It’s rare these days for me to get out at night, so when Mouthwater Media reached out to me and asked me to try The Burnham’s new fall menu in exchange for penning a post about it, I leapt at the opportunity.
And by leapt, I mean I did my homework and made sure this restaurant, in the heart of downtown, was the kind of place I’d want to promulgate. Word on the street is I can be a snippet picky, at least that’s what the Hubby says; insert eye roll here.
After a little research, I discovered the menu is Cleveland inspired (hello pierogis), and they work with local products and purveyors in order to provide the best culinary experience. A quick perusal of the appetizers and entrees promised bold flavors, lots of healthy eats and even some unique vegetarian options. Be still my non-carnivorous heart (ignoring of course bacon, because bacon).
(Ohio City Shitake Mushroom and Potato Pierogis)
Spoiler alert, I said yes.
I arranged a babysitter for the tiny human, invited a girlfriend and put on my red elastic waistband pants (for real, my pants were held together by a rubber band).
My first choice of the evening was a cocktail; obviously. I chose the Pink Lady, which was all kinds of whimsical and flirty. Confession: I would have ordered several more if I didn’t have to drive home.
(Goat Cheese Panna Cotta with Roasted Winter Baby Vegetable Chips)
After that, I splurged on the goat cheese panna cotta with house made veggie chips and the shittake mushroom and potato pierogis. No surprise here, the goat cheese was everything; light, creamy and incredibly fresh. The pierogis, from Ohio City, were rich, buttery and a bowl of comfort. They were also paired with a plethora of seasonal produce which made me and my dining companion happy. We love veggies.
For dinner, we chose the Margarita Pizza and the Cauliflower Steak because balance. We shoveled fistfuls of each into our eagerly awaiting esophagi. The pizza was on point with ooey-gooey good cheese, and I was blown away by the thickness of the cauliflower steak. It would have put a filet to shame.
(Cauliflower Steak with Veggies and Chimichurri)
Despite being stuffed, I dabbled in a couple of the desserts because my sweet tooth overrides being uncomfortably full. Even though I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin, I tried the tart mainly because it looked fancy, and I rather enjoy eating with my eyes. It was tasty, although my favorite part was the whipped cream and edible decorations. Why can’t all leaves be made of chocolate?
Not to be outdone, I also dipped my (chocolate) spoon into the crème brûlée. While it wasn’t as sumptuous as my father’s version (that man can wield a torch), the Breton cookie and sautéed cherries were a nice touch.
The service was on point, our waitress made excellent recommendations, and the head chef even came out to say hello. The ambience was quite lovely as well, boasting ultra high ceilings and ginormous windows. It was dinner with a view. I can’t wait to go back if only so I can try the BBQ white bean hummus, the 63 degree egg salad, and the sweet potato cheesecake, not necessarily in that order. I might start with dessert first next time.
Thank you for supporting me and my blog and allowing me to have a lovely evening out. It is much appreciated.

“Why can’t all leaves be made of chocolate?” I ask myself that daily. Probably a good thing they’re not though. You’d see me munching sidewalk leaves on my way to class, and that might be a tad unsanitary. What a meal though. Glad you and your hubby got to enjoy a evening together.

Meg. I love you, but there is no realm in which a cauliflower will compare to a filet. That said, pass the panna cotta. that that chocolate leaf. MWAH!

Oh! Lucky-Ducky! I’m not jealous, just happy for you. Read into that whatever….
You know how I feel about cheese! But I am not sure about slippery cheese? However! It IS cheese so I am open to trying Goat Cheese Panna Cotta, if by chance the opportunity ever comes my way! Or any Panna Cotta since I have never! I’m not fancy but want to be.
I’d take that Calli-steak over a beef one any day also, and have! As the rest of my family laughs at me and my husband lovingly caresses his wallet!
I’m with you on the bacon, it fits nicely into my vegetarian life, now and then. And as for those desserts..While I am not fancy, and sometimes long to be, I always go uncomplicated when desserts are presented. Because when I think back to even the fanciest places I’ve eaten, and there have some over the years, it seems like those desserts with the most effort put into their elaborate faces have had the least effort put into their insides. I am always disappointed. A simple Pot de Crème when available is always going to best the fanciest offering for me! I always ask for a little whipped cream on the side! Or a slice of pie “à la mode. I’m afraid when I see a covering of edible beads and decorations. But, that’s probably a sign of my age and limited palette, or my grams taking over my body!

The perogies look delicious and you totally tutored me about those! How sweet to have such an invitation and several vegetarian options to choose from! And a good friend to share the experience with. I would definitely give The Burnham a try if we lived near!

What a meal. And they couldn’t have made a better choice for their professional taste tester.
Those pierogies. Gah. They are first on the list for things Dan And I will stock our freezer with. Now if I could just get some chocolate leaves and cherries to wash them down.
….YOU chose pumpkin!?! Sure you only had one “pink lady??”
