I’m pretty sure the only thing that could shake me out of a self-imposed blogging break is a post about breakfast.
Well played Arman, well played.
Breakfast is kinda my shit.
♫ “Cause it’s the real shit, shit to make em feel shit. Lump em in the club shit.” ♫
Apparently it’s also the kind of meal to make me bust into Mobb Deep’s Quiet Storm or Icona Pop’s, I Love It. Yep, been there, done that, and obviously, I have no loyalties where music is concerned. Breakfast on the other hand, is a different and delicious story.
I love breakfast. It’s the bomb diggety of my meals, the champagne to my orange juice, if you will, which is almost as important as the food. I wouldn’t want to be parched now; dehydration is no way to go, although I do reserve my mimosa consumption for weekends, the days when I don’t crunch numbers for a living. See how considerate I am.
Since I’m feeling so kind (I need to take advantage of these moments), I’m going to bypass a whole host of words and jump right into Arman’s Spill It Sunday Survey – The Breakfast Edition. … and away we go.
What is your classic go to breakfast choice?
My go to breakfast, especially when I’m on the move, is a fruit filled smoothie. If there’s greens on hand, I’ll toss those in too. You know what they say. Blend ’em if ya got ’em.

Favorite sweet style breakfast?
My favorite sweet breakfast would have to be any of my homemade granola. I use maple syrup as the sweetener, which I offset it with a scoop of plain Greek yogurt and usually some fresh fruit. In the words of a sly leprechaun, it’s “magically delicious,” without all the faux ingredients.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Banana Granola, also known as The Elvis. I promise to share this recipe as soon as my nimble little phalanges type it up. Hopefully in the very near future.

Favorite savory style breakfast?
Eggs are my absolute favorite, hands down, breakfast, although I do like to keep my hands up long enough to eat them. They also make me channel Dr. Seuss.
I would eat them in a box. I would eat them with a fox. I would eat them in a house. I would eat them with a mouse. I would eat them here or there. I would eat them anywhere.

I’m hooked on Kirsten’s Breakfast Salad with sautéed shallots, cabbage, eggs and potatoes. I figure if someone can get me to enjoy a vegetable I don’t even like (I’m talking to you, Mr. Cabbage Head), that’s a win in my book. Seriously this dish is freaking AH-MA-ZING.
Another breakfast I adore in a subtle and sweet way is Arman’s Sweet Potato and Cheddar Pancakes, which also come with a dose of cauliflower and spinach, a savory veggie filled pancake if I ever did see one.
And last but certainly not least, we can’t forget Heather’s Zucchini filled gems. I literally defrosted shredded zucchini earlier this week, with these babies in mind. I’m thinking they’ll make a perfect post work dinner.

Strangest breakfast you’ve ever eaten?
A Beet Juice Mimosa, by my account and yours.
Do you have a typical breakfast routine?
Open Mouth – Insert Food. 🙂
Since no Spill It post would be complete without a selfie, I’ll share my morning splendor, bed head and all.
What’s your take on breakfast? What kind of breakfast do you eat the most? Just for kicks, what’s one breakfast you can’t stand? Do not say eggs. Alright fine, say whatever you want. I did ask, didn’t I?
Abby says
I love breakfast so much it’s basically the only reason I get out of bed, and then lunch is the only reason I carry on after breakfast is eaten. Unfortunately, breakfast is eaten at work during the week so it’s usually overnight oats in a million different combinations (okay, probably three different combinations.) That’s why I like weekend mornings so much–I can actually eat a warm, delicious breakfast without having my soul sucked out for the rest of the day. Yay breakfast!

It’s why I love weekend mornings too…casual, lazy, big breakfasts whenever I feel like it. Without the soul suckage is just icing on the cake. 🙂
Pip {Cherries & Chisme} says
Breakfast is pretty much my reason for getting up in the morning! Generally rotates between porridge and pancakes depending on how much time I have…
The one breakfast I (usually) can’t stand would be anything along the lines of a fry up (including potatoes, sorry…) unless I’m hungover, in which case, GIMME!

I have never tried porridge. I need to get on that.
I forgive your potato hating ways (although I never forget. Kidding. Sort of. 😉 ).
Perhaps you just need to consume alcohol more regularly. 🙂
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body says
Breakfast is such a great meal! I find it takes me so long to make smoothies, so they aren’t my go to breakfast but they are a nice treat on days I have time to spare 🙂

I actually love smoothies for the opposite reason. They’re so easy for me to make. It’s probably because mine are just a bunch of fruit and greens, without a whole lot of add ins. They usually take me a couple of minutes to whip up and then I’m out the door.
Davida @ The Healthy Maven says
that picture. amazing.
Ask me about breakfast once I’m done the ebook because right now I am just about ready to never eat breakfast food again…I repurposed waffles the other day by throwing them into a salad and calling them “Croutons”. The boy was NOT pleased.

Which one? Now I’m curious.
Next time serve them up alongside some chicken and you’ll have chicken and waffles.

I love breakfast. Mostly during the week its a grab and go thing- smoothies or muffins or the like, but my faaaavorite is weekend mornings when I can take my time and do it right! Eggs done all kindsa ways (usually with some kind of sauce. or in a fluffy omelet), biscuits, sauteed veggies, etc. In fact, I brought an omelet to work for lunch today! But I’m not really a fan of sticky, sweet breakfasts unless it’s a family special occasion like Christmas or Thanksgiving.

What you said. Exactly. I’m much more of a savory breakfast girl and weekend breakfasts are hands down my favorite. I can relax, take my time, get my dance on in the kitchen….all in my pajamas, of course. 🙂
Khushboo says
This post only gives me another reason why I love you- you share my adoration for breakfast! Lately I’ve been all about oatmeal but I think eggs will have to be on the menu tomorrow after this post! Although I love cereal, I can’t do it for brekkie- it keeps me full for all of 3 minutes and let’s be honest: that shit ain’t gonna fly around here ;)!

I can’t even remember the last time I had a bowl of cereal. That’s weird because I do enjoy like it. Hmm. I need to fix that. I like to throw fresh fruit in my cereal and pair it with a side of toast, and then I find I’m more satiated.
Look at that, you’re making me crave cereal now. 🙂
Alice says
Eggs! I also love eggs. Especially poached. Mmmmmm. But that’s got to be for a weekend. Week days are either the trusty weetabix (3 in a bowl, lots of milk) or, if I eat at work (which is most of the time) a big bowl of porridge with dried bananas.
I can’t stand those horrible soggy tomatoes you get in a cooked breakfast sometimes. Or maybe that’s just a British thing?
Do your smoothies fill you up enough to see you through to lunch? I have mine as a mid-morning snack…..

I’ve never done a poached egg. I need to look into that unless you’ve got a great recipe….
Soggy tomatoes for breakfast is no Bueno, and I’m not even Spanish.
Nope, I treat my smoothies as a first breakfast. Since they’re really just a bunch of fruit and greens, it’s not really a good meal replacement for me. My second breakfast though is usually some of my granola with yogurt and more fruit.
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
I get the feeling that you like your eggs as much as I like my oats. I can (and do) eat them every morning and never get sick of them. Sometimes I even have them for lunch or dinner too. I’ve even gone the savoury route on a handful of occasions, and I like them that way too. Don’t knock it till ya try it! But can you believe that with how much I love oats, I have yet to make them into granola? Try not to be too disappointed with me 😳
Amanda @ .running with spoons. recently posted…. WIAW … don’t eat like me .
Meghan says
That is exactly right. My love for eggs matches your love for oats. I wish I had eggs every morning, although I might get sick of them. They’re usually reserved for lazy and lovely weekend breakfasts or evening dinners. 🙂
I actually want to try my hand at a savory granola so I wouldn’t knock it all, and we need to rectify your granola less life. No disappointment here, but I’m going to have to change it. I just need to make sure everything is made in a peanut less facility. Can’t be maiming you on your first try. That could be awkward.
Laura @ Spint 2 the Table says
I go to sleep at night things about breakfast. It’s often the most exciting part of my day. Maybe that’s a bit extreme… or not. Breakfast is next to godliness, dammit.

I lurve an eggy breakfast and have it at least three times a week. Other than that I will go for a smoothie or just skip to lunch, which is a big no-no but I like being naughty and sometimes just can’t do breakfast. I am not a fan of the sweet breakfast, pancakes or waffles. I understand the appeal and occasionally have them but always end up with a sour stomach from the sugar and am left craving something rich and salty (omelette….. Mmmmmm). One breakfast food I kind of hate is oatmeal. I like oats but cooked mushy oatmeal is something I don’t think I’ll ever get into. All of your breakfasts looked oh so heavenly, even the pancakes 🙂
Meghan says
So we’re like twins. Sweet breakfasts are ok, every so often, but usually leave me wanting more. Eggs are my jam and weekend breakfasts usually happen around lunch time. I don’t go for oatmeal either. It doesn’t look at all appealing to me.
I like naughty Liz. She sounds fun.

Okay now I know it’s wrong to play favourites but your breakfast post TRUMPED everyone elses. Maybe because I would literally eat any of the things you posted…even that mimosa and I’ve never had a mimosa before!
I should totally make the peanut butter granola recipe and post it as my own and make you look like a copycat. 😉
One breakfast I can’t stand? Cereal and milk. I’m sorry but that’s not breakfast.

You’ve never had a mimosa!!! What?! Holy Shit; you need to fix that.
You better not, although it’s probably happened already twelve times since I originally posted it and I’m so clueless about other blogging stuff, I haven’t even noticed. Besides, you are the only one fortunate one to have the actual recipe in your possession, aside from me of course.
Cereal and milk is a great snack. Throw is some fruit and a side of toast slathered in butter, and I might call it a meal. 🙂
Sarah Pie says
I love that you share the same enthusiasm for my favorite meal of the day (all day, any day). Those goodies you linked are all going on the to-try list because I didn’t see one thing that didn’t look amazing!
Also that lemon blueberry granola crack…. if this elvis combo of yours is half as good as that granola recipe I’m in serious danger of OD’ing on oats 🙂

There are way worse ways to go. 😉
