Week In Review: The Picture Edition

May 12, 2014 by Meghan 31 Comments

I had every intention of writing a witty and wonderful Week in Review post today.

After all, I was on vacation last week, and I did manage to spend three blissful days in Buffalo visiting with the family.

Live Buffalo

However, I also got home fairly late last night. Hey, 8 o’clock on a Sunday night IS late for me, so I opted to eat chip dip for dinner and watch Game of Thrones instead of penning a post. My bad, which means today’s Week in Review is going to be all about the pictures.

Let’s begin.

  • This is my “I’m officially on vacation face” or really faces, which is kind of fitting considering my multiple personalities.

Vacation Meg

  • Booze in the foreground, water in the background. I’m not entirely sure what this was, but I do know I went back for seconds.

Cosmo

  • I checked out Cleveland’s newest light fixture, and officially the world’s largest outdoor chandelier. I hate to be clichΓ© or anything but Cleveland Rocks and now it Sparkles.

Cleveland Playhouse Square Chandelier

  • I made a double batch of granola, Lemon Blueberry to be exact. I dub this photo Granola in a Jar, which absolutely blows OIAJ (Oats in a Jar) out of the water. Yeah, I said it.

Granola in a Jar

  • I got in on some family yoga action. Either those are my brother’s legs in the top left corner, or I really need to shave.

Yoga Feet

  • I rekindled my love for an old flame: olives.

Kalamata Olive Love 2

  • While continuing my existing affair with potatoes.

Red Skinned Potatoes

  • And of course, I could never turn my back on fruit or cheese.

Fruit and Cheese Course

  • I plotted, charted and put in my new vegetable garden or as the Hubby fondly calls it “The Farm.” I’m pretty sure you need animals to call something a farm, and Oscar doesn’t count, although he’d be totally cool with being a barn cat. In fact, I think he’d prefer to live outdoors.

Oscar and the Garden

I planted fresh herbs in the pots: basil, catnip, cilantro, chives, flat leaf parsley, and rosemary. In the actual raised garden bed is (or soon will be) asparagus, broccoli, brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, corn, cucumber, garlic, leeks, hot and bell peppers, tomatoes of all sizes, spinach, and zucchini. It’s pretty much my pride and joy.

Raised Garden Bed also known as The Farm

  • I meditated in a sun patch in the yard…. in my bathrobe and slippers, which does not scream crazy cat lady at all. Crap. In my defense, it was the backyard so I was invisible to the public eye.

Meditating in Robe and Slippers

  • I drank espresso by the mini-cup full.

Espresso

  • I went for a run with my Family and Rooster, my baby brother’s one-eyed dog. He started the run panting, I finished the run panting; it was all good.

Buffalo Run

Buffalo Run 2

Rooster and the Running Shoes

  • I got to hang with the newest family member and spend some quality time with the girls.

Baby Zane

Baby Zane 2

Corey and Baby Zane

Hunia, Meg and Lauren 2

And on that note, I’ll pass the torch over to you so you can get your list on and link up.

    Meghan,
That baby’s eyes are lovely. I’m not sure if I punctuated that properly.
The food looks really good–but I am so with you for chip dip for dinner.
If I hadn’t discovered that a big tank and a basket would turn my spouse into a Grillmaster, I’d be eating that.
As it is, we’re experimenting with the new-to-me veggie basket each time he fires up the grill, and loving what comes off of it. He’s even thinking about buying a larger grill . . .
I am linking up my Mother’s Day project–a Garlic Scape Recipe Round Up.
I sat on my bum all afternoon (after doing the Care Walk 5K in the rainy morning) and created clickable collages for 28 recipes using garlic scapes. Pretty proud of myself and hope it’s a good resource when the CSA farm share and my garden gives me garlic scapes next month.
And next year? Will you plant garlic over the winter and have your own garlic scapes??

The little bugger is so expressive, and I absolutely blame those beautiful eyes. He gets them from his momma.

I’ll be planting more garlic in the fall for sure and whatever else you tell me to plant in the fall really.

I can’t wait to check out your garlic scape collage; I’ve been secretly waiting for it with bated breath or really garlic breath, which is almost the same thing, I’m sure.

Today is the last day of my vacation and after a lovely brunch with the in-laws and some errands, I plan on relaxing all day, which I’m sure will entail some blogging.

OMG congrats on your new family member- he is such an angel to look at :)! What is it about the heat that makes my love for fruit multiply by like a thousand. Let’s just say that I never would have thought I’d want to faceplant a bowl of pineapple & cantaloupe, but damn they are looking delish!

He is adorable, and I hold his momma accountable for those beautiful eyes.

Yes to the fruit. I always crave fruit but it’s much stronger in the summer time. It’s like a giant bowl of refreshments.

If you told me five years ago, I’d be growing corn in my backyard, I would have laughed at the absurdity of your statement. I know they say people can’t change, but I beg to differ.

I hope you get a vacation soon, maybe stateside, or at the very least, I hope work slows down a bit.

Meghan, I am coveting your raised garden bed. We just got some snow in Denver… and I’ve only been here a year so I haven’t figured out what the “right” time is to plant a garden. So until then, I’ll just live vicariously through your raised garden bed.

Oh no. Snow still. That’s no good, although I’ve heard that about Denver weather. It fluctuates like crazy. You are welcome to live vicariously through my raised bed. I’m so ecstatic about it that I’m willing to share in the excitement.

You are so lucky to have such a gorgeous vegetable garden! I could grow one in AZ, but I don’t have time to tend to it. I’ve been wanting to do a raised herb garden forever. Agh…maybe one day! I enjoyed your pics, so lovely!

I love everything to do with veggies so I figured this was one venture worth making the time. I’m thinking it might help me slow down a little too, which is probably a good thing. πŸ™‚

At least you managed to put a picture post up. I got home from a weekend in huge mountains late last night and and just decided to take today off of blogging altogether. Sometimes I just need an extended vacation from the blog world… Instead, I experimented in the kitchen with recipes that’ll probably end up on the blog anyways… So while it was still technically work at least it was delicious πŸ™‚

I take extended breaks too sometimes, especially if I’m starting to stress about finding time to pen a post. I usually decide to skip that one, and instantly I feel better. πŸ™‚ I’m glad you had a long weekend with your mom and then decided to spend your Monday recipe testing. That’s happy blog work right there.

And agreed about granola in a jar being better than OIAJ! Also, loooooove that chandelier. Anything that sparkles gets a thumbs up from me.

Meghan, I love your “rocking out on vacation” picture! And I’m crazy jealous of your vegetable garden – it’s lovely! I’m not sure where you are in Northeast Ohio, but I hope your garden came through last night’s storms alright. I don’t have a garden as cool as yours, but I planted my containers of herbs and hot peppers on Saturday – I felt so bad for them outside in the crazy rain!

Yes, thank goodness. The garden has survived the storms, the flooding, all of it these past few days. Hopefully it survives tomorrow’s upcoming temperature dip too.
I hope your herbs and peppers come though ok too.

Chip dip for dinner is fabulous, I had the same thing earlier this week (encouraged in no small part by the comment where you told me you had gotten chip dip… vicious delicious cycle).

But on to actual exciting thing you have either a very legit garden or a very small farm! Whatever you decide to call it, it looks amazing and I am so happy for you πŸ™‚ Also exciting is tons of family time, which I’ve been soaking in the last few days, and jars of granola which I am currently out of.

Stoked that you had a (much deserved) visit back home- and that chandelier looks absolutely amazing- and now that you mention Buffalo, Dammit again for me not blogging when I was upstate New York.

Those olives look delicious and I cannot believe I thought I disliked them- I tried a chilli oil infused one the other day and wanted to bath in it’s brine.
