Week In Review: The Eleventh Edition

April 1, 2013 by Meghan 34 Comments

Ladies and gentlemen (any men out there?), I’m going to be honest with you because I always am, sometimes even to a fault. Last week was a rough one for me. While I really do love my job, it’s always a little too hectic at the end of the month and every time I think I’ve set myself up for smooth sailing on clear blue waters, life just throws some inane freak occurrence my way, which seems to bitch slap me in the most effective and cruel way possible. That happened at the end of January, it happened again last week, and February just plain old sucks because there are fewer days in the month to accomplish the same amount of work.

Verbal pity party over, I want to start this week off on the right foot, and what better way than with some music and a lovely little list I like to call the Week In Review.

By the way, the head of my company sent me this soundtrack after some particularly good news. See, my job does have its perks. Try to listen to this without bee-bopping along, and yes, bee-bopping is the technical term.

Week In Review Button Final

From anyone unfamiliar with the Week In Review, where the hell have you been? I mean seriously, you need to get on this train stat. It’s where us list lovers band together and reflect back, or list out, all the things we managed to accomplish in the past seven days because ♫ we’re sexy, and we know it. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. ♫ Oh sorry, I lost focus.

Want more info? Click here, and in the meantime get your tookus on over here and join the party. It’s bound to be a blast. In any case, there’s music, and we’re gonna have a good day.

Alright, let me get listing, so you can get linking (up, that is):

  • It’s not my favorite item, but it’s the one which took the majority of my time this past week: work. I worked one hundred million hours. It’s possible this is a slight exaggeration.

dr-evil

  • Food Prep: I hard-boiled some eggs, made scalloped potatoes, and a double batch of granola; this time with pistachio nuts, almond extract, and cranberries. I can’t wait to tear into that bad boy this week.
  • I wrote and published four blog posts.
  • I read a lot of blogs. I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I spend hours, in the very plural sense of the word, reading blogs every week, which means it gets its own bullet point today. How do you like dem apples?
  • I endured this weather on Monday.

Monday Winter Weather

  • Only to be rewarded with some beautiful weather this weekend (sunny and fifty and yes I am desperate enough to think fifty degrees is beautiful).
  • On Saturday and Sunday, I did some digging in the dirt, which I love doing this time of year. Ask me again in the summer when it’s ninety degrees and I’ve been doing it for ten straight weeks, and my answer might be a tad bit different, but not this time of year. Right now, it’s rewarding and hopeful, especially when I have these gals running amok in my flower beds, waiting to greet me. Hi, my little pretties.

Flowers

  • I did a Spinning class and some running this week. I’m not a runner, not even a little bit. In fact, I’m pretty sure my doctor’s orders are don’t run, but when has that ever stopped me before? Hell, it makes me want to do it even more (reverse psychology doesn’t work on me at all), and I’ve got a Tough Mudder to train for. On Thursday, I jogged a mile and half on a treadmill, and then I did another two miles in the park on Saturday and again on Sunday, with the Hubby. Yes, we did it in the park (wink, wink). Aside from the slightly troubling knee pain, which is getting better or more manageable, I am really starting to dig this running thing. Don’t tell anyone though, especially not my doctor. I’m sure he has no idea what he’s talking about, and obviously I’m far more qualified to make an assessment.
  • I very gracefully accepted this gift from the “Easter Bunny,” and by gracefully I mean I jumped up and down and ran squealing around the house before I face planted into it. Thanks mysterious Mr. Bunny. You are welcome at my house anytime. Feel free to bring your friends.

Fruit Basket

  • I relaxed a lot this weekend. The Hubby was busy on Sunday so we skipped the annual Easter festivities, and while I truly missed seeing family, I took advantage of the opportunity to unwind. One thing I have gleaned over the years is you have to give yourself some time to chill, especially you type A personalities (not that I would know anything about those (scoff, scoff). Take it from me. I am older, therefore I am way wiser, although certainly not more mature.

Polished-Knob

That’s it from little old me, but I want to hear from you. Link up and let me know what you did in the last seven days. Bonus points for those who put it in list form. If you use an excel spreadsheet or a fancy chart, I just may have to propose. Hey, you could do worse. I’m a decent cook, I like long walks on the beach, doing “things” in the park, baking and kitchen dance parties. I’m also slightly obsessed with Game of Thrones.

What did you accomplish in the last seven days? Do you ever schedule some unwind or relax time for yourself?

BAM is right! Two snaps and an exploding glitter bomb from me.
Yep, Mr. Bunny took pretty good care of me this year. Fruit and chocolate; life is good once more.

I’m sure I should know where that line comes from, but alas I do not. My brother sometimes is bald though, but a pinky ring…hmmm.

Haha! I love the song! Music totally pumps me up. It’s hard to be sad when you’re shakin’ your head and tappin’ your foot. I’m going to TRY to link up this week!! 😀

I was supposed to do a Tough Mudder (I thought it was only an English thing – I guess not!), but I was worried I couldn’t get my knee in working shape in time 🙁
I’ll look forward to reading about yours!

I know. I love using music to cheer me up because it’s so damn effective.
My knee has always been an issue when it comes to running so typically I just don’t run. But, I’m hoping if I train through it, it will become a non-issue or at least I’ll be able to complete the Mudder without having to limp for days after. Fingers crossed….

I love your Week in Review, Meghan. I started the Blogging A to Z challenge today so I’ll join in with the review in May. Promise Promise, unless of course I can figure out a way to work it in to the challenge. Have a great day!

Well I do leave the link up open all week, so you don’t have to do it on Monday. You could do it tomorrow, for example. No pressure though, and have a lovely day, Fran.

Yes! Chill time is so super important, and it’s even better when you do it in your sweats/yoga pants and involve a glass of vino.
Thanks for linking up too. I heart you.

Aw I loved the intro to this! You’re so positive and funny! Gorgeous flowers! I wish I had more of a green thumb but I’m not very talented with plants. Congrats on the running and the spinning!! I’m sorry your week wasn’t spectacular last week, but this list makes it seem like it must have at least been alright! You did a LOT!

By the way, I also am obsessed with GOT and used an excel spreadsheet for my week in review. ;] Did you read the GOT books?! I personally like the HBO series better than the books (a first for me… usually prefer books to TV/movies) but they’re still quite interesting reads. Just slow.

I’ve read books one through three so far, and they’re a great read, but they take forever. Like it’s embarrassing how long it took me to finish book three. I also know why you like the HBO series better. It’s all the nudity. You can admit it; I understand.

That’s what I love about these Week In Review lists. After work being so crazy, I felt like I didn’t do anything with my free time, other than decompress. Then I start working on this, and I’m like damn, I didn’t do too badly. This is absolutely my new favorite list, and THANK YOU for linking up. I love it.

And dude, it’s 40 something here and I’m like “oh, hey, it’s warm here!” What the hell? I hate Chicago weather. I want to go back to Florida!

Welcome home honey. I hope you got to watch Game of Thrones last night. If not, you need to get on that stat!!
I can totally relate on the weather front; 50 felt balmy to me, although maybe not after a Florida trip. I can’t wait to hear all about it and see the pictures.

A large chunk of my time on the computer is spent reading blogs too! I’m not sure whether that is good or bad, but I’ll take it over Facebook or Twitter any day!

Proud of myself for recognizing that character from Austin Powers… But I have to admit that I’ve never seen any of them in their entirety 😛

Edible Arrangements are awesome! Your Easter Bunny is cooler (just as cool?) as mine! 🙂 Haha.

I’ve only ever had an edible arrangement once before and this was totally unexpected so it was a really nice surprise.
It’s crazy how much time disappears while I’m just blog reading. I’m behind right now so I can only image the amount of time it will take me to catch up.
The Austin Powers were good, especially the first and the second. Glad you knew the reference.

Whoa ho, busy woman! Can I borrow a bit of that energizer bunny energy? Hmm, it must be the Smoo-Mosa… 😉

And um, for the record blog reading DEFINITELY earns a spot as it’s very own bullet mark…I’m right there with ya…as I take HOURS today to catch up from over the weekend! I totally cringed at that snow pic…but wow, your flowers are absolutely GORGEOUS! Wish I didn’t have such a black thumb! A couple of weeks ago, I managed to finally kill off my aloe plant! Those things are supposedly indestructible…WHO kills an aloe plant?!

Amen to the chill time! I managed to get myself out of the house this weekend for Saturday night and Sunday, but even though I had an opportunity to go out tonight, I just knew it would put me a little over the edge. I’m still Miss Hobblely so I don’t want to do too much too soon. And really, is it bad that sometimes I just want to stay at home, lounging in my sweats, while catching up on blogs?

Aloe plants are hard to kill, but I did it too, so no worries. I love flowers and all things gardening, and I can’t wait for the rest of them to pop up and open. Spring might just be my favorite time of year.
I’m glad you managed to get out for a few nights, but even more impressed you knew when to stop and take it easy. There’s nothing wrong with lounging in sweats while catching up on blog reading, so long as there is a smoo-mosa in hand as well. Or maybe Artic Zero.

I cannot believe you’ve got snow and crocuses. We had the snow, but the crocuses are still not blooming. It’s shocking to me, actually. For Easter (no edible arrangements though that looks so yummy) we hide clues to locate the basket (levels the playing field in this house) and I was reading through last years clues and realized that we had volunteer tomatoes growing in the garden by this time last year. Crazy.

My Map My Walk summary is this: it was snowy, I felt lousy, so I walked less.
However, the stats aren’t too shabby:
    8 workouts
    18.1 miles
    5.1 hours.

Off to dance. Well, no, I’m off to read 20 bazillion more blogs and then dance.

8 workouts in 7 days. Yeah, I’m impressed. Not too shabby my ass.
I love your Easter scavenger hunt. It sounds like such fun.
We have crocuses and daffodils (not) springing up everywhere, yet we keep getting morning flurries. I’m not sure how my flowers are surviving.
