I’m skipping an introduction today mainly because I don’t have one. Plus, these Currently posts are already long enough without me spewing a bunch of words to kick them off.
Without further ado:
Current Book: I’m reading Drums of Autumn, the fourth book in the Outlander series right now, although I recently polished off Life From Scratch, a Memoir of Food, Family and Forgiveness by Sasha Martin and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Quick and enjoyable reads, I’d highly recommend both.
Current Triumphs: along with my family, completing this 1,000 piece puzzle at the beach last week. I wasn’t sure it’d happen since Ave takes up most of my time these days, but we managed to get it done.
Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: you scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream…on a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie because chipwiches yo’.
Current Indulgence: sleep. I’m actually getting some again, including a handful of seven hour stretches which is beyond glorious.
Current Drink: Beet Juice Smoothies because I’m all about that [beet], bout that [beet], no treble. Yes, I know this song is so 2014. Sue me, although not really because that would suck.
Current Food: thanks to my CSA, I’m eating my weight in salads this summer, and I’ve got a crazy good flavor combo coming your way soon.
Current Bane of Existence: my veggie garden has been taken over by crabgrass; the bastards. I will not go gently into that good night mainly because I’m stubborn and a fan of Dylan Thomas’ poetry. My high school English teacher would be so proud.
Current Obsession: I can’t handle the cuteness.
Current Excitement: I resigned from my job of the past sixteen years. While I’m going to miss the people and the challenges, I’m super excited to have this time with Ave and figure out what comes next for me.
Current Confession: My melons are leaky, and I don’t mean the fruit.
Current Wish List: world peace. All this violence, hatred and exclusion hurts my heart.
Current Blessing: friends who pass on baby clothes. We got so many I could open a boutique. Instead I washed, sorted, and shared them with others.
Current Needs: motivation, which is sorely lacking these days. I have a bazillion projects I want to tackle and yet I find myself twiddling my thumbs whenever Ave is napping. What gives?
Current Thankfulness: I’m grateful this girl drove two plus hours to see little ol’ me, although truth be told, she might have come for the tiny human.
Current Fear: the rhubarb in my fridge will go bad before I have a chance to use it, and I really want to make this coffee cake.
Current Epiphany: Ave can only handle about one outing or major activity a day before she gets overstimulated so I try to keep the excitement to a minimum.
Current Laughs: Absolutely Fabulous. I’ve been watching the old episodes, and they do not disappoint.
Current Links: this billboard is just one of the reasons I love the city of Cleveland.
Current Mood: accomplished considering this is my second post this week, and it’s only Wednesday. Boom!
Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession? Current mood?
Is it weird to say congrats on leaving your job? I’m glad that you’ll have lots more time to spend with Ave.
Speaking of books, I too have been a reading fiend this summer. I just started It’s What I Do, which is a memoir of a female war photographer. Really good so far.
Not weird at all, and thank you. I’m excited to figure out what comes next, aside from the baby that is.. 🙂

OH MY GAWDD. Okay – the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society is one of my favorites ever – the audiobook is AMAZING if you ever want to re-read (re-listen?) to it. And I’m such a nut that I looked up the island and they have a yearly marathon AROUND the island and it is on my bucket list to participate in at some point. And then try to meet Dawsey. And spy on Isola if possible.
I just started the Isabel Dalhouse series by Alexander McCall Smith. I feel like you would like his books, if you haven’t tried them. Other equally amazing reads are ‘The Giant’s House’ by Elizabeth McCracken and ‘Tell the Wolves I’m Home’ by Carol Rifka Brunt. I WILL STOP NOW b/c I’m nerding out.
Love all your updates – yay for spending time with Ave and figuring how your next step. And for completing that puzzle…. I would have given up.
I LOVED the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. It was such a quick read and so captivating. I want to meet all the islanders too. I can’t believe there’s an actual marathon course there. If you run, I will cheer you on. We’ll drag Britt along too.
Adding the Isabel Dalhouse series to my list along with the other two. I could read all day, every day. #bookworm #ilikebigbooksandicannotlie

There is just so much stuff in this post to talk about!!! But the thing that sticks out at me the most is that you’re resigning from your job of 16 years!!! That is a HUGE deal. Congratulations, and I’m excited for what this means for you in the future.

It is huge. Help me figure out what comes next please. 🙂

Congratulations on your exciting news! I can see why you’d want to spend extra time with Ave – she’s pretty adorable. 😉 I’m trying to hold off on jumping straight into Book 5 after finishing Drums of Autumn. I know I’ll slightly regret it if I plow through them all and be left with a gaping hole when there are no more to read. 😉

I completely understand. I’ve been forcing myself to read at least one other book in between each Outlander novel. I loved the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. Check it out.
Crazy big news right? I need to figure out what comes next in addition to Ave though because #sanity. 🙂

Being home is pretty awesome when they’re little. I worked after Diana was born but once Emily came there was just no way I was going back. It’s a cool feeling! And yay chipwiches 🙂

Holy snap! Ave has more clothes than I do! Like I’m pretty sure I don’t even come close to that, but I have this habit of constantly going through my closet and giving things away because the clutter stresses me out. So there’s that. Also, I’m happy you left your job. I know the restlessness kind of kicks in when we feel like you’re lacking direction, but I also know how bad your job was wearing you down at times. Besides… I see bigger and better things for you 🙂

I just need to give myself a little time to work things out, although having a motivational buddy certainly isn’t hurting either.

I love your happy attitude and way of taking things in stride. I am a worry eart, a bundle of nerves, both things my mom assigned me very early on, and please know children do grow into the labels that we saddle them with. I was also called the happy, clownish, goofy one of us 7 kids and from that felt tremendous pressure to entertain unhappy family members when they were going through trauma, which there was loads of in our life. So even the great labels can become an overwhelming thing. Nuff do my life and lectures!
Ave is growing and looking so happy and what a little peach! Don’t be so hard on yourself, with the to-do list and lack of motivation Sweetgirl! You re just getting back up to speed physically but that says nothing bout those hormones that are still all over the place. One hint that they are still a little crazy is that you’re oozing milk all over the place! When they truly settle down, so will that. I found that’s how my body worked anyway, after nursing 4 wee ones for a year each. (Be careful when you stop btw, that’s how I landed the 3rd so darned close to the second!
This granny Lala, who has obsessed (a lifelong trait of min, obsessing and compulsions) over trying contacts instead of eyeglasses for years finally gave it a half heartedly shot! The thought of turning 60 next month with the promise more wrinkles, I saw that clock ticking and said what the H-E-double-hockey-sticks, it’s now or never! Well wouldn’t you know? I went on Monday and walked out with my new “mono vision” contacts in ( I have astigmatism and need one eye for close-cup, the other for distance) I’ve been wearing them all day since! Oh, and I bought some updated, retro looking black and aqua eyewear as an alternate, just in case! The updating was at the urging so of my 18 and 13 yo granddaughters. It is a milestone, for me, anyway. I, er…struggle monumentously with change. In fact, I m i g h t have a few issues…
I have been obsessing on any vegetable cooked on the grill. It’s fast, it’s no mess in the kitchen, and I prefer vegetables of all sorts over fruit anyway. I love the char even if is going to give me cancer! Heck, meat went out the door (for the most part) years ago, so I refuse to feel bad. When summer rolls around I stuff myself veget on the grill! A little char, a little salt and pepper, hardly any avocado or grape seed oil and a light drizzle of fig balsamic glaze to finish!
What have I have been reading? I usually stick with memoirs or stories based on a real family or happening or event. I just finished a book The Nightengale that I truly loved. It was about two sister living in Paris during the German occupation (their home was requested as they lips hated it) and how they dealt with it. Little food was available (also taken) and the whole town was on edge. The sisters handed the situation in opposite, stunning, and brave ways. I recommend it to anyone likes history, drama, and suspense.
Is there a way to email you privately at all, I have a posting question I don’t want to make an idiot of myself here to ask. It’s just that I am so new at this and don’t any of the rules and I worry so much about breaking them! Thanks.
Yes absolutely. Feel free to shoot me an email at megannmcc@aol.com. 🙂
It’s funny you mention the labels. I was just talking about that with the Hubby. I keep saying to Ave how cute she is, immediately followed by how smart, creative, passionate, driven, etc. because I don’t want to saddle her with any one label. I also think if you call a child wild, she’s going to be wild.
Congratulations on the new peepers. I say wear what works and is comfortable for you. Also, I’m right there with you on the grilled veggies. Summer is the perfect time for them.
Thanks for the book recommendation. I’ll add it to my list, and I’m looking forward to your email.

Can I just say how excited -I- am to read your current excitement?! It’s been topic of one of our first mails way back and it’s awesome to see you taking this step and starting off anew. For now, I hope you get to enjoy a lot of time with Ave and your family while figuring everything baby-related out. My sister has randomly mentioned some melon pain, too, so I hope it’ll ease off for both of you soon!
By the way: my current non-triumph is never sending you some of the quinoa crunch before summer. I was worried about it either getting sticky or the chocolate melting on the way the latter of which would now definitely happen. Facepalm.
Miss Polkadot recently posted…One Bowl Healthy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Thankfully I don’t have any pain, although I do have lots of liquid. I don’t even pump at all these days either.
No worries on the quinoa crunch. You can send me some in winter. 🙂

That Trump billboard though. Can I get a t-shirt? I keep thinking about you with all the RNC/protestor news.

Yep, job is done!!
We should make t-shirts out of that billboard. We can pass them out at gay pride parades everywhere, unless of course we end up moving to Canada.

That could be your new job! Count me in. But can we move to Italy. It’s warmer… and wine.

Absolutely, I’m down with Italy. We could visit Lucie easily or she could come stay with us.

Meg – Congratulations. Wow. I’m not too aware of your (past) job and how you were feeling about it, but I do know how much you worked (cough a lot cough ). So making this decision for you and your happiness, your family, and for creating all those amazing memories with Ave is the most kick ass thing you could do. Sure you may feel pretty whacky for a while, but I say give yourself all the time you need to think over whats next…. ain’t no rush in this thing called life.
In other news – I hate puzzles, so I commend you there. And I would also really like some coffee cake and have some rhubarb in my fridge…. done.
Cora recently posted…The Definition of “Something” (WIAW)
I think you’re right. I need to be patient with myself and adjust to my new normal before rushing to figure out what’s next.
I still need to tackle my rhubarb. Maybe today… cross your fingers for me.
I love puzzles and as soon as the Hubby is done studying for his boards, I’m taking over the dining room table so I can do another one.

Wow what an exciting chapter you have ahead of you! Resigning is scary but so exciting as the opportunities are endless! 🙂
Oh how I love Ab Fab!!!! I grew up watching that programme, actually I grew up watching so many awesome BBC comedies, our wit and humour is like no other! The film gets released in Aus at the end of the month and I can’t wait to see it!

Yep, I’ve got a whole new chapter on my horizon. I just don’t know what it looks like yet, although there’s plenty of time to figure it out.

Congratulations on closing one chapter and starting this next one. I’m so absolutely fabulously excited for you!!!
Ave is deliciously cute, I can’t believe how obsessed I am as well. I’ve become that mom that just talks about her poop and my boobs.
Well my currently is all things baby. What’s to come next I am not quite sure but excited nevertheless.

The beet juice evens out the ice cream and that’s some pretty amazing balance! You get bonus points. Plus sleep. You’re currently amazing. You know this right?

That chipwich looks amazing! And completely not a part of my efforts to cut WAY back on sugar for a while. Fruit just doesn’t call to me in the same way….And I love me some Dylan Thomas. I even have the first line of that poem tattooed on the inside of my left wrist as a personal reminder.
Misti recently posted…week in review: win some, lose some
That’s awesome about the tattoo. I’m a huge fan of Yeats too, although no connection with Dylan Thomas.
Oh wow a huge congrats on retiring- cheers to exciting things ahead, Meg!! That’s so awesome that you hung out with Chelsea- she’s still one of my fave bloggers to read even though she isn’t posting as much these days! And heck yes to chipwiches- it’s ALL about them this summer!!
