Week in Review: All Talk and All Play (#141)

July 16, 2018 by Meghan 22 Comments

Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Last week passed in a blur, and it turns out I took very few pictures. I know, I know, bad blogger, bad. Translation: today is going to be lots of words with only a handful of images thrown in for kicks and your attention span (mine too, if I’m honest).

Let’s get listing:

I mowed the lawn once and watered the veggie garden daily, despite our pesky neighborhood squirrels eating my cucumbers. In an attempt to thwart their next round of plundering, I made and sprayed a concoction involving cayenne pepper and vinegar. Take that you fluffy tailed rodents.

I took Ave to Toddler Treats, a class at the local library which involves no food, despite the name, unless you count the fruit flashcards. I do not, and I call shenanigans.

I finished Season 3 of Outlander and then cancelled my Starz subscription since the new episodes won’t air until November. Frugality at its finest.

I packaged up and returned the minuscule dessert bowls I ordered by mistake and then correctly purchased the extra deep soup/cereal bowls. What can I say? The pictures were misleading, and I like big bowls.

I made a double batch of these sweet potato chickpea burgers and a round of my own peanut butter chocolate bites.

I hit up the grocery store twice.

I wrote and shared a Currently post.

I started and finished the book, Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple. It was a quick entertaining read.

The Hubby and I took Ave to Memphis Kiddie Park, where our little cheeky monkey insisted on riding the roller coaster, despite our own misgivings. We caved because we’re a bunch of suckers, and of course Ave loved it, along with the simpler rides too.

We had a play date with friends we haven’t seen in far too long, and Ave got to enjoy her buddy’s considerable truck collection. She’s very big on excavators and bulldozers right now.

We brought a picnic to the library’s summer porch concert and got to enjoy live music along with our tasty vittles. Ave snagged all the beans and peas from my bowl.

We hit up the Lakewood summer meltdown festival and sweated our non-ass asses off, or at least I did. Ave, on the other hand, cooled off in the street style splash pad.

The bulk of my week though involved getting washed, packed and ready to head out to Canada today for our family vacation. I made lots of lists and checked them twice. Now bring on the beach (and maybe a beer too).

(This is last year’s vacation. I’m 100% certain it will look the same this year.)

It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

Oh yes, she is quite sassa-frassy, much to my delight and dismay. 🙂

Peanut butter and chocolate are 2 of my favorite food groups. I must try those balls!!! (That’s what she said!)

I also must try your spray concoction to keep the rodents away from my plants. I put my houseplants on our front porch for the summer and the bunnies have been chewing some of them down to nubs. They come right up onto our porch – cheeky little bunnies!!!

I don’t think my cayenne pepper spray worked because I saw the squirrels were back the very next day. Thankfully my Hubby built me a contraption to cover the entire garden with netting. Here’s hoping it works.

CAYENNE. And I’m going out to get cayenne. I’m grieving your cucumbers with you. I’m so sorry for your loss. Now let’s get revenge on those furry scumbags.

Big bowls, nutty balls, splash pads and picnics outside all fit into my favorite things list. And packing lists! I’m so bummed our timing perfectly worked against us. Alas. Have the best time at your wonderful family getaway. Relax like a baller. Truly wish I could come for a visit. All my best to all of you!

The cayenne failed although my Hubby built a contraption which covers the whole dang garden so there’s hope left for this year.

Something called “Toddler Treats” should definitely have food. Sounds like a bait and switch to me.

You mowed the lawn one more time than I did. But at least I weeded the front flower beds for the first time all summer….yikes.

    Have a wonderful vacation!

I should do the same with my Starz subscription, in truth. Thanks for reminding me!
What did you think of Season 3 of Outlander? I really liked the first half, but I was pretty disappointed by the second half. 🙁

I enjoyed season three and significantly more than season two. I wasn’t a huge fan of the war. That being said, I’m really looking forward to them being in America.

I’m really annoyed with people calling balls bites. They are BALLS. Tasty, delicious balls. 😉

Would love your feedback on the rodent spray. The rats outside keep on eating the lemon peel off the lemons on our tree and I did hear cayenne works. Who would have guessed ‘citrus rats’ are actually a thing. I’ve done too much research…
And we are coming close to finishing season one of Outlander. It’s highly stereotypical and the accents are all over the place (it would be like having a show set in New York with folk having a southern twang) but we are absolutely hooked! Outlander here is on Netflix, just two seasons but the fact that season 3 exists holds hope that it will be on there soon.

I think the rodent spray was an epic failure, but the Hubby built me a garden encompassing netting thing so hopefully my tomatoes and such will come back. Fingers crossed.

I really enjoyed The Outlander series, but that’s typical for me when it’s based on books I’ve read.
