Week in Review: The Roller Coaster Edition (#92)

July 24, 2017 by Meghan 28 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

Last week kicked my non-ass ass, or maybe I should come right out and say the tiny dictator whupped my baseless backside. Sometimes parenting is sunshine, laughter and bubbles, and other times, it’s exhausting, relentless and the pit of hell (I’m talking to you diaper genie; dear god, the stench), usually all in the same day.

In any event, we attempted, unsuccessfully, to transition Ave to one nap a day. The short version is none of us got the sleep we needed, which translates to one cranky baby, tons of comfort nursing and a hangry momma. Did you know my child doesn’t take a bottle at all? Yep, she’s boob or bust, which left me drained, quite literally.

As a result, the vast majority of my days involved chasing after the wee babe and drinking copious amounts of coffee. I’m fairly certain we read every book in her room at least a hundred times, with an even heavier emphasis on Row, Row Your Boat. It’s a crowd favorite.

Outside of that, we did a few things other things.

The whole family went to the barbershop and got their hair cut, well except Ave who has almost no hair.

We also had a family adventure to the neighborhood swimming hole mainly because Ave requested it daily. “Pool? Pool? Pool? Pool. Pool. Pool,” she says nonstop.

We also spent an afternoon playing in the sprinkler or really the puddles surrounding the sprinkle. Details, details.

With my fancy new spiralizer, I made all the Kohlroodles and even some zoodles. It’s official, I’m smitten.

I penned a recipe post for this simple and sassy white bean tomato basil salad with a side of serial killer. You’d have to read it to understand.

This salad is bursting with the bold flavors of summer: sweet, succulent tomatoes, brazen basil, gallant garlic and wholehearted white beans.

Last but not least, the Hubby, la petit bebe and I met up with some family for Sunday brunch at The Market. It was finger licking good.

It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

I don’t know that rest is in my future, but at least beer is. 🙂

Mmm the white bean salad looks great. I wish I could remember the books I asked mom/dad/siblings to read over and over again, just for sentimentality’s sake. Hope this week is a little more restful for both you and Ave.

omg the diaper genie. I forgot all about it lol. Benji didn’t take a bottle either – so I understand, it’s so hard! but he did drink water/juice from a sippy cup which made life easier as he got older.

The no bottle thing is tough, much tougher than I think people realize. I’m so glad you can relate. Thankfully, Ave loves water and food so that helps.

Oof. Sounds like a rough week. At least there were oodles of veggie noodles involved. Hope this weeks turns around and is filled with more restful naps.
Also, tell Ave that as someone who also had 0 hair as a tot, I can relate.

When we first have our babies, we keep counting down the days to when they will get through the newborn phase and sleep through the night. I try to keep the secret to myself just so I don’t totally depress the brand new parents but in all actuality, the answer is never. Once they start sleeping through the night then something else will come up and the whole shit show starts all over again.

    Kids will kill us all.

I’ve learned that lesson already. Once you get one thing sorted,, a whole ‘nother issue arises. Sigh. One day, I shall sleep again. Maybe.

Oh the Diaper Genie… Blech. Although now I almost wish we still had it because our lady is still using pull ups at night and just tossing them in the garbage does NOT work. I should just move the outside garbage can beneath the window so I can chuck it directly out. Haha!

Here’s hoping that this week is slightly less exhausting and that Ave decides one nap is really the way to go.

Opening the diaper genie just to toss the dirty diaper in is like opening the pit of hell. The stench is overwhelming. There are days I almost vomit in my mouth.

Sorry for the rough week! That salad looks so good but playing in the puddles looks super fun. I bet that was one saturated diaper afterwords.

Thankfully they make swim diapers so they can keep out lots of water while keeping in lots of other fluid. Weird but true.

Oh. Boy. The nappy snooze transition from 3 to 2 to 1 is hard to tackle and finding the perfect time even more difficult to judge than when enough wine really is enough wine. Or wait! Maybe you neglected to bring enough wine (or beer) into the equation? Difficult and exhausting for a week and a half even when the time is right. And each dynamic ducky is darned different. So don’t listen to anyone’s advice. You’ll get it right!

We have son who would spend an hour at Aves age, playing with a cup of water In his high chair. If I had kitchen work to do, I’d put him in his high chair up with rimmed plastic tray, a measuring cup with water and a spoon or two, no cloths but diaper, and let him go. That bit of water went everywhere. But it was worth it. It was only water, it wiped up he wiped up, and I got stuff done. Good as a pool!

Oh yes, Ave loves to play with her water when she’s in her high chair. I’ve been trying to nip it in the bud though because otherwise she’ll spend the whole meal playing and not eating. Maybe if I separate it from mealtime though….you might be onto something.

We’re on vacation this week so we have plenty of beer, wine and family around to nap. Fingers crossed she gets the hang of this one nap business.

Transitioning to one nap sounds like hell. So does that diaper pail. Potty training can’t be THAT far off… right?

At least she knows she’s an ass kicker. Or her personal dresser does.

Potty training is two to three years old, but I’m going to start sooner on the rare chance it takes.

I had a really bad phase where I spiralized everything in the beginning of the year. Spiralized carrot was my favorite in a salad.
We spent the second weekend in a row in Narnia and I made you a video of my aunt-in-law’s garden. You would love it. She grows all kinds of veggies and fruits. Tomatoes, cole, zucchini, artichokes and garlic, berries, apples and so on. It’s beautiful. But the video was almost 150 mb so I couldn’t send it 😛
The bean salad looks amazing and I will put beans on the shopping list once I read the post tomorrow as my post work treat 🙂

Wow. I didn’t realize Ave won’t take a bottle. That’s hard. Parents are like super heroes but on less sleep. (Do super heroes sleep? I feel like you never see super heroes sleeping. Anyway…)
I’m now really curious about how salad can involve serial killers. Your marketing skills are impressive. I’ll have to check it out.
