Week in Review: My Secret Lover Edition (#88)

June 19, 2017 by Meghan 47 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

I’ve been having an affair, an amorous relationship if you will.

With a former lover, one who has come back into my life suddenly and with a vengeance. In the interest of full closure, you should know the Hubby is on board with my new flame and even the tiny human is a fan. We’re one big kinky family.

Yes, I’ve renewed my relationship with food, which is not to say I wasn’t eating previously, but I’ve been cooking and creating a whole lot more, and instead of being overwhelmed or another thing to juggle with a baby on my hip, it’s been refreshing and quite lovely. As a result, I’ve decided to forego the tradition WIR and share the tasty vittles I’ve been consuming in the past few days.

Let’s get picturing.

(Scrambled Egg Breakfast Bowls with Ranchero Beans, Spicy Cheese, Green Onions, Avocado and Pico de Galla)

(Croissant, Almond Croissant and Lemon Blueberry Pop Tart from Butter Block)

Raspberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake

Raspberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake

(Strawberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake)

(Broccoli from OUR GARDEN! Squeal.)

Garlic roasted sweet potatoes, tangy blue cheese and protein packed chickpeas combine with massaged kale to make one super sassy and satisfying salad.(Roasted Sweet Potato Kale Salad)

(Latin Loaded Fries from Alley Cat)

(Green Salad with Chickpeas, Avocado, Blue Cheese, Green Onions, and Bell Pepper)

(Moroccan Carrots with Chickpeas and Raisins)

(Hard Boiled Egg Sandwich with Avocado, Swiss Cheese and Pesto with a side of Cherries)

(Veggie Burger, Fruit Salad and Pasta Salad)

(And of course my meals wouldn’t be complete, without a fancy cocktail.)

It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

You grew a whole head of BROCCOLI!?! You can grow anything. Babies included.

Its beautiful. So green and alien finger like! Your meals are always beautiful, creative and comforting. Is that carrot raisin recipe one of yours? I’m deeply intrigued.

Rhubarb can be really good, especially in baked goods. I also made a rhubarb strawberry crisp that was even better than the coffee cake, but alas no picture.

Whaaat? Garden envy! You’ve got broccoli already? That you grew? Why oh why didn’t I plant broccoli! I want broccoli from my very own garden. Now! I’ve got….chives. See? I am Thankful for chives.. Trying…

That scrambled egg breakfast bowl has me! For any meal of the day! And well, of course the coffee cake, a no-no in my world as a person with blood sugar that drops as low as in the 30’s if I’m not cautious. (Reactive hypoglycemia) Kinda ruins my fun in a big way and sometimes I play roulette. It can be done, if it is planned, rare, and really worth it, with proper combining of protein and fat after dallying, dappling, and dancing in the sugar fields, for about 48hrs follow up.

I am so happy your old natural rhythm and life balance is returning! With a new twist named Ave, of course! All signs are pointing to the end of the hardest part wrapping up! I love my food too and being in the kitchen constructing delicious and often simple foods is so rewarding! Good on ya!

Oh man, low blood sugar drops are nothing to mess with. They can be quite scary so I’m sorry you have to deal with that. The scrambled egg breakfast bowl is equally delicious so I think you should play it safe and stick with that. Truth be told, I prefer the egg bowl to the coffee cake. 🙂

Yum yum yum! I also fully support this renewed love affair 🙂 Based on these recent eats, I completely trust your judgment regarding food. So, I’m wondering if you could recommend a good restaurant in Cleveland for dinner. My husband and I are going to be in town on July 1 for the U2 concert. I’ve been scoping out restaurants and made a res at Bold Food & Drink. But, I’d love to hear a loacal’s perspective on good places to eat. Thanks for any help!

Hi Amanda. You made a great pick. I really like Bold. I’ve been there a couple of times and their sister restaurant in Lakewood is one of my favorites: same chef and owner and same food concept with locally sourced produce as much as possible, which makes my hippie heart happy. In fact, if you search Forage (their sister restaurant) on my blog, you’ll see some of the items I’ve ordered there.

In addition to Bold, which is on the west bank of the flats (new, revitalized, up and coming area), you and your husband should also check out East 4th street. Grab a drink on a patio; there’s a bunch of them. It’s a fun, vibrant area right by the Q, which is where I’m sure U2 will playing. If you’re staying longer than one day, let me know and I’d be happy to make more recommendations. I have a thing for food and love Cleveland.
