I haven’t been blogging lately because I’m all kinds of cuckoo for cocoa puffs over the World Cup. Men in tight shorts. Need I say more?
Alright that’s total crap. Aside from the Hubby’s running commentary and believe me, it is running, I’ve haven’t watched a lick of it. I really do like the ♫ Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole ♫ song they keep playing on TV though. It makes me feel all festive and want to sing Ole multiple times on repeat. Whoever came up with that ditty is a marketing genius. It also makes me want to drink beer, and I don’t even like beer. Yep, suggestive commerce at its finest.
What can I say about my brief disappearance, aside from the fact I’m sure you all noticed. I mean, it’s not like you have lives of your own. What’s that? You do….oh, well then you know what I’m getting ready to say, especially if you’re an introvert. Blue skies coupled with the summer sun tends to kick life into overdrive and along with it comes lots of social engagements, many of which are too good to turn down. Um, hello? Yoga in front of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with 2,000 other yogi. Yeah, I did that. It was bad ass in a peaceful Zen type of way, of course.
The more of a social butterfly I become, and mind you I wouldn’t change a thing from the past few days, the more recovery time I need. The introvert in me has to play possum. Instead of actually being dead because that would totally suck, I’m more like an ostrich burying my head in the sand. Plus, those birds are pretty hot.
It’s been a few days now, and I’m starting to feel more like myself so what better way to shake a tail feather than to come back and join in some What I Ate Wednesday fun. A big thank you goes to Ms. Jenn, our hostess with the mostess.
I give you my Sunday eats.
In no particular order (yeah right), breakfast was half of the Breadsmiths new Vegan Blueberry Banana Muffin, not because I have amazing self-control, although stranger things have happened, but really because I was being a good wife and saving half for the Hubby. It was delicious, and I might have bastardized it with a pat of butter. Lunch was a snack platter made up of an apple and lots of Honey Roasted Peanut Butter, alongside some Sweetened Banana Chips. Later on in the day, I had an unpictured Brownie Bite and a Lemon Square. Needless to say, my sweet tooth is alive and well. I also snacked on some Garlic Scape Pesto with fistfuls of crackers and two pieces of Tuscan Herb Bread. Dinner was a salad with berries and blue cheese, plus a big ol’ plate full of pasta with some Spicy Tomato Pepper Sauce I had made and frozen last summer. It came with a side of green beans, also from my deep freezer. There’s no truth to rumor I’m trying to use up all my last bits and bobs before I go on another freezing bender (cough, cough, lies and deceit, cough, cough).
There you have it. A full day of food.
Now forgive me because I have to end this post with a little ♫ Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole ♫ C’mon, sing it with me. ♫ Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole ♫ Feels good, right.
Are you an introvert? If so how do you recharge from summer social engagements? Anyone else digging the ♫ Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole ♫ song? It’s okay to admit it. I’m right there with you.

Haha I am OBSESSED with the Ole Ole song right now…it’s the best beat to work out. I am not going to lie- I was so bummed when it came on at the end of my run today. If only I didn’t spend the rest of my workout jamming to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack…yes I went there ;)!

I LOVE that you took a few days away to be yourself and enjoy the delights of summer, that is a wonderful thing! I definitely need that from time to time to, and the summer is the best time for it. I can be an introvert too, and I enjoy being on my own to be able to do what I want to do. So keep rocking it….just not too much so we never see you again 🙂 I am a bad English person in that I am not following the world cup like the rest of my country…..but I am in America….and that was my excuse….until America went crazy for it….so now….ummm…..I have better things to do 😉

As much as I love summer, I also find it incredibly exhausting. So much going on, and the fact that it stays bright out until 11 makes me feel like I should be up and active too. Let’s just say that I’m more than ready to slow down by the time fall rolls around. And yes — I need a handful of days to recharge after being super social, but you knew this already because we’re basically the same person 😛

i am the same way, especially with summer. I need more time to myself to recoup. And to be honest, i thrive off solitude at times. But i blame the heat here. It’s draining on my brain too. LOL!
OLE!

The heat definitely can have an impact too, but either way I need moments of isolation to recharge. It’s probably why we all like yoga so much. Hmm…yeah.

As an avid world cup watcher and soccer fan I am of course chiming in 😉 Imagine my singing as a very loud and very wrong noise 😀
Summertime is the time of endless social events. At the moment it’s crazy here in Germany with the World Cup being a festive event where we Germans tend to group together to screem at oversized screens in unison 😛
I used to be absolutely introvert but I get more extrovert with age. Nevertheless crowded places make me anxious and after a few days being overly social I tend to be pretty antisocial. I just love me my calm and quiet apartment for a nice and cozy evening in. That said I need to add how much I need my homeoffice Wednesdays in order to recharge for two more days facing co-workers 😛

I think your singing sounds wonderful. I would absolutely belt it out with you, especially after a cocktail or two. 🙂
I like to socialize too; it’s just that my energy comes from moments of isolation whereas extroverts draw their energy from others. Other people make them come alive and they like to always be around others, whereas other people drain energy from introverts which is why the recharge. Preferably a singing recharge, after a couple of cocktails, of course. 😉

Ok, that’s a lie. I love the ole ole all year long. Is there a christmas version of it?
I am an extrovert, but I still love to spend time on my own. And I do that by reading smart books or trash magazines, going for walks or runs or just hang on my couch, watching trash (or soccer) and crumble my shirt with whatever I am stuffing my face with. Bliss.

Oh my goodness, I completely feel you on “recovery time.” I am literally the biggest introvert in the world! I kid you not–I’m in college, and I spend most of my Friday and Saturday nights watching The West Wing with a friend before crashing around 10 PM. During the summer? I’ll see friends maaayyyybbbeeee once a week, haha. I have lots of fun when I get together with them, but I just don’t have the energy to be social every day! (My favorite way to recharge is by reading books–I’ve read 11 this summer so far!)
I haven’t seen any of the World Cup, either. Just not a soccer person 🙂
Meghan says
I love to read books although lately I’ve had to share the wealth with blog reading too.
Yep it’s always fun to get together with hours but then I usually need a nap when it’s over. 🙂

I haven’t watched the World Cup because I was already busy watching paint dry and I couldn’t handle two boring things at once. Oh, wait, golf is on?!? The Trifecta!!
Now that I’ve pissed off 60% of your readers…
That day of food is so whole! Good ingredients, good yummy things all making your yogi body happy. Right on.
I am a total introvert, which most people don’t believe. But you are spot on about introvert tendencies. It’s not that we are hermits, it’s that we need to recharge after ANY engagement. So one party=one day at home for people like me. Even too much time online fry’s my receptors and I gotta go stick my feet in the dirt and be quiet.
How I manage it is to know I can’t do too much. So I just don’t. People get disappointed or not if I’m not there, but I’m living for me and since I turn into Cybil when I’ve had too much face time, I prefer to run interference beforehand.
I seriously want apples and peanut butter right now. Yummmmmm.

Thank you on understanding introverts. People don’t get you can be social and still be an introvert. That recharge time is what allows me to get out there and see people. 🙂

That yoga event looked amazing! I love outdoor yoga. When I lived in Korea last year, I did a class on the beach every Saturday morning. A great way to recharge before the weekend began in earnest.
PS- Might have felt a little awkward doing bridge pose with 2,000 other people, though…even if they were fellow yogis.

The energy at the yoga event was amazing, which means no one cared about bridge pose. For real, we were singing love songs to one another so what’s a little bridge after that.
I think yoga on the beach in Korea sounds pretty magical.

Haha love that about the muffins! I made vegan waffles this weekend simply because I was out of eggs… this in no way stopped me from piling on the butter and honey.
I know exactly what you mean about needing a recharge, I feel like my “weekends” are a whirlwind of trying to hang out with the BF, meet new people, and just generally not lay in a sun patch with a book by myself that by the time BF heads back to work I’m more than ready to shut the world out for a few days at a time.
I was wondering where you’d been though, so I’m glad to hear that everything is okay 🙂

“alongside some Sweetened Banana Chips”. I think you are, perhaps, the ONLY HLB who has ever eaten sweetened banana chips. How dare you. Bananas are already sweet enough.
…..I eat dried mango which has crystallised sugar formations on it.
This was the day after we skyped and I’m going to pretend I had the other muffin half. I think I’m abit of both- introvert and extrovert- but definitely after being more social during the week, I embrace the rest side of it!

Of course I used sweetened banana chips. They’re better that way, and you know I’m always blatantly honest.
You might be an introvert then since it doesn’t actually mean your anti-social (which most people assume by the way), it just means you need to recharge solo after social situations because you draw your energy from inside. Social engagements, while fun, can often leave you feeling drained. Extroverts on the other hand draw there energy from others so they come alive in social situations and want to be in them more often than not. How’s that for a little Introvert 101.
