Currently: November 2015

November 20, 2015 by Meghan 31 Comments

One of the things I love about these Currently posts, besides catching all of you up on my life because clearly you’re dying to know what’s happening in my so very exciting world (cough, cough), is I get to skip an introduction.

I know, I know, intros are typically my bread and butter, but I’m wordy enough without tossing a bunch of Currently questions into the mix. So without further ado, let’s get our Current on.

Current Book: I’m nearly done with Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, and it’s definitely picked up steam. Let’s just say at 90% complete, I’m fully invested.

Outlander

Current Music: lots of old school hip-hop. Think DMX, Cypress Hill, Dr. Dre and Eminem. I’m pretty sure the tiny human has a thing for gangsta rap. I can relate, and of course I follow it up with some Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens. #balance

Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: ice cream

Ben & Jerry's The Tonight Dough

Current Confession: this was my first Ben & Jerry’s consumption in a long time, and I didn’t love it as much as I remember. It tasted a bit like lies and deceit, which of course didn’t actually stop me from consuming it. The moral of the story: I’ll be sticking to The Sweet Spot in the future.

Pistachio Gelato

Current Drink: smoothies, specifically this Peanut Butter Chocolate Smoothie to be exact.

Chocolate Date Smoothie

Current Food: sweet potatoes, because thanks to my CSA I’ve got a basement full of them.

Sweet Potatoes

Current Obsession: the combination of pears, blue cheese and walnuts, all atop a 34 Degrees Crisp. It’s a super simple, yet fancy sounding appetizer perfect for the upcoming holiday season. Seriously, serve this and your guests will go gaga.

With only four ingredients, this is a super simple, yet fancy sounding and crowd pleasing appetizer perfect for the upcoming holiday season. Pear slices, a dollop of blue cheese and a candied walnut all atop a Natural crisp. #thanksgiving #Christmas #thanksgivingappetizer #holidayappetizer

Current Excitement: I’ve got a visitor coming to Cleveland all the way from Germany.  My girl Juli from 1000 Lovely Things will be here in T minus two days with another friend in tow. To say I’m excited would be  an understatement.

Juli 1000 Lovely Things

Current Wish List: to be released back into the wild or at least my gym. It’s been months and my muscles are withering away. My boobs are still growing though, so there’s that.

Body Pump Class

Current Bane of Existence: my job. Accounting at year-end is intense, high stress, lots of pressure and far too many hours.

fiscal-year-end-is-awesome-said-no-accounting-manager-ever-1ad61

(source)

Current Blessing: the fantastic team of people working in the department. They’re my saving grace.
Current Indulgence: rocking my new arm warmers every chance I get.

Arm Warmers

Current Epiphany: I discovered at a recent Vitamix demonstration, you should never put frozen fruit or ice into the blender first when making smoothies because it’s rough on the motor. Lesson learned.

Current Needs: someone to come and clean my house. It’s a disaster since I’ve chosen naps over most anything and everything productive, outside the office that is. Also, disaster might be a stretch even though it feels that way in my mind.

HouseClean

Current Triumphs: I cooked dinner three nights this week, which for me lately is huge. Yes, I am counting making a kale salad as cooking. Don’t take this from me.

Current Thankfulness: all of you. Each time one of you makes my recipes and let’s me know about it, I get a shiver of delight and a smile of satisfaction. THANK YOU. Last week’s recipe recreations included my Chipotle Style Brown Rice Burrito Bowl and my Savory Parmesan Mashed Sweet Potatoes. Success!!

Chipotle Style Burrito Bowl B

Savory Parmesan Mashed Sweet Potatoes. You want these on your table for Thanksgiving. You want these on your table for Christmas. You want these on your table, period. #thanksgiving #christmas #sweetpotatoes #healthy

Current Fear: public speaking. It terrifies me, and I just found out I’ll likely be giving a presentation at work, in the very near future. God help me.

Current Laughs: now that is some impressive tea. In the interest of full disclosure, I had a breakthrough at work moments after drinking it. Raises eyebrow suggestively.

Fucking Impressive Tea

Current Links: nothing, not a damn thing, in an attempt to stay incredibly focused so I can complete this post. It’s working too.

Current Mood: grateful it’s Friday and super excited for my upcoming visitors.

Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession? Current mood?

Pregnancy definitely means trading muscles for boobs – I wasn’t sad about that at all šŸ™‚ And the fact that you mentioned Bob Dylan in a post confirms why I love you! Currently I’m doing last minute homework checks, eating, and rocking undone curly hair.

I told you Outlander got better! So glad you stuck it out. The second book is really good too.

I’m currently obsessed with Gilmore Girls. I never watched it when it was on TV, but now I’m stuck in a never-ending Netflix marathon that just won’t quit. I love it.

It did get better….so much better and now I’m officially hooked. I literally finished book one this morning, and wow! What an ending.

Yes, yes, yes to the Gilmore Girls. They’re my favorite. I adore them and their quirky, yet impressive especially for the spur of the moment, dialogue.

You’re welcome. The frozen fruit ice in the blender thing totally rocked my world too.

Uhm… yes I’d like some of that magic tea. Hook a girl up! Instead, I’m sipping on plain Jane apple cinnamon tea and doing a little bit of blog/work planning for the upcoming few weeks… which is also my current obsession. I know you get it, lady. It feels all sorts of awesome to not feel behind in everything, but I think I’m just fooling myself and that shit will hit the fan very soon…

I love that the baby loves hip hop. I’m sure he/she will grow up with wonderfully eclectic music tastes, just like Mama (btw, autocorrect wanted “tastes” to be “tatas” so I guess it picked up on your growing chest.)

Currently, I am continuing the job searching and interviewing process (sigh) and willing a breakthrough from the universe. I’m also looking forward to heading home next week for some QT with the fam.

Current food obsession: caramel sea salt coconut chips! They add the best crunch to yogurts and oatmeal. I’ma huge ice cream lover, but Ben and Jerry’s doesn’t do it for me either. I prefer more creamy tastes šŸ™‚ I love that sweet potato picture – can never get enough of those!

Caramel anything is divine and then you toss sea salt into the mixture, and I’m basically putty in your hands.

Yeah, I was deeply disappointed in the Ben & Jerry’s. It tasted fake or chemically to me. Oh well, lesson learned.

Once upon a time I worked at a smoothie shop, and I learned this is the best order of operations: liquids first, then fresh fruits/veggies, add ins like powders, THEN lastly frozen. It made for the best consistency.

Don’t be nervous about public speaking! Just be your bad, bossy self and you’ll do great! šŸ˜‰ I used to be scared of public speaking and now it’s pretty much my job (although it’s to classes of 10-12 people so it’s not THAT public I guess). I just try to approach it in a more casual way so that it doesn’t seem so intimidating, you know?

Ahhh, I’ve been wanting to read the Outlander series for a while now. I actually stumbled over it at the library one day, but chickened out once I realized how big the books were (and how MANY of them there were). Now that I’ve tackled two Game of Thrones books though, I think I could do it…AFTER I finish these anyway.

Too funny, we were just talking about Ben & Jerry’s at work last night. I’ve thought about trying that one now that dairy is a bit more forgiving, but I’m never in the mood for it when I’m at the store. lol. Love your little cheese and cracker spread. That is one gorgeous pic, m’dear! I’ve thought about getting some leg warmers, but I didn’t even know they made arm warmers. Maybe I should get both and make myself a little sweater onesie. Lol

I think a little sweater onesie is a great idea… for you of course. Then we can have an 80’s dance off party.

I really did like the Outlander book but it took forever to get going and now I’m faced with a zillion giant books to read. I finished it last weekend and am taking a break and onto Jodi Piccoult now.
