Week in Review: Spring Has Sprung Edition (#133)

May 21, 2018 by Meghan 22 Comments

Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

After what seemed like a lifetime of winter, Spring has officially come to Cleveland. I’m beyond thrilled and no longer cursing the cold weather gods, which is a really good thing considering I can easily throw down with the best sailor out there (Earmuffs Ave, earmuffs.).

In any event, the lovely weather has altered the trajectory of our weekly activities, in a good way.

Let’s get listing:

We went on not one, but two ice cream dates. It’s official, Ave is a fan of chocolate (like daddy) and sprinkles (like mommy). Clearly, she has exemplary taste in dessert. It’s a classic example of the (caramel covered) apple not falling far from the tree.

We did some planting therapy in the form of potting flowers. I also snipped and surrounded myself with lilies of the valley because they smell divine. Yet another instance of great things coming in small packages; Ave and I of course being the first.

We had lots of playground dates including a battle with a “round and round slide,” as Ave calls it. After some failed attempts, the tiny human successfully thwarted her demons and conquered the circular highway to hell.

On a less devilish note, we went exploring, Stand By Me, style. I just aged myself, and I don’t care.

We also embraced our inner sloths and broke out the sunglasses and hammock. Next up is a giant vat of sangria. Now if only somebody would make me some. I promise not to share with the toddler.

On the adulting side of the spectrum, I vacuumed out the car, and mowed the lawn, not that you could tell three days later.

Other notable items from last week include a road trip to Buffalo and back, a lunch date with the Hubby, a dinner date with friends, an afternoon visit with a family friend, and another lunch date, this time with grandpa.

The highlight of the week for me though was getting the vegetable garden installed. We’ve got asparagus, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, kale, broccoli, basil, chives, oregano, cilantro, parsley and whatever else Ave carried to the cart at the local garden center. She was a woman on a mission. It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

What is something you accomplished in the last week? Big or small. Are you growing any herbs or vegetables this year?

Finally, the hot and humid has hit southeast PA also. Love this weather! I am also looking forward to afternoons in a shady hammock with a big glass of sangria. My niece gave me a recipe that packs a punch, so I make it sparingly! Your tiny human is adorable, and I am sure lunch with her was the highlight of her grandpa’s week!

I like the sound of sangria that packs a punch.

Oooohhh how I want your garden. And you green thumb. I think I need to buy some indoor flowers just to start making myself feel a bit better for my lack of success outdoors. Though, actually, my tomatoes and kale seem to be doing okay!! Knock on wood.

What a sweet, sweet week. And I don’t just mean the ice cream. But lunch dates, ice cream dates, play dates and looking way too cool for school while lazing in a hammock? Spring is here and you ladies do it up goooood.

Yep, life is good right now, really good in fact.

Keep on with the garden; you will be successful I promise, although not with everything which is just how gardening works.

The green eyed monster momentarily washed over me, seeing y’all enjoying that weather! Then I read your joy and shook it off, and melted at the ice cream cone photo… Still waiting fir the rain and cold to stop long enough to get my garden in.

Suck it all in, cross Rory fingers that this time it sticks, and send some of that charming weather my please!

really envying the ice cream dates and lovely looking weather! her hair is growing out so cutely! i’m sure she would hate that but i don’t know what else to call it 🙂 it’s adorable. we are moving to an apartment in a couple of weeks so honestly i’m just numb to everything right now in preparation for pandemonium. my new job is fine. my kiddo is DIVINE. i love her!! even her extreme SASSSSSS. my goodness the sass is real.

The sass is most definitely real, although I’m not sure about Ave’s hair yet. It’s these wispy little waves that turn curly when she’s hot. She has her own personal barometer for overheating. 🙂

New job, new place to live, all with a toddler in tow…yep, that’s pandemonium.

    The garden looks beautiful!!!

I too am a sprinkles girl. And Cora and Charlie are vanilla and Jonas is my chocolate rebel. You also reminded me I need to get out my hammock and go watch Stand by Me again (dated us both FTW).

Cheers to trying my hand at artichokes too!

Yes, yes, yes. I can’t wait to see what you think of the artichokes. They’re some of my favorites.

Somehow it doesn’t surprise me that you have a sailor’s mouth. (Lots of my favorite women do.) Enjoy the warmer weather and the time out in the garden!

I’m so excited for your veggie garden. You always seem to do so well… Not that I want to tempt fate or anything! One of the plants my parents bought us was a Rosemary. I really really hope I can keep it alive!, so far so good. Plant food helps 🙂
I don’t know what it is with sprinkles but I adore them on my ice cream. I don’t really care for any other toppings bar sprinkles or, if it’s an option, a cherry. I have actually picked cocktails before based on the fact that they come with a cherry. Those glacé cherries have got me good!

Toddler on a hammock ❤. Would she fall asleep in there? I know I would. My toddler and I are both getting over damn spring colds. Last week included lots of Peppa Pig and Daniel Tiger. The upside is she decided that tidying up her toys is now acceptable because Daniel Tiger does it.

I have a wee bit of garden jealousy because yours is much farther along than mine. Though I suppose that’s to be expected when the tomatoes & friends shouldn’t go outside for another week or so here.

Ooooh so much green in this post! I love it 🙂 The hammock looks so comfy. I surely wouldn’t mind relaxing there with a glass of sangria. In fact, we should make sangria next week 😀
I have never been much of a sprinkles fan but then I also wouldn’t be surprised if Germany doesn’t know how to do them in a good way. Maybe I have to give it a try!

I so miss those playground days! It’s like they go from barely able to play on there without us hovering over them to all of a sudden too big/too cool to play there at all. Such a short window, enjoy every second! And the ice cream dates obviously have my heart.

Every time we go to the playground, she does something new and impresses/terrifies me.

There’s way too many scenarios where I think she’d look perfect with a cocktail in her hand. It’s like she’s practicing. God help me.
