Week in Review: The Minutia Adds Up (#61)

December 12, 2016 by Meghan 39 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Do you ever have one of those weeks where you can’t remember anything you did? Yeah that happens to me all the time, which is why I jot down notes in my iPhone or else most of these posts would be bleak black holes of emptiness, when in actuality nothing could be further from the truth.

While last week’s comings and goings weren’t fraught with magical memories, I still accomplished a holy crapton of stuff. Let’s get listing:

I got the guest bedroom cleaned, the bedding washed and ready for a visit from my dad and stepmom.

I also made a spinach and cheese lasagne in anticipation of their stay. Sadly the weekend weather kept them home. On the plus side though, I’ve got plenty of leftovers now for the week.

I cleaned the kitchen, including the baby’s high chair, which was as close to the seventh layer of hell as possible without actually taking the plunge. I’m shuddering just thinking about it.

I did some holiday shopping.

I finished my book and started another, which I’m more than halfway through already.

I made a boatload of bracelets to send to friends.

The Hubby and I put a serious dent in the nearly one hundred holiday cards we send out each year. I created the address labels and signed my name, while my other half managed the rest. He’s definitely a keeper.

I folder and put away mountains of clean clothes, mainly because I was out of underwear and socks.

Speaking of footwear, we scored a stocking for the tiny human. She’s the newly acquired striped green one.

I put air in the tires since they were drastically low (cough, ten pounds, cough), while Ave waited patiently in the car.

The babe and I also hit up a Gymboree class, which was ball and bubble heavy, perfect for little ones.

We also had a play date with another little buddy on Friday morning and cruised over to grandma and grandpa’s house in the afternoon to check out a new and exciting toy.

Throughout the week, we paid visits to Breadsmith (Ave is officially a fan of the samples), Whole Foods, Walgreens, and Target.

As for my solo endeavors, I hopped on the elliptical once and squeezed in a Monday morning yoga class, my first time getting bendy with it in over a year. It was almost as good as chocolate.

I submitted my Motherhood to Music post to Scary Mommy. Cross your fingers for me please.

I photographed and worked on a post for vegetable bean soup, which I hope to share later this week.

This hearty soup is packed with whatever veggies and beans you have on hand. It's full of flavor and foolproof.

In other kitchen news, I made blueberry pancakes (Ave destroyed hers), granola, and a batch of blue cheese and chive drop biscuits for the sole purpose of freezing them. These are deliciously handy to have around. They also pair perfectly with soup. Just sayin’.

In hindsight, it’s unbelievable that I started this post thinking I hadn’t accomplished anything last week. The minutia most definitely adds up.

It’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

awww we lived at Gymboree! makes me so happy to see their colorful mats in this post and to know you guys are going there 🙂 I had my son’s second and third birthday party there and cherish those memories big time! we also took an art class when he was about two there, I hope they still have it when ave is a little older – you will adore it!

I love Ave’s stocking. We tried to get new ones this year as ours literally fell apart but as I was slacking with all the Christmas stuff this year we just ended up without any at all.

Laundry is just such a pain. Stefan does it. All I have to do is take the folded laundry and put it in my wardrobe. But I still don’t do that. I live off the socks and underware stack Stefan folded two weeks ago that is still sitting on the table in our office. When people come to visit I just shut the door ;-P

I am crossing my fingers for the post submission. It was gold and so smart. They’d be nuts if they rejected it!

No news from Scary Mommy which means they didn’t take the post. Rats, I had high hopes for that one. The Hubby would live off his nicely folded laundry pile if I didn’t prod him endlessly to put it away. Stefan is much nicer than me. 🙂

A guest bedroom that cozy, spinach lasagna and legume-filled soup? I’d happily sub in for any guests that can’t make it to your house next time ;). For the company, too, obviously. Ball sports weren’t really my thing in school but I think I could handle those baby ones.
It’s awesome you got to get your yoga on again. My sister has been trying to get into it lately but the class schedule isn’t working too well with her and her husband’s schedule.
Also: 100 Christmas cards?! Gee! The idea is so sweet but I’m still glad we don’t have this tradition over here. I do still want to send out a cookie care package to a few relatives who aren’t having the happiest Christmas time this year.

Typical WIR… we go in thinking we did nothing and then at the end of the post we are wondering how we did it all. That’s why we love it.
I love the colors in your guest bedroom. The red curtains with the blue are slammin’. I’m sorry your Dad and stepmom couldn’t make the trip – ugh damn weather :(. It was real bad this week.
You were definitely a machine in the kitchen! Those biscuits (subbing out the blue cheese) are so my favorite. I wanted to make them this week but I gotta get through the rest of whats taking over my freezer first. I need to make some massive batches of granola this week too… fingers crossed I have your productivity success.
Also – your bracelets!! They are perfect!

Those biscuits are some of my favorites. I swap out the blue cheese all the time for whatever cheese I’ve got on hand. Also any herb really works in them too. So much goodness.

My guest bedroom door is always open for you, especially if you bring granola.

Cheers to a productive week! I feel like it was a blur and I may or may not have accomplished anything. I kind of gave up after my daughter peed on the couch yet again and told me as much in that nonchalant way of hers. The threes are kicking my ass in all kinds of ways and the fours really aren’t that much better. Time to head to Trader Joe’s to stock up on wine so I can make it through the rest of this month. 😉

Whoop whoop you go girl! You certainly had a rocking week! I love the stocking. We have nothing. This marks week 4 of being sick. Luckily it’s me and less Lulu. But I did get it from her, don’t tell her. Thankfully I’m almost feeling human again. Last week was spent coughing, sneezing, blowing my nose, netty pot, sucking, steaming, and topped off with minor arm surgery on Friday. I also had to teach a class where I just walked around and yelled at people nicely. I had to cancel a class the week before because that week I had no voice for 5 days. Oh boy the fun we’ve had over here. They say when it rains it pours. I guess I’m ready for a drought:)
