Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Before I get into the nitty gritty details, you should know this past week was just meh for me mentally. Perhaps it was coming down from the high of the week prior, maybe it was the return of winter, or better yet, the Hubby’s schedule. He worked all seven days last week for a total of 60 hours. Whatever the case may be, I simply wasn’t feeling it. That being said, I still managed to get things done because life doesn’t stop when you’re feeling less than frisky. On that note, we’re going to recap it, so I can get back to impressing myself.
Let’s get listing:
I showered six out of the seven days. I’m calling this a win.
I cleaned out another handful of kitchen cabinets and drawers. It turns out having loads of storage space can be a blessing and a curse. Anyone interested in some fine china? It’s never been used.
I took my 1995 Miata in for an E-check. It passed and then in an ironic twist of fate, it died on the way back home when the battery caught fire. That was exciting.
I unsubscribed to a flurry of spam emails. Where do all these crazy messages come from and how do they always manage to find me?
I finished Mudbound. It was such a great read, and I’d recommend it to anyone. Also, I started reading In One Person by John Irving.
I finished season two of Downton Abbey, a rather big upgrade from Hoarders, and I also watched a couple of episodes of The Wire with the Hubby the only evening he was home.
I made another batch of my Lentil Meatballs with great success. Even the tiny human is a fan. Then again, she’ll eat almost anything I put in front of her, carpet lint included.
I went to bed early a handful of nights since Ave has been waking up anywhere between 5:15 am and 6:15 am. Early mornings make for long days and require lots of caffeine.
I changed countless diapers and bathed the tiny human twice.
I went to the local library for a play date and visited grandma and grandpa’s house another day.
I had an eye exam where the dilated my pupils to the size of dinner plates rendering me blind for hours. They had coffee and cookies on the premises so I’m calling it even.
Ave and I had brunch out with the in-laws, and I managed to consume an entire Blood Orange Mimosa.
(This is bullshit. Mom won’t share her drink with me.)
We also hit up Whole Foods for a major shopping trip. My wallet is still cringing.
Speaking of finances, I paid bills and reconciled our bazillion bank accounts. Why do we have so many? Oh yeah because I like having separate and joint funds.
Since we’re on the topic, I went to the bank on three different occasions in attempts to deposit a single check. As of right now, the check remains at large. Oh vey.
Most importantly though, this happened when I went to get the tiny human from her nap.
(“Oh crap,” says mom.)
It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small?
Cora says
Oie! Well it may have been a meh feeling week on the inside, but damn it was BUSY. You did a lot my lady, and a lot of not-so-pleasant things too. Optometrist appointment… yuck… Miata downfalls… seriously? ….Banking….ugh. Oh and those damn spam emails?! Right!?? I now have three checks on my table that I’ve been “trying” to deposit for over two months now, so, I hear you. But hey… that blood orange mimosa looks extra, extra amazing now (and Ave obviously thinks so too, lol. I laughed at her face even before scrolling down to see your caption). I hope this week is a little bit more on the pleasant-gratifying side of things, and that the hubby doesn’t have to work so dang much.

Also I;m going to try and deposit that check again today. Wish me luck!!

Grandma Lala says
Well, looking forward to a less “meh” week emotionally, I am amazed how much you managed to plow right on through in spigot of said “meh”. A bad case of the ‘meh’s’ is enough to send me into a grinding halt, productivity wise. I get really stuck in my hoehum doldrums and sort of shut down. When the kids were little, I managed to ‘do our thing’s, acting out my part. But that was it, no cleaning, no errands, no extras. It was all I could do to not let my poor meh-ness rub off onto them!
I see my favorite roses are holding strong! I searched for the plant right away but it was a dissapping no go. They must be to difficult for the average back yard Gardner.
Always did shock and surprise me to walk into the nursery and dined my little quadrupedal upright and behaving every bit like a biped! It’s one step closer to your running your butt off, giving chase to a giggling Ave, who finds it delightfully funny to make you run after her just for her own amusement! Be sure and share that photo with us!
Meghan says
Yeah she’s definitely increasing my level of exercise, that’s for sure. She wants to walk all the time but hasn’t quite gotten the balance part down so I get to hunch over her while simultaneously holding her upright so she can move.
I think meh-ness when you have kids means nothing. You don’t get the luxury of checking out so to speak. Gotta keep right on keeping.

Oh I feel you on the sleep-deprived front. Charlie was sick off and on last week until I caved and finally took him to the dr to find out he had…pneumonia. Good job mom. I also hate it when Jody has to work more. I RELY on those breaks from parenting plus he chills me out. You’ll have to let me know how the Irving book is…love him.

I’m about a hundred pages in and I’m liking the Irving book. I’m a big fan of his although I did NOT like the last one I read so I was bit cautious with this one.
I hope Charlie is feeling better. We all have mom fails. I drove Ave home one time in her car seat, but totally unbuckled. I just forgot. Sh!t happens.

A car battery fire definitely qualifies as exciting! I think a lot people have had a meh week. In my case, I know I just need sunshine and warmth. I did, however, actually cook a lot this weekend, so I call that a win. Those lentil meatballs look amazing! I wonder if I can trick my kids and husband into eating them…

I’d be curious to see what the kiddos and Hubby think of the lentil meatballs. I should have the post up this week (cross those fingers for me). Also anytime cooking gets done, it’s a win. Go you.

See, only in the USA do they have cookies at a medical office. All we ingest in ours are communicable diseases. What kind of fine china do you have? I’m curious. I registered for some when Jason and I got married. It was Royal Doulton Memory Lane. I’m not sure of the spelling. Never used that stuff either. I’m not sure I even looked at it.

The car is ok. I picked it up last week although I’m going to be sad to see it go. I’m passing it on to someone else in the family since convertibles and babies don’t mix. Dammit.
He swapped weekends with someone or else it would have been a more reasonable 40 something hours. He doesn’t work another weekend until April now so it was totally worth it.

A Man Called Ove was pretty fantastic and the movie just came out – but read the book first if you haven’t already. It is a sarcastic dark little thing that I loved.
Also, having a battery ignite whilst driving = scary. Yikes, lady.

Separate but joint finances is actually fantastic. You have the same % of income go into the joint account for household finances, and then you get to do whatever you want with the rest of your money. It eliminates fights about money.

Can I just say taht I love reading your Week In Reviews? I need to get on the WIR bandwagon – they would hopefully make me feel pretty productive. I especially love your baby updates. She likes lentil meatballs?! Do you break them up into little pieces for her? I’m so paranoid my 8 month old is going ot choke but i need to get him off purees!
Meghan says
Yes, you absolutely should join the WIR party. The more the merrier and this way I’ll get to see your little one.
Ave and I did a mixture of spoon feeding and Baby Led Weaning with heavy emphasis on the latter. Basically you cut up mushable foods into finger size bites so they can pick it up and feed themselves. It’s great although very messy. I can eat while she eats though which is huge. We started with avocado and worked our way up to black beans (smashed just a bit), scrambled eggs, steamed veggies like potatoes, carrots, rice, etc. Ave prefers to feed herself now, and it’s great practice for hand eye coordination. The first few times she got very little food in, but it was amazing how quickly she picked it up. You should try it. If you have any questions, just let me know.
Meghan recently posted…Week in Review: The Good, The Bad and Oscar Has The Runs (#74)

I guess my main question is – if they’re finger sized foods, are you scared she’s going to choke, or were you scared? I’m so paranoid! I’ve even cut peas in half 🙂
Melissa recently posted…Training Tuesday: A pretty average week
Meghan says
You want finger sized because they can pick them up but also because they’re too big to choke on. And yes I was definitely nervous about choking and there was some gagging a couple of times. The rule of thumb is if they’re making noise it’s ok. It’s when they’re quiet, then they are choking.

decluttering is like an endless noodle that just keeps going as you keep slurping and chewing.. waiting for the end. ok that was a weird metaphor. sorry mom brain. i always blame mom brain.
so yeah, we’re going through the teething right now and it’s just glorious. well, last night was good but a few nights were pretty interesting to say the least.
my highlight of the week: my husband created a pretty decent office space for me in the kitchen, as opposed to the tiny nook that was crammed in the corner that i hated with all my soul. oh yeah, i feel so blessed. i’ll take a pic and share. it’s not fancy but it’s glorious to me.
i can’t wait to book my flight. the little monkey and i are gonna do it. early april, so like first or second week of april. it’s either that or early may LOL but seriously i’m ready. the only thing is my husband’s trip to asia which is end of april. i’d like to see you before he goes away 🙂

Oh dang. That really doesn’t sound like the most uplifting kind of week. Plus, coming down from a high likes relatives visiting and bad weather are the two most influential reasons for my often sad-ish tone in Monday posts. I hope the hubby’s work schedule will lighten up again because geez, that man has a wife and daughter who want to spend time with him, too, employer! Not like I didn’t somehow know from experience. ..
The car battery catching fire while driving is one of my biggest car fears come true and you might have heightened my anxiety now. I’m so glad you’re okay!
