Since I haven’t written one in months, it’s high time to slip another Currently post into the mix. Instead of rambling on, as is my usual custom, I’m getting right to the point today. You’re welcome.
Current Book: I’m reading The Assassin’s Quest which is the third book in The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. This is the series that has kept me up more nights than is healthy. I’m obsessed, and my goal is to lap the Hubby who’s only a few chapters ahead of me now.
Current Food: egg salad sandwiches with pimento olives because I like it salty. Take that anyway you want.
Current Obsession: eggs. If it’s not sandwiches, we’re eating them scrambled, fried and in bowls. We are all about the eggs right now.
Current Drink: I start every day with half a lemon juiced and added to warm water, and Ave has taken to joining me. She drinks hers out of an espresso mug.
Current Confession: the end of December and the beginning of January were tough with the tiny dictator. The constant cold, coupled with staying indoors, was making me a little stir crazy and a lot unhappy. Suddenly, I found myself counting down the minutes instead of enjoying them.
Current Blessing: without a doubt my in-laws, who happily and willingly starting watching Ave a second day of the week, so I could get my mommy mojo back.
Current Advice: ask for help when you need it. Soldiering on only makes you miserable, which in turn impacts everyone around you.
Current Triumphs: I signed up for my first yoga class in over a year. I’m all about getting my groove back.
Current Excitement: Passport to Cleveland. I am super pumped for this event, partially because it’s being hosted by one of my favorites, CLEseats, but also because it’s going to be fraught with food and booze, more of my favorites. You should come.
Current Bane of Existence: exhaustion. While it’s a common state of parenting, I was up later than usual last night celebrating the Hubby’s birthday. Hashtag worth it.
Current Needs: I need to lose 30 pounds, although I’d happily settle for 20. Suffice to say, not only have I clung to my baby weight, but I’ve put on a few pounds as well. I’m ready to slowly start shedding it.
Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: ice cream in the middle of winter. Despite being a bit heavier than my health would like, I have no intentions of giving up sweets.
Current Mood: ambitious, motivated, although that could be the sugar high talking.
Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession?

I love that you have such a close and willing support system! #lovetheinlaws! Mine were too far away and too distant (relationship wise). I did sometimes pile the kids in the car and make the 8 hr drive but that alone was sometimes not worth the carsickness, spit-up, and up the back blowouts sans dad to help out. Stay-at-home moming is a gift that pushes us to our very bleakest brink sometimes!
We love eggs! Firstly, they fit our retirement budget extremely well, even the ‘good’ organic ones! They are endless ways to have them in a jiffy, including egg salad with pimento olives! I learned that trick from a friends who mom lived in Pennsylvania years ago, and have to folks around here (and my sibs in MI) think it’s odd! So tasty that way!
The gelato looks devine and I sure wish I could try it. Ice cream and all of its friends are a no go. Thank goodness cheese is still my friend if I don’t make a fool of myself with like, every day! Would if could tho!
Do yourself a favor and please, don’t do a diet. I think they are the beginning of the yo-yo cycles for most people who ever try them. There has to be a better way to drop a few baby pounds that doesn’t mess with your body systems forever after…..
Meghan says
No worries, there will be no dieting for me. I gave up that nonsense a decade ago. I’m just going to try to love myself, move my body a little bit more and sneak in some extra greens, alongside the ice cream and cake. 🙂

ohhhh cleveland festival sounds so fun, i would LOVE to bring miss lulu bell and visit!!! wishing upon a star right now 🙂
my confession is that i never want to be left alone for some reason, which is ridiculous and absurd because i was miss independent for 34 years!! however motherhood has made me want company all of the time and even though my child is company, it’s like i want more. i know if i were staying at home and not working, we would be in the hole because i’d be signing up for every damn class available and doing everything and always out and about, and basically we would have to live in our cars!
my current pleasures are reading books again. i finished a book finally, and have been able to read side by side in bed next to my little one. she doesnt’ mind anymore and now she reads while i read. that, to me, is true success and contentment.
cheers to a glorious month, bring me all the sweets all the time!!
Meghan says
Reading side by side with the little one; now that is true success. I am impressed and envious. I can read alongside her only if the TV is captivating her attention. Other wise she wants me all to herself.
Yes to adult company. I crave it, and I’m an introvert. Spending all my minutes with the kiddo makes me need my tribe so much more, and when I get breaks I can come back better and stronger.
You and Lulu (and even the Hubs) are welcome here anytime.

Is that the yoga place we went to?? I’m slowly getting back into yoga myself. That gelato sure looks good, I prefer cold foods of all kind, but in the winter especially.

It is the yoga place, and it was wonderful to go back. It’s been way too long and I need to change that.

I am really proud of you for reaching out and getting an extra babysitting day from your in-laws. You’re a better woman than I am – I’d have resorted to daycare by now. My psyche is fragile. LOL!
Meghan says
Thanks lovely and thanks for listening to me work through it all. It always helps to have an ear and a shoulder. Yours is just particularly comforting.

Oh man that selfie of you and Ave with your lemon water mugs? That’s way too special. Your in laws are saints. It’s so awesome that they’re able to help out to give you your much needed ‘you’ time. Yay for this and yay for them.

I think we all struggle with a winter a bit. I’m so grateful for my in-laws.

I’ve ordered those books! I’ll let you know when I get them, and I’ll constantly be asking you for spoilers because I can’t wait 😛 Also… Pat needs to get on the ball and finish up that third book already. Like, how many times do I have to read the first two before he decides to finish up the third? I thought it was supposed to come out in January of 2017, but clearly that’s come and gone. Also… ice cream and cold things in winter are my forte. My body is broken when it comes to seasonal eating.

I can’t wait until you starting reading the books either. I’m excited to share them with someone who’d appreciate them.
My body is just broken, but I think that’s more because of constant exhaustion than anything else.

Salty foods are the best foods. I mean, I will never turn down a brownie, but if I’m really craving something 99% of the time it’s a salty food.
On the fiction side I’ve recently read Provenance and The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse. And you’ve reminded me that I need to go to the library this weekend, because I’m kinda out of books.
Meghan says
Out of books, now that is a real travesty. Get ye to the library.

Alright, I have yet to figure out how to check out an e-book from the library, but I’m working on it! P.S. I hear you about counting down the minutes in the day and the guilt that brings. As you know, Jody has the flu and I am single-momming it and it sucks and I am sucky at it.

It’s tough. We’re supposed to enjoy every minute of it, but those minutes can be monotonous and exhausting when you are the sole source of entertainment. It’s why we go so many places.
Get your Kindle hooked up to the library (you may have to take it into the library). It’s a game changer.

Egg salad with pimento olives sounds delicious and I’ll definitely be trying that combo! Pretty much, I love egg anything.
I love the quote about not counting the days. It’s a good reminder for me since it’s all too easy to start counting down the days till the next break or milestone and not enjoying or making the most of every day.
And that sea salt caramel gelato–the BEST.

That quote really spoke to me too since I felt like I was doing exactly that. Gelato always helps though.

Sorry to hear about the toddler troubles. But yay for getting back into yoga!
I am currently reading The Leavers by Lisa Ko though I may have to check out that highly recommended series of yours.

It felt fabulous to go to yoga again. I’m already trying to see when I can swing another class.

We made some homemade Mayo… I think some egg salad has to be made… And I love the addition of pimento olives, dang you just know where the flavours are at!
