Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
We did a ton of stuff last week, and it turns out I mostly took pictures of the food. You’re welcome.
Let’s get listing:
On Monday, we had the Hubby’s uncle in town, so we went out to eat for breakfast and dinner. Double the food, double the fun.
(The Elote Mexican Street Corn Hash, so beneath those eggs is a pile of potatoes and corn.)
(Avocado Caprese Salad from Hecks)
(Buffalo Cauliflower from Hecks)
We squeezed in another trip to the aquarium. I’m partial to the sharks; no surprise there. Fun fact: when we play with Ave’s aquatic bath toys, we hum the Jaws theme song. She loves it. Granted, she has no idea what we’re singing.
(I’m impressed and never want to experience this.)
We went to Crocker Park one afternoon for their Safari party for kids. It was mostly an overcrowded mess. Ave was disappointed there were no monkeys, and I was irritated the adults wouldn’t sit down in front of us, so the kids could actually see the Jungle Terry show. Believe me, I asked, and I’m just grateful it didn’t turn ugly.
Of course we did our usual things, playground visits and bike rides. We also ran our typical errands, going to the grocery store and Breadsmith multiple times, and we rounded it all out with a visit to Pet Supplies Plus because Oscar needs to eat too.
(Ave recently discovered the wonders of Peppa Pig and wants to live in this shirt.)
We tried to go strawberry picking, but missed out on the season, so we did the next best thing: bought all the strawberries instead. In a heroic effort of will power, I managed to clean and freeze more than half of these beauteous babies.
Thanks to our CSA and having a fridge stocked full with veggies, I ate my body weight in green things. My mother, who visited for the weekend, joined me in my quest to ingest all the fiber. It’s a rootin’ tootin’ good time around these parts; literally.
(Kale salad with cherries, feta, and candied walnuts.)
(Fried eggs and sauteed broccoli with spring green onions and garlic scapes.)
(Green leaf lettuce with green onions, hard boiled eggs, avocado, chickpeas, tomatoes, blue cheese and bacon bits.)
(Fried eggs, rye toast and Swiss chard with bacon.)
(Spinach salad with dates, bacon, chickpeas, spring onions and mild cheddar.)
We finished off the week with a visit to one my favorite brunch spots, Sweet Melissa, mainly so I could get a blood orange mimosa or two.
Oh and for the record, I continued my quest of self care, including some alone time and a holy shitton of exercise (hello running, ellipticalling, and spinning, oh my!).
The true highlight of the week though was switching Ave to a toddler bed. After a few failed attempts to scale her crib walls, we knew it was only a matter of time before she sought out sleeping freedom.
(Sorry this picture is so blurry. I literally took it while Ave was standing on me, and it shows.)
Thankfully, she can’t work the doorknob in order to get out of her actual bedroom….yet.
It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What is something you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.
Cora says
Your breakfasts are on pooinnnnnttttt miss. Damn you have inspired me to start having half plates of sautéed veggies with my eggs. I need some swiss chard. Yum. I also need this date bacon cheddar salad combo. Your mama and Uncle in law got spoiled!
Congrats on continuing to make the exercise, you time, and self care a priority. Fist pump to that.

The date bacon cheddar combo is on point. In fact, I was inspired by a local restaurant who offered something similar.

Yes, and it’s exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. I want to install a giant camera that spans her entire room. 🙂

Your salad looks absolutely delicious. Which one? Yes! (All of them.) I would probably trade the kale for arugula or spinach, though. In my mind, kale hasn’t quite made the jump from garnish to food.
So glad to read that you’re making time for exercise and “me time”.
Good luck with the toddler bed!

If you massage it ahead of time with some oil, kale becomes much more palatable.

That sweat looks mighty fine on you friend. The crib escape, however, might turn into a additional workout. You got this. Chase er down! LOL!
Meghan says
So far she hasn’t been able to figure out how to break out of her room, but I bet she gets it real soon. I’ll have to wear my running shoes at all times.

Lol on humming the Jaws theme song during bath time. It’ll be fun to tell our kids all these things we did to them/with them when they’re older. I had two (!) date nights with my husband last week – whaaat??! That’s not happened since before Squish was born.
Meghan says
TWO DATE NIGHTS!! That’s incredible. Go you momma!

Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
I still have a bag of frozen strawberries in my freezer from when we went picking last year. What do you tend to do with your frozen berries?
All your food looks glorious, especially all the glamorous greens and goodies from your CSA. Swiss chard and bacon = match made in heaven. And I’m so glad im not the only one out there who adds dates to salads. My favourite thing to do is stuff the dates with blue cheese, wrap in bacon, pop in oven until bacon is cooked and then chop up into a salad whilst still hot. Yum yum yummy!

Blue cheese stuffed dates are amazing so II’m sure the bacon would take them over the top.
I usually add the strawberries to smoothies in the winter or I defrost them and add them to baked goods or use them in my morning bowl of oatmeal.

Grandma Lala says
Why is it that other people’s salad always looks so delicious and my own just never do? Laziness, probably! Never having the right combination of ingredients at the same time too….that would take planning ahead, which I am not good at. But I will be dropping a fried egg and bacon bits (when I can wrangle a slice from my husband grip) onto my next one, thanks-for-that!
I love Aves shirt too, and dislike selfish rude adults who won’t allow little people to see a show!
Grandma Lala says
Also, with the most diffult puppy breed to raise, I am craving some ‘me time” myself! I so glad though that you’re seeing the value! So import for moms! (and puppy raisers)
Meghan says
Of course you ended up with the most difficult puppy breed. Isn’t that how it just works out sometimes. Hopefully it’s getting a little better and if not, it will be soon once he/she learns to master the basics.
My salads are almost always born out of the bits and bobs in the fridge. Rarely ever do I have a plan.

you know how they say you shouldn’t shop when you’re hungry? well i disagree but that’s not the point. i say reading your blog when you’re hungry is dangerous. in a good way. i’m hungry and now i’m hangry reading this and seeing all the yummies! congrats on the toddler bed! we did our but her bed is in our room so who cares LOL
Meghan says
I want to install cameras that span her entire room so I can see what she’s up to at all times. Control issues? Who me?

Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
This low key makes me feel bad about my total lack of greens lately. Plenty of toots though, as per usual.
I need one (or 5) of those mimosas.
Meghan says
Come to Cleveland, I’ll feed you greens. Tonight’s menu even involves kohlrabi.
The mimosas go without saying.

All that food!!! I am kind of jealous. Even though I am getting better at feeding us more veggies I am nowhere near I would like to be. Baby steps… I bet the CSA helps tons. I talked to a friend who is doing something similar in our area but she said it’s always like 90% different sorts of cabbage, kale… and I just can’t eat that without becoming a hot-air balloon it wouldn’t work for us :-/
Oh my god! Ave has a big girl bed! Haha and as she’s so smart she will figure out how to open that door in no time 😀 You should teach her how to feed Oscar breakfast 😉
