Week In Review: The Link Up Party Edition

October 19, 2015 by Meghan 50 Comments

I hope you’ve got your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

Week In Review Button Final

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back.

Need more details? Head here.

At Home and At Work Lists

In the meantime, let’s get listing:

  • The absolute highlight of my week was hosting my favorite Spoon for a handful of days. She was a hit with the whole household, minus my one fluffy kitty, who likes no one except me. Oscar gave her two paws up, and the Hubby said we should keep her.
Meg and Amanda in front of a Waterfall

Note: since Amanda was here Wednesday to Sunday, my Week in Review is a recounting of our activities.
  • We went hiking.
Brandywine Falls Hiking
  • We traversed treacherous terrain.
Meg Hiking
  • We leapt entire streams in a single bound.
Amanda Spoons crossing the stream
Stream while Hiking Water
  • And we only fell once. Alright fine, I only fell once and now have two lovely bruises to show for it.
  • We walked.
Amanda Spoons and Meg Sneakers
  • We talked.
  • And we held a photo shoot in a windstorm because that’s not at all awkward.
Meg and Amanda Windstorm
Meg and Amanda Spoons Windstorm
Meg and Amanda Spoons in a Windstorm
  • We indulged our inner book worms with a trip to the local library.
Library Books
  • We lounged fireside more than once.
Meg and Amanda Spoons Fireside
  • And we puzzled, quite literally.
Super Mario Galaxy Puzzle
Kinkaid Puzzle
  • We made granola. Banana Bread Granola to be exact.
Banana Date Walnut Granola
  • We ate an obscene amount of Chipotle.
Chipotle Burrito
  • And we also inhaled a boatload of greens, sectional salad style.
Sectional Salad
All told, we had a super chill, food filled, fabulous few days.

    October 19, 2015 at 11:36 AM

    Since I post recipes and not . . . non-recipes, I will provide by WIR in the form of . . . . a comment.
First, 3 things I accomplished yesterday:
    1. I developed a new method to store my frozen pesto, one that should keep each individual lump free of ice crystals while simultaneously allowing me to only defrost the amount that I need.
    2. I pulled all of my pepper plants that were heading into frost damage territory and removed a bountiful pile of peppers. I gave a few to my neighbors and dropped the rest at the Foodbank this morning.
    3. I nagged my kids into cleaning the stove, then, while they were both off doing Good Works, I tweaked their efforts so that the stove was pretty darn clean. Then, sadly, we utterly trashed it when the Ikea bag in the freezer turned out NOT to be meatballs and we had to scurry at the last minute to find a meat to satisfy my daughter, as she didn’t want gravy, potatoes, green beans and . . . Swedish pancakes.

    Next–the week.
    1. I made chili powder. Yes, this Little Red Hen grew the peppers (and got more from the farm share), dried the peppers, ground the peppers, and made her own effing chili powder. Shazam.
    2. I put up a whole bunch of stuff.
    3. I chose NOT to put up ALL THE THINGS and instead to enjoy the last of the tomatoes in daily BLTs.
    4. I survived another week of flying solo.

    Have a lovely one, Meg!

Can you send your kids this way. My stove needs a good scrubbing too. Also, do tell about the new pesto freezing method.

Daily BLT’s are the way to go with those last homegrown tomatoes.

Flying solo ain’t easy, even if you are an old pro at it. Job well done.
