Week in Review: The Social Edition (#106)

October 30, 2017 by Meghan 34 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Last week the tiny dictator and I were busy little bees, butterflies or any other bubbly B word you can think of because B’s are our jam right now. Seriously, Ave can say bubbles, bzzzz, boom, ball, balloon, baby, boat, boots, and the list goes on and on. I wasn’t kidding about those B sounds.

Without further ado, let’s get listing:

On Monday, Ave had her eighteen month check up where she weighed in at 22 pounds, a handful of inches and a fancy percentile. I’m pretty sure I only remembered her weight because I want to know how much I lift every day.

Since the morning involved shots, we spent the afternoon hanging at the library with another little buddy, and afterwards, Ave and I had a dinner date out: pesto grilled cheese. We fancy like that.

Tuesday morning we tried out a new play group called Toddler Tuesday and it was a hit, maybe because they passed out snacks at the end. Whatever the case may be, Ave detached from my thigh within minutes and was happily playing. We have a winner.

Wednesday found us at a new coffee shop called Play Grounds. One part caffeinated beverages and one part play area for children make it a perfect spot for parents to recharge while their tiny humans run out their energy. We also hit up the park in the afternoon because we can’t resist the slide.

After going to story time on Thursday morning, I dropped the wee one off at grandma and grandpa’s house before meeting some old colleagues for lunch. I ate a salad, followed by an entire order of onion rings. I spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up around the house while watching episodes of Downton Abbey before Ave got home.

On Friday, Ave and I drove to Buffalo. Well technically I drove while she slept in the back or watched Elmo. God bless Sesame Street. We visited with family, including the infamous Uncle Corey who traveled with us to San Diego last month.

Saturday we spent the day at a funeral and the reception afterwards before meeting up with mom for Pakistani food. Ave was a huge fan of the goat. Her palate is broader than mine.

On Sunday, we visited with old friends at the Science Museum in the morning, and then spent the afternoon and evening with Ave’s cousins and had one epic bath. Oh and cheese; can’t forget the cheese.

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

What a fun week! I’ve only had Pakastani food once, but it was chicken and beef and SO good. I dunno how i’d feel about goat.

I’m not sure how I feel about goat either, although the tiny dictator loves it. Her palate is better than mine or at least more varied.

I wish my mom would eat Pakistani food with me. My kids will though, and Ethiopian, so maybe the whole “kids being picky” thing is false and it’s really “old people being picky” and blaming it on kids. I’m going to go with that.

I think you might be right considering Ave’s palate is larger than mine. Thankfully she has so many people in her life she gets a wide variety.

But only the good ‘B’ words, right?

That girl has a seriously impressive palate. I think she beats us all. Is she a blue cheese fan? Hope your travels back home are/were a safe and smooth one.

Grilled cheese sounds like the perfect post-shot comfort food. I’ll have to remember that when I finally get the tetanus booster I’ve been putting off.

I’m impressed that Ave likes goat. I used to raise goats for 4-H and I’m not sure I’m far enough removed from that to eat goat meat. I mean, they were meat goats if you want to get technical, but *I* wasn’t going to be the one to eat them.

I didn’t touch the goat myself. I’m not much of a meat eater and even less so if I had something to do with the raising of it, which I didn’t but you get the idea.

I’ve never had Pakistani food, but I love trying foods from different cultures. And that is the COOLEST coffee shop ever; what a genius idea! I’m sure kids love going to that coffee shop. What a blessing it is to see little Ave growing and thriving; I’m so thankful God puts little children into my life, because they teach me SO much.

    Meg,
I adore seeing Ave’s smiling mug on Mondays. She starts my week off right.

I accomplished much last week–came off a self-imposed string of 4 posts in 10 days, then took off to Minnesota to see my honey.
We ate our way around town, took in the sights, and I left satisfied . . .

I’m so glad you got to spend some time with your honey.

Bubbly busy butterfly Ave is on a roll! I’m that annoying aunt – what’s new? – who gets really excited when the little one has picked up a lot of new words bythe time she sees him again. Yes, it’s normal but still…
Also, B is for barbell and Ave’s your living one ;).
What else? Box, beans, bunny, bunch, … Tempted to throw in bootylicious but we’re keeping it child-friendly, huh ;?
Hope you returned home safely. My parents came back from a weekend visit at my aunt’s – essentially on the other side of the country – but not as intended. We had a major storm around these parts and no trains were going, no rental cars to be found anymore so they borrowed my aunt’s car. So yes, I hope your drive was much smoother – or should I make “buttery-er” a word to stick with the B theme ;)?

I like a theme especially when butter is involved.

The trip went well and the drive was uneventful. A little rain, but nothing too bad like your poor parents.

Ave can also say butt. 🙂

What a fab week! Although don’t talk to me about bees… We had some trying to make a hive outside our kitchen window and they were getting into our kitchen via a vent! Fingers crossed all sorted now!
I’m so glad Ave found a toddler group that she enjoys – hope this keeps up!
Also Pakistani food! Be still my beating heart!!!

About that cheese, though…YUM. The salad looks amazing as well. Not so much the coffee shop/kids playground, although I think it’s a fantastic idea for parents. I would take more than caffeine to get me through that.

love that toddler group, how awesome for both of you! she is just the most precious little social butterfly there ever was. and what a pallatte indeed! isn’t it amazing how these kids learn their own tastes? i’m so fascinated by what the little one likes to eat and what does not. so far she loves fruit, some select veggies, rice, lentils, beans, and different meats and EGGS! oh boy eggs. i guess i’m not upset about any of it. oh i can’t forget ice cream either. that is all of our favorite.
i love getting together with anyone whenever i can. now monday, my day off from work, is my mommy & me day, we have gymnastics in the morning, then go to have a picnic at the park where she loves the slide as well!
strange and interesting coincidence – Lulu was 22 lbs for 2 months while she was in daycare, then when she stopped the daycare, she immediately gained 2 lbs. i’m so much happier and i know she’s sleeping better now that she’s at home, plus our angel from heaven aka nanny cooks like a star, we couldn’t be more grateful. we get the best playmate, the best food, and she gets to sleep until her heart’s content daily. and i’m no longer fretting about her being in a situation that i didn’t like. she can sleep in till she actually has to start school, because when else in your life can you sleep as much as you want???? LOL

What kind of cheese is the pink one? I don’t think I’ve ever seen cheese that colour before!

I met with a friend and her daughter (pretty much exactly Ave’s age) at one of these playground coffee shops a few weeks ago. It was awesome. A little louder than the average coffee shop but her daughter was happily playing and we were able to have a proper chat. I like this concept. Win-win for parents and kids. I can only imagine how boring it must be for a child to hang out in a regular coffee shop. And this way boring started at least an hour later 😉

I am impressed she eats goat. That meat’s got a strong taste!

I am sorry to hear about the funeral. But it’s good to hear you had a good time with your family nonetheless.

She eats so many things. Her palate is way more varied than mine. I’m sure when we come to Germany, she’ll love all the foods. In fact, she tried to steal some one else’s snacks earlier today. Oops.
