Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
Last week was weird. We had some amazing things going on and also a few less than boisterous bumps in the road. Hence, today’s title. Let me just say parenting a tiny human is one of the most rewarding experiences, but damned if it isn’t a holy crapton of work, with some days being far more challenging than others.
Case in point: Ave bit me. In anger. It took every ounce of my will power to not lose my shit and remember she’s only two years old. Hashtag real life parenting.
The tiny dictator is working on her last molar and this final tooth is proving to be a real bastard, and a biter apparently. Please send wine, lots and lots of wine. Also maybe a rabies vaccination.
My in-laws were on vacation, and while this was certainly a high for them, Ave and I missed them a lot. Not only are they the kindest and most amazing people, but they also watch Ave every Monday and Thursday so I can be productive or lay horizontal on the couch if need be. This would have been a horizontal week had they been home.
Needless to say, we were both super excited to pick them up from the airport yesterday.
Thankfully, my mother came to stay with us for a few days, which was a huge help. When they say it takes a village to raise a tiny human, they mean it.
(We need to work on our selfie game.)
On Saturday, we absconded from the tiny human (i.e. she hung out with the Hubby), and hit up the annual Cleveland garlic festival. We came, we saw, and we left very, very stinky. I have no regrets.
(Garlic fries with garlic aioli.)
We also visited Prayers for Maria (the sunflower fields), this time with the tiny human in tow. Much like the entire week, her reaction was a mixed bag. One minute, Ave loved it, and the next, she was clinging to my torso like the hounds of hell were after her.
It wasn’t all hiccups and hardships though. We made chili, went grocery shopping and had a couple of play dates, including one with the bestie.
(Besties don’t shake hands; besties gotta hug.)
The highlight of the week though was announcing my granola is officially for sale at The West Side Market, stand 75 for Maple Valley Sugarbush. To say I’m excited would be an understatement. This is a dream come true, one I didn’t even know I had. Now please do me a huge favor and go buy some, and by some, I mean lots. Momma’s got rabies vaccinations to pay for.
(Introducing City Hippie Granola.)
Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What is something you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.

Like I had needed any more reason to come visit you in Cleveland… those sunflower fields!! Oh my gosh. Speaking of dreams we didn’t know we had. I think I have a dream to stroll through a real sunflower field like that. Other reason is to purchase your granola. I know I’ve said it but I’m so damn excited for you.
Now – I do hope this week is a little more smooth sailing for you and little Ave. Wanna know a secret? Last week when my niece was visiting, she was sticking her finger near my face (she’s in that phase) and I didn’t realize it was in my mouth (of course my mouth was open)… and I chomped down and bit her!! She cried soooooo hard. I felt beyond awful. So – Ave and I have something in common I guess. 🙁
Meghan says
The do the sunflower field every year as a way to raise money to help fight childhood brain tumors. It’s beautiful, uplifting and sad all at the same time.
The good thing about tiny humans is they forgive really quickly.

I think I did well having only one biter. And when I yelped in surprised shock and pain, it scared my little imp so badly that it never happened again. Hopefully Ave will have had the same reaction. If you held your stuff together after that, rather than meeting Ave at her own two year old level, then you’ve proven your worthiness as a mom!
Toddlers, such wonderful, amazing little intrusive beings! These are only a few of the reasons we are complete in dark before we have them! If we knew, would we at all? Yes we would, cause lots of us go on to have have several more.
Good job, Mamma! I love your obvious glee in when you spoke of pick up Aves grandparents at the airport. Self care is important part of sanity, lol!
Meghan says
Thank you for acknowledging how difficult it is to keep our stuff together and not drop down to Ave’s two year old level. It really means a lot, especially because I was hanging on by a thread.

Oh my goodness congrats on the huge achievement!! All about the silver linings, lady, and before long, her teeth will be a bit softer. I know it always sucks when someone you love so much and care for so much hurts you in some way (totally not the same thing but this reminded me of when my sweet puppy once bit me so hard I bled and I couldn’t stop crying from the sheer INJUSTICE of it all.) But she’s a sweetheart and I’m sure there are other moments every day that make all the biting in the world feel like no big deal.

Your chili looks delicious (but apparently you look more delicious to Ave)! Love the pic of you and your mom. You (and she) are so lucky to have both sets of grandparents available and willing to hand out with the toddler. My kids’ memories of their grandparents are wonderful.
Congratulations to you and your new business. The City Hippie blurb is perfect. You must be a writer! 🙂

I’m beyond grateful Ave is forming so many wonderful memories with her grandparents. I have such amazing memories with mine and the fact she is getting the same opportunity is such a lucky thing.

You are a saint. I would have lost my shit if my kid bit me in anger. At least I think I would… Maybe rising calm and patience levels come with being a parent! I’m sure they do.
I am so pleased for you that your granola is now on sale! I would be buying for sure if I could, you know I would. David would love eating granola for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Ha!
And the garlic festival… Heaven. In that cookbook I bought last week there is a whole chapter on garlic. An ode to garlic if you will. I want to make everything and revel in its garlicky-ness!
Meghan says
An ode to garlic sounds like a wonderful idea. You would have loved this festival. So many tasty garlicky things.
I held it together by a tiny, tiny thread after Ave bit me, and I almost launched her across the room just as a knee jerk guttural reaction.

So exciting about your business!!!! Way to go!!!! I love your business name and logo too. Can’t wait to hear more about your journey with this. Before I had Squish, I had an organic catering business so this is near and dear to my heart ❤
Meghan says
Thank you! I’m excited to see where this leads too…hopefully to great things. Fingers crossed.
I’d love to hear more about your catering business in your former life. Will you start it up again?

Suchot says
I don’t think I’ll start it up again – not in the same way anyways. It was really full-on (like more than a full-time job) and it doesn’t really fit into my life with Squish right now. But I loved it and ran it for years. If you want to ever chat about your business or food businesses send me a pm! 🙂 I’m super excited for yours!
Meghan says
Thank you for the offer. I just may take you up on it.
I can understand not wanting to commit to that level of work with the youngin’. All too well. 🙂
Kaylee says
Yikes. Mentally sending wine your way.
A garlic fest?!! Count me in please!
Congrats again on the granola. Wishing I could be tasting some of that right now.

Aw thank you. I really appreciate the support. Blows kiss with a side of craft beer and heavy metal music.
