always have to think up the year, and if I didn’t have a kid’s age to go by (we celebrated our first 2nd anniversary w/ a 6 week old, so that centers it for me: Erik + 2 = years married) I would be constantly confused. Must figure out what the actual day we met (it was a Friday, that part I know) and do something next year.
Robert Barker is quite interested in being a critter on a counter, or a couch for that matter, so I probably need to investigate this beeswax business (and learn a desire to actually use it). I can handle the ‘chew everything’ part of him, and the ‘eat everything part of him–he’s doubled his initial intake weight and is up to 37 pounds!–but I don’t do counter or couch sitting.
Perhaps if the greens from my farm share were micro sized, I could toss them on more things. Since the pig died I’ve been
forcingencouraging the kids to rinse & spin lettuce a few times a week. It helps, but I will breathe a big sigh of relief when the farm share ends with the Tuesday-before-Thanksgiving home delivery. Then I’ll probably miss it after my birthday, so I think I’ll sign up for the last of their winter deliveries next month, but I need some space first (I could say ‘it’s not you, it’s me . . .’ but it’s just food).Kirsten recently posted…3 Cheese Fast-baked Cauliflower
