Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back.
Need more details? Head here. ♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
- Despite having not one, but two doctors appointments last week, I managed to work forty fairly intense hours on the job. It was a tough week.
- As a result, I spent my weekday evenings horizontal on the couch. No shame in my game.
- I published three blog posts, including a bump update, like no other: The Second Trimester: What To Expect When You Weren’t Expecting to be Expecting.
- We celebrated the Hubby’s birthday with friends on Friday night at Villa Y Zapata, one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. ♫ Red beans and rice didn’t miss her. ♫ Their veggie burritos make me happy.
- I made the Hubby the most decadent chocolate layer cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, from scratch of course. On the rare occasion I make a cake, I like to go all in.
- We had my dad and stepmom spend the weekend with us. Hooray for family visits and Hubbys who clean the house while I make cake.
- We started with a simple lunch on Saturday: a massaged kale salad with hard boiled eggs, white beans, walnuts and a Garlicky Chipotle Dressing, paired with a Baked Potato Bar for the win.
- We headed to my happy place, the Cleveland Botanical Gardens for the start of Orchid Mania. I could, and did, take pictures of flowers for hours. They were stunning.
- We went out for the Hubby’s birthday again on Saturday night, this time to Forage Public House, home of the Vegan Mac and Cheese which makes my dairy loving heart have second thoughts. As expected, the food was phenomenal and the company lovely.
The Hubby and I have eaten here numerous times since the summer and it’s definitely a fan favorite. The fact they source ingredients from local Ohio farms is simply icing on the cake.
- We took advantage of the unseasonable warm weather and hit up the local park on both Saturday and Sunday. It felt fantastic to stretch my legs.
- We concluded our family weekend with breakfast at the house on Sunday morning: fresh fruit, Breadsmith’s Orange Cranberry Dessert Bread, cheddar scrambled eggs, garlic roasted asparagus and for mocktails: Tropical Orange Smoothies.
- After my family hit the road to Buffalo, I headed back to bed for a long nap.
- I spent the better part of Sunday evening getting ready for the week, the month, and today’s blog post. There might have been some leftover cake involved too.
Your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week?

I don’t even know where to begin with your pictures – between the food and flowers they’re all incredible! The frosting on the chocolate cake looks dreamy – that might be my favorite picture in the post. A bit jealous of your week – I can’t lie!

I liked the baking snap chats, especially considering half the cake stayed in the pan. Ha! It did all work out and with frosting no one was the wiser.

I do a cake from scratch about once a year. I find it therapeutic and I actually think they’re much easier to make than most people realize.

I can only imagine how wonderful it must have felt to get out and stretch your legs – both in the botanical gardens and just outside in the warm weather. I’m glad you got some natural beauty in your week. There really is nothing better for the soul. Or for someone who’s pregnant.
Ps. You have the most classy family meals. Always so beautiful.

Those orchids are stunning! I am hoping this unseasonable weather on the east coast lasts through the spring. I’m moving to Boston in a few weeks and apparently today it will be the same temperature there as it is here in San Diego! Crazy! Hope you have a good week Meghan!

Hi Meghan! It’s safe to say that I should spend more time baking cakes. Wow. Looks good. I started a new job last week and worked way more than 40 hours while on a work trip the first week. I also collapsed on Friday when I got home. Here’s to another big week! Happy Monday, Meghan! 🙂

I read your post the other day about your second trimester. My hubby and I are trying for a baby. So, as I was reading your post, I must have had a ridiculously terrified facial expression because he was like, “what the hell are you looking at?!” I just turned to him and said, “I wish you could carry a baby instead” haha. Of course, I don’t mean that, but I haven’t heard many people tell such details of the side effects of pregnancy before. Thanks for keeping it real! 😉
Meghan says
The book Girlfriend’s Guide to Pregnancy keeps it pretty real too, and I’ve found great comfort in it because most pregnancy posts don’t talk about these, shall we say “issues.” Good luck with trying. I wish you and your hubby the best.

Love! You little cake baking minx you. Wow the botanical garden looks phenomenal! I love all the pics. I can’t get enough gorgeous floral and food pics. We even did the garden tour at Alcatraz. Did you know they have beautiful gardens and have a head mulch guy? So fascinating. You’d like it. I loved it and have brown thumbs. I’m hoping they turn greener after the baby arrives..

Where were you on my birthday when I needed some epic chocolate cake baking skills?!?! 😛 Rain cheque for next year? 😛 And how pretty are all those flowers? I have the WORST brown (or black?) thumb, but somehow my orchid is still hanging on a month after I go it. That’s my biggest accomplishment this week 😆

When did we say we’d meet to take pictures of flowers for hours [oh, you know how much my rhyme-lovin’ heart likes this], eat vegan and/or cheesy mac and cheese and get the list-writing on? That sounds like my kind of weekend.
The Botanical Garden would be my happy place. Also, you look stunning with the black dress and bump. It’s a match made in heaven or so they’d say, no?

Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
I love orchids but I never buy them for my home because I always kill them… Maybe that might change now I’m in a new climate…!
The cheese on those burritos makes me so happy, then hungry. And the vegan Mac and cheese, although sounds wrong I bet is so right! I adore meat but some of my favourite eats here in Perth are actually vegan – done right, they sure can get flavour on point!
Oh and love the bump pic of you at the top – the perfect bump pic for your personality!

Hey, where was my cake? =P Those flower photos are awesome, except for the purplish one that looks like it has an alien or demon in the middle. Creepy. *shivers*
Meghan says
There were a few orchids with some alien-esque qualities. It merely increased my infatuation with them, although I’m not sure what this says about me. Hmm. Better not to answer that.

that cake you made looks gorgeous AND delicious! honestly… it’s probably the fruit garnish that puts it over the edge for me 😀 hah. but the layers! <3
and i love forage, but SO need to go back for that Mac! I went there once and was SO close to gettting it but it was too heavy (so i got a LOT of food, salad, some type of soup and grilled veggies or asparagus or something).
Meghan says
You should have tried the Mac and Cheese. It’s not heavy at all. In fact, the Balsamic drizzle makes it quite refreshing. It probably would have been lighter than a whole ton of food. 🙂
