Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing.
Last week was another humdinger. Confession: I just wanted to say humdinger and now I’ve done it twice. I feel naughty, and it’s so good.
We kicked off last week in Portland with a trip to the local zoo. The elephants were the big highlight unless you count me choking down Ave’s disgusting hot dog. When you’re hungry, you’re hungry.
We also took a family trip to Build-A-Bear where Ave created her own friendly and furry creature. It makes my liberal heart happy to see her selecting a rainbow bear, which she outfitted with combat boots and a football. The kid has got style.
Thanks to my father-in-law, the Hubby and I remember to celebrate our thirteenth anniversary with dinner at Por Que No?. The food was out of this world, and I wish they had a location in Cleveland; I’d be there weekly.
We took the red eye home on Tuesday night, arriving in Cleveland at 4:30 on Wednesday morning. With only fours hours of sleep, the Hubby and I spent the better part of the day walking around like zombies and counting down the minutes until Ave’s bedtime.
Shockingly, we also managed to clean out and restock the fridge in our dilapidated state. It might not look like much, but those crisper drawers are bursting with green goodness, and it appears I have a minor (cough, major, cough) obsession with cheese.
In true adulting fashion, I hit up the title agency and the license bureau to get some car stuff sorted out. I also did all the laundry and even spent a handful of hours working in the yard, with the scratches to prove it. Will I ever learn to wear long sleeves when doing yard work? The short answer is no.
I scrounged up and donated several bags of baby toys and nursing apparatus to the immigration and refugee center, where they will go to people who can truly use them.
Additionally, I attended another foodie event, this time at Yard House in Crocker Park. The highlight of the meal was fried Wisconsin cheese curds, although I adored the whole cloves of garlic scattered across this margarita pizza. Garlic, and by extension pesto, makes everything better.
Last but not least, I hosted my bestie and her daughter for a play date. They brought donuts. Therefore, I invited them back tomorrow.
Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What is something you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.

I am tired just reading your list! Running after a toddler on 4 hours of airplane sleep??? Wow! The pizza looks yummy! I have some sourdough starter that I have nursed along for about 10 years. I think I am going to use some this week to make pizza. I have a recipe for honey siracha chicken pizza that uses manchego cheese and jalapenos….mmmmm. Calling my name!

Your pizza sounds amazing. Have a slice (or three) for me.

The Curious Frugal says
I’m curious how Ave did with the red eye flight. We haven’t attempted that yet with Squish. She’s gets so excited about new surroundings that I could see her refusing to give in to sleep at all. Last week we had a family pizza date and it was the best pizza I’ve had in the city. Also lots of checking out new local playgrounds since the weather was great, and a failed attempt at story time at the library 🙂
Meghan says
Ave has been the same way her whole life. New surroundings revitalize her, so we’re left with an overtired and cranky child. HOWEVER, she did not nap at all the day we took the red eye (not by our choice) and we also told her throughout the day, we were going to be sleeping on a plane, so we prepared her for it. That being said, I wasn’t sure if it’d work until it actually did. The downside was even though Ave slept, we didn’t so the next day was really rough for us.

Technically we hit the town (or really one restaurant) with the entire family in tow so it was less than ideal, but hey we got out. I’ll take it.

Still, the first thing I do when I go to my parents is raid the fridge. Specifically, the cheese drawer. My mom always stocks up real good on the good stuff – something I never see in my own fridge. BUT… you put her cheese drawer to utter shame. You are the queen, and you should be very proud of it.
It sounds like your trip to Portland was a great one – so glad. Coming home to a foodie event would have made it a bit easier I’m sure. And yay for working outside! Dirt scratches means spring!

And as such, I’m grateful for each and every one of those yard work scratches. Hooray Spring!!
You’re welcome to raid my cheese drawer anytime.

Haha garlic DOES make everything better! I just had that conversation with a friend yesterday about how you can honestly make any dish so much more flavorful by just throwing in a clove of garlic while cooking. Yumm, especially when you’re single 😉
Happy anniversary!!

I’m impressed you can make your fridge look that good after 4 hours of sleep. Mine doesn’t look that way…ever?
I also can never remember to wear long sleeves for yardwork. Until after I’m already sunburned. Then I figure it’s too late for more sunscreen, better go for full skin coverage.
Meghan says
If it helps, it only looked that clean for an hour or so. Then we spilled milk. 🙁

That is one creative kid you’ve got there. Belated happy anniversary to you and your hubby!
I know I’ve said this before but I completely admire your fridge cleaning abilities. I really need to get on that.
Happy Monday!

Impressive list of goings on with so little sleep! No wonder you fell prey to to all the cheese! It takes my everything not to spend our entire grocery budget on the creamy, the salty, the hard, the the melty the smoky and the funky! Then feel obligated to waste not one bit of the deliciousness, lol! Poor husband, because I am lacking intolerant and so…you know!
We too have forgotten a few anniversaries over the years! Typically we are jarred into memory when one or another kid calls to congratulate us for another successful year. Of course we pretend we had grand plans for celebration!
So you had a fun vacation I am sure? Tons of people around to distract and keep Ave busy for you? I had a huge family and typically hardly saw my offspring while visiting. Needless to say, we visited as often as we could! Babies and toddlers were always a big deal in our family tree.
Because we live so close to the Wisconsin State boarder those fried cheese curds are on the menus a lot in our eateries too and the plain curds in our groceries dairy sections also. The really fresh ones are so wonderfully textured! They actually have a nice little ‘squeak’ when you bite into them!
Meghan says
I love a good cheese curd although I’ve never seen them fried before. I didn’t hate it.
We had a wonderful trip. Ave had a really good time with her cousin and she might have a new favorite uncle now. There were definitely some extra cling to mom moments but it all worked out and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. It helps of course that the Hubby joined us on this trip.
I would be so very sad if I was lactose intolerant especially if it happened later in life because then I know what I’d be missing. Then again, it’s better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all.

So true about having never loved at all! I do buy all the good stuff anyway because! Then heap it all on my husband and live through him. Self torture? No, I somehow I am happy to be around it. On occasion I just break down and cheat. Then sleep in the spare room.

This weeks word of the week, Humdinger! Now I need to use it somehow! My sister has so many build-a-bears each complete with outfits, underwear and other unnecessary stuffed animal thing. LOL

You always have such full weeks; it sounds like you had a really neat time in Portland. Also that foodie event looks good; I’ve never had cheese curds, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about them.
And donating/purging is one of my favorite things to do; it is nice to know other people can use them!

happy anniversary! i love the pictures from playdates. I look back at our pictures from that time period and it’s always so funny to see how little the kids were yet they still have their same baby faces.
Meghan says
Thanks lovely. A vacation is a good way to spend an anniversary. A night in the sheets doesn’t hurt either. Alas, Ave slept in the same room as us.

Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
Build a bear is awesome and I love Ave’s style. She has an eye for colour, the best way to be. David went to work today with a bright hot pink shirt, indigo blue trousers and the most orange of Orange socks (which you can see when he walks). I love that my dude isn’t afriad of some brightness in his life! Ha!
And the cheese drawer is perfection. Some have wine cellars, you have ‘the drawer’. Totally amazing!

Ave and David should pair up. They’d be extra colorful together.
I need to build a wine cellar to complement my cheese drawer.
