Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
I need a vacation from my non-vacation. It’s amazing what you accomplish when you don’t spend your days punching a time clock, although managing a tiny and teething dictator is no joke, especially in the summer when we’re doing all the things. This is my day job and night job and on-call job. You get the idea.
Let’s get listing:
We had not one, not two, but three separate play dates last week. Ave worked on sharing or not, and I got to catch up with some of my oldest and dearest friends.
We hit up the library a few times for general shenanigans and high jinks and of course our regular Baby and Me story time. We even managed to stay the entire session last week, which is more than I can say for the previous story time. I did mention the tiny human has been teething yes?
We went to the park and had a picnic dinner for the summer solstice celebration.
We enlisted grandma’s help and went on a farm tour, where we sampled homegrown strawberries and vanilla ice cream. We met a handful of horses, including a two day old colt, and went on a very bumpy pony cart ride through the farm fields. Despite being twelve times her size, Ave was smitten with the horses and tried to stick her finger up their noses.
The whole family went to Memphis Kiddie Park for the first time, and Ave got to try a handful of rides, all of which she went on solo. I’d love to tell you she had the time of her life, but she had no reaction whatsoever, which was amusing in and of itself. No excitement, no fear, no tears, no smiles. It was just another day for her.
I did a whole bunch of laundry, which may or may not still need to be folded, although I did put fresh sheets on the bed, and it was sweet bliss. Clean bedding is magical.
Speaking of which, I took a handful of very necessary naps, which is no surprise given our active schedule.
I went clothes shopping for the tiny human. Yellow is the in color right now on the toddler circuit.
I ran errands, I paid bills, I went to the grocery store and my beloved Breadsmith multiple times.
I spent Friday evening curled up with the Hubby sipping cocktails, eating pizza, and watching The Wire.
I wrote two blog posts, including this recipe for Moroccan Spiced Carrots, which has already been given a thumbs up by one of my favorite blog readers. Thanks Grandma Lala; you rock.
Last but not least, I tapped into our garden and CSA produce making broccoli mac and cheese, cauliflower potato kale soup, kohlrabi fritters, rhubarb blueberry crisp, and raspberry buttermilk pancakes. I also sauteed some Swiss chard and washed mountains of lettuce. Alright fine, it was one head of greens, but it was a really big head. That stuff expands.
It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.
Martha says
The pictures of Ave on the rides are so wonderful — she looks like she’s at a boring meeting in every single one of them.
Meghan says
Ave had the same expression the entire time we were there. My husband and I couldn’t stop laughing about it.

I’m slowly starting to appreciate just how fantastic naps are. Why did we protest them when we were little? Ave’s face is priceless. She looks unamused. And everything you’ve been whipping up looks delicious. Crisps and pancakes and soup…gimme.

I couldn’t get over Ave’s deadpan reaction. It was cracking me up.
We never appreciate naps when we’re little. Now though, I’m making up for lost time.

I love Ave’s deadpan face on the rides. She’s already too cool for school! Also, so happy you celebrated the summer solstice too! It’s me favorite random holiday to stay outside all day and eat all meals al fresco. P.S. Where did you get Ave’s swimsuit with the lemons? I want one for Cora!

They have a huge celebration in our local park for the summer solstice every year so I’m pretty sure this will be a tradition for us. 🙂
I got the swimsuit at Babies R Us, and the brand is Koala Kids.

OMG Memphis Kiddie Park! We went there all the time growing up, so many great memories. Ave does not look amused by much of it though, lol. Just wait until she’s a bit older. Happy Monday!

I’m hoping the next time we go she might enjoy it a little. At least she wasn’t afraid. 🙂

You are so incredible! Man, I loved Ave’s face on all those rides on your Instagram stories. SHE KILLS ME! That kid is priceless. It looks like you guys had a really great week! I love it! I’ve got a Week in Review ready to go up in a few hours!

Grandma Lala says
Haha! I’m thinking that Ave was ready for the ‘Adult coasters’ at Six Flags about 6 months ago and the kiddy rides she tolerated are simply the mandatory photo ops that every parent wants for the record. She was bored, but at least not to tears. Those are some great pics!
I have kohlrabi prepared in a lot of ways growing up, my dad loved growing the oddities when I was a young girl, but I have to say I’ve never had it fritterized. Pretty sure that we’d love it! I love it raw too, in a matchstick salad with a light creamy homemade mayo dressing. (In that I love homemade mayo!) it’s so refreshing! Drat, now I wish I’d put some in my garden.
Lucky Ave! I want to go cloths shopping with you! I love your youthful style, and it is obvious that you have a hard time saying no everything cute! I love the sunny hue of yellow for Ave too, but on me it’s not the best, I think I’d have to go with the pinkest outfit, the white with blue palms top, solid pink shorts. Yellow highlights the sallowness of my aging skin.
Meghan says
I have yet to try kohlrabi raw and I really need to change that. Perhaps we’ll get some more this week, and I can give it a go.
I couldn’t get over how cute the toddler clothes were. I’m obsessed with the little pattern shorts because they have all sorts of fruits and veggies on them: carrots, peas, lemons, cherries, etc.
My hubby and I kept cracking up watching her on the rides. We thought for sure she’s have some reaction. Nope, not our kid. Ha!

Those CSA veggies are shinyyyyy. I continue to die by her lack of enthusiasm on those rides, she is the best. Yellow on her will be adorable.
Meghan says
I can’t stop laughing of her deadpan reaction either. Like, what?

Nice work getting outside for so much fresh air! And seeing those cute yellow clothes has me convinced that it must be easier to shop for tiny girls than tiny boys. I’ve been registering and picking out clothes for our pending baby boy, and the girls’ section is way bigger hahah! 🙂 Happy Monday, Meghan!

We got so many clothes (new and hand me downs) that this is only my second or third time picking things out myself. It’s kind of fun, and I’m obsessed with her veggie pattered shorts.

Haha, I love how bored Ave looks. I’m amazed she did so well on the rides. My kids were much older before they’d go on a ride by themselves…maybe we should have tried when they were younger! Loving all of the yellow and summery colors in Ave’s clothes, but in the food too!

We had no idea how Ave would react but i never expected the complete deadpan look on EVERY ride. She was cracking us up.

I LOVE all the yellow. Yellow is one of my favorite super optimistic colors. And Ave is a pretty brave baby. I don’t know a lot of babies that would have been okay just riding those rides by themselves. 🙂 You’re a brave mama too.

The rides are only for little ones so I couldn’t have rode with her even if I wanted to. You had to be under 50 inches to go on them and we had no idea how she’d react, The non-reaction reaction cracked me up though.

Cora says
Bahahaha. Oh god. That girl. Just way too cool for any childish boat or plane, eh? Kids are a constant surprise for what will excite them. Maybe horse boogers are more her thingo.
She sure is being exposed to so many awesome experiences though. You guys keep her busy. Lucky girl! All your kitchen shenanigans with summer produce are giving me all the summer feels. I’d like those berry pancakes please.

The raspberry buttermilk pancakes were so good. I could eat those every week, if only raspberries were that fresh always.
Today Ave and I are laying low so we can rest and recharge. Alright maybe this is more for me, but whatever. It can’t hurt. We do this a couple days a week, especially if we’ve been super busy. Balance right?

Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I really want to know what Ave was thinking on those rides. Is she like “These people are all so stupid. This ride is slow AF.”? Or is she all “You think this is funny? Just wait until I get to choose your nursing home.”? My bet is on “This would be so much more fun if we had drinks.”

I know what you mean about lettuce expanding. I’m like, “Ah, I’ll make a couple of salads with this nice head of lettuce.” A couple salads later…”Why isn’t it disappearing?!”
I’ve never seen a kid so neutral about going on a ride. Maybe she knows she’s missing out on the roller coasters? lol

She did want to go on the roller coaster or at least she kept walking towards it. I wasn’t comfortable with her riding it though; too jerky.

I see I need to start browsing your recipe pages in preparation for our CSA. I’m always looking for something interesting to do with kohlrabi.
Ave’s deadpan is too funny…maybe the amusement park just couldn’t compete with the horses!

Oh yes, I’ve got lots of CSA recipes. In fact, I’m hoping to use my Bok Choy on a pizza later today. 🙂

Oh Meg I love Ave’s expressions on the rides. Or should I say . . . expression? :)! Priceless.
Glad you’re handling the CSA thus far. I had a mild panicky EAT ALL THE THINGS! dinner tonight, and Robert Barker got plenty of leftover tossed salad, but hey, escarole + garlic + cannellini beans + onions is pretty tasty. Especially with corn pudding/bread.

Right in the nostrils! Oh yes I can totally see Lulu doing that. Considering she is very pokey with the dogs and has no issue with sticking her tiny petite hands into DJ’s mouth. Masking teeth and all. Give me strength. Or more wine.

I love the video of Lulu walking. What a champ!!

Folding laundry is the worst. In fact, it’s still sitting on my guest room bed. Ha!
Madeline says
Ok, can I be one of your kids?! The adventures, the FOOD, the adorable outfits? I’m convinced. Thank you for sharing the fun pictures. I’m new to your blog but will definitely be trying out some of theses delicious recipes! And we already agree on the laundry–I think the worst is getting back from a trip and all the laundry that ensues, and I don’t even have kids!!
Meghan says
So long as you pick up after yourself and have no problems bringing me coffee, you’re welcome to join our brood. 🙂
Kaylee says
Look at that little social butterfly go! Three playdate?! Wowza.
Saw the fair ride videos on your Instagram again. They gave me a good chuckle. She will for sure be one of those kids vying for the front spots on the scariest of roller coasters.
Those palm trees and fruits. If only adult clothes were that colorful and fun…

If I was one of -those- people, I’d call Ave #goals. Because heck, she’s one fearless little lady going on all of those rides alone without batting an eye. Looks like you’ll need to up the adventure factor soon ;).
Folding laundry right away is overrated. One of the few bad things about summer is that hanging laundry out to dry in the sunshine means I can’t let it hang for quite as long anymore without the neighbours noticing. Speaking of laundry and clothes: all of Ave’s make me happy. The yellow, the fruits – yes! And your kitchen wizardry is making me seriously hungry. Shippings always welcome.

It felt so good to have a bit of kitchen wizardry in my life again. I am loving on my CSA right now. So many delicious veggies.
Laundry dried in the sun is almost as wonderful as clean sheets. Although clean sheets dried in the sun takes the cake.
