Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
In case my title wasn’t enough of a clue, last week I had the plague, also known as the flu…dun, dun, dun. Which really irks me since I got a shot this year. In fact, the Hubby administered it, and I think he got a little too happy about stabbing a needle into my left shoulder. It might be time to have a conversation with his mother.
In any event, I was on death’s door last Wednesday, and yes I’m being dramatic, although I did lose just shy of six pounds in two days. It’s all good though because I’ve gained it back in water and chocolate covered Oreos.
Instead of lamenting the lesser points of being ill or sharing the gory details (believe me, it wasn’t pretty), I’m going to focus on the positives that came with being ♫ down with the sickness♫. Mainly because I’m better now or else I wouldn’t be waxing poetic, also known as Disturbed lyrics.
Let’s get listing:
I slept; like a lot, a lot. It’s been just over a year since that’s happened for some odd reason (cough, Ave, cough).
Speaking of the tiny human, we worked on our codependency issues, mainly because I couldn’t really watch her. As such, she spent a holy crapton of time with the Hubby and at grandma and grandpa’s house. I only saw her for the briefest of periods on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
(In healthier times.)
You must be wondering what I did with all that alone time, aside from sleeping, that is.
Basically, I put a significant dent in my DVR shows and watched more episodes of Intervention than would seem possible.
I curled up and cuddled with the cats; alone time really is a relative term.
I sat and soaked up the silence.
I unplugged, barely touching my computer since I couldn’t be on it and horizontal at the same time.
I started and finished this book. It was fabulous, as was the Coffee Crisp candy bar Suzy sent with it.
This last one isn’t flu related, but worth mention nonetheless. The Hubby and I celebrated 12 years of marriage yesterday.
On that note, it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small?
Jamie says
I have a theory: we get sick just when we let down our guard…spring tricks our immune system into complacency. ALL the kids were sick last week too and it’s been rainy and cold which hasn’t helped. Glad you’re on the upswing. I just picked up Fire by Night from the library (it’s been in my queue forever and finally became available). Did you really like it? I’ve heard it’s slow at points, but I need 2nd opinions before I start.

I didn’t actually find it slow at all. Granted, I was feverish and delirious at times, but I really enjoyed it. I say go for it, and then let me know what you think so I can give you good recommendations in the future.

Oh NO!! Ugh to the max. As awful as I’m sure this was, these are some pretty darn good silver linings. The catch up on sleep being at the top. Books, lack of computers, tv binging and coffee crisps all being pretty good seconds. But I do hope you are feeling back/almost back to normal now!! Congrats to the hubby for holding the fort down. And congrats on the anniversary!

Whew, that was more sleep at a very uncomfortable price, huh? Sorry you got hit by the flu. I’m very pleased to hear about all the relaxation this brought you, though. The felines probably liked having you mostly to themselves for the week, too.
Congrats on your anniversary! Twelve years – wow! Seems like the hubby’s needle-stabbing isn’t that bad after all ;).

I’m glad you’re on the mend, and glad you’ve got a fabulous support system so that when you went down the whole house of cards didn’t fall on top of yo’ head.

oh shoot!!! i’m so sorry mama, that totally sucks. that’s crazy, i had that horrendous stomach bug right before i came to see you. i did go to the doctor and was diagnosed as stressed and had no actual virus… otherwise i would feel awful if i gifted you a nightmare bug 🙁
anyhow, i’m so sorry, glad you and Ave got to spend some time apart and your Tiny Tot got better acquainted and comfy with other humans. that time to yourself is sometimes all the medicine you need! that’s probably why my sicknesses were so miserable during the times when nobody could give me that relief. now i’m so UBER freaking grateful i have a backup person to have for relief whenever life throws a crazy curve-ball. family is anyone that i trust enough to leave my precious gem with 🙂
missing you all and happy anniversary my sweet deary!!!! my hubby got fly in a hello kitty plane and i couldn’t be more envious but also more excited for him to unwind and enjoy the trip. meanwhile i’m enjoying the heck outta my sis. and possibly unplugging from technology. oh is that possible??? haha love you!!!! give miss Twinkle Toes a hug for Lulu and me.
Meghan says
I’m so glad you’re getting this time with your sister, who looks so much like you by the way. Two beautiful women.
The stomach bug definitely wasn’t you. I got it like a week after you were here and it would have hit me sooner. No worries and I’m so glad we’re both feeling OK now and both babies managed to escape it. That’s huge.

Oh shit! I didn’t know you had the flu last week! And having your husband as a pharmacist means you’re not abusing the word “flu”… that you really did have the flu. That is NOT GOOD. I am so sorry. 🙁 I guess it’s a good way to force Ave to hang with people other than mama though. You’re going to have a MUCH better week this week.

This was the first time I’ve had the flu in years and it kicked my ass. I couldn’t keep down water that first day. Ugh.
That being said, I’m feeling 98% better now and ready to tackle this week. The Hubby is off today too so that helps.

12 years is amazing! Congratulations <3 We are hitting 4 years in a month and that feels like an eternity already.
I must have scared a new guy at Crossfit last week. He looked so much like your hubby I couldn't stop staring at him. I had to make sure it really wasn't him ;-P

Oh booo that sucks you got sick at the end of the flu season! But on the plus side, I kind of like how being sick forces me to relax and neglect my responsibilities. I feel like we all need that once in a while!
And chocolate covered Oreos? You guys get all the craziest variations on foods down in the US! Pretty sure my choice of Oreos is limited to regular or double stuffed. 😛 That’s ok though because I’m more of a maple cookie girl anyways.
Hope you felt better for your anniversary. Congrats on 12 years!!

The relaxing and neglecting my responsibilities was lovely. Now if only I could find a better way to get that time than having the flu. Ha.
I’m a maple cookie girl too. You can’t be that Canadian syrup. Also did I tell you when I’m in Canada again this summer? We have to hook up if possible.

Happy 12th!!! And happy no more flu. That blows! Tell the hubby that I will now never, ever bother with a flu shot again. (I only did it once because I had to when my dad has a stem cell transplant.)

Big hugs to you again Meg, being sick sucks! But I am so glad you are feeling better. I really do think that to sleep cures everything so I am glad you were able to get some rest in and some quality TV time. I have made quite a dent in Gilmore Girls over the past few weeks… First time watching it, always thought I didn’t like it… But here we are and I’m hooked!
Hope this week is going better 🙂

Aww sorry to hear that you got hit with the plague, lady 🙁 But at least you managed to get a lot of extra sleep out of it… even though sick sleep isn’t exactly the best kind of sleep. But I hope you’re feeling better now! I constantly feel like I’m about to come down with something, but I’m pretty sure it’s just those pesky spring allergies. Apparently stuff is still blooming, even though it looks like it’s winter outside. Muah!
