Currently: August 2017

August 3, 2017 by Meghan 18 Comments

Since I completely skipped last month, it’s high time to slip another Currently post into the mix. Instead of rambling on, as is my usual custom, I’m getting right to the point today. You’re welcome.

Current Book: Golden Son, the second book in The Red Rising series. It’s a science fiction, high tech, fantasy kind of deal, and not at all my usual read. For whatever reason though, I’m hooked, and I look forward to squirreling away with it and Oscar every night. As an aside, Oscar doesn’t believe in personal space.

Current Thankfulness: my Hubby’s unusual and rotating work schedule (lots of 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. shifts), which makes buttermilk pancakes for breakfast pretty common around these here parts. Also apparently, I’m channeling my inner cowgirl; yeehaw.

Current Obsession: peaches. I’ll take them anyway I can get them right now, whether it’s eating them over the sink, while the juice runs down my face or perhaps something a little fancier, like in pancakes, pasta, muffins or grilled and stacked on a toasted cheese sandwich. Gimme gimme all the summertime peaches.

Current Triumphs: catching up on some blog reading, since I’ve been woefully behind for weeks now. It feels good to see the number of my unread blog posts dip below twenty, and it’s lovely to catch up with all of you.

Current Drink: this tropical orange smoothie. It’s one of my most pinned blog recipes, and more importantly it makes a great popsicle for teething babies, especially those molars. Oi.

With only four easy ingredients, this smoothie contains a boost of vitamins and is a light and refreshing way to start your day.

Current Confession: I just used the bathroom and didn’t flush because I was worried I’d wake the baby up from her nap. I know, I know I’m foul. On the plus side, it was just a number one because I’m not a total animal.

Current Excitement: the Hubby is having knee surgery this Friday, which isn’t ideal, but I’m looking forward to having my partner in crime home with me and the baby for the next couple of weeks, even if he is on crutches.

Current Food: salad, mostly because I get a giant head of lettuce every single week in my CSA, and I’ll be damned if I let my greens go to waste.

Current Bane of Existence: I woke up Wednesday morning in pain and completely unable to turn my head to the left. It’s made life difficult to say the least. For example, I now know every single toilet paper roll in this house is on the left hand side. Hopefully it clears up before the Hubby’s surgery, or we’re going to be a mess in this house.

Current Needs: quite possibly a live in nurse, chef and babysitter if things keep going this way. Good thing my needs are simple (cough, cough).

Current Non-Guilty Pleasure: enough said.

Current Mood: despite the physical ailments and the teething toddler, I’m in good spirits. Then again that might be all the coffee I drank earlier.

Your turn. What’s Currently going on in your world? Current book? Current obsession? Current confession?

I NEVER flush the toilet during nap time . Also, I feel you on the peach love. That sandwich looks wickedly good. My new book is Anne Lamott’s ROSIE. As a mom to a girl, you have to read it! It’s hilarious and dark and so good.

I’ve had the Red Rising books on my “To Read” list for a while. Glad to hear another actual person say that they’re good! Now for more time so I can get more reading done… I hope your neck starts feeling better soon!! I wish I had some brilliant ideas, but aside from heating pads, I’m not sure what else you can do… Oh! There is this magical cream I use sometimes, but you’d have to check if it’s breastfeeding friendly… It’s called Biofreeze!

I wish coffee could change my mood! I am hooked on caffeine for the energy but really it just keeps me on my feet and increases my craziness, not my happy!

I just finished reading The Book Thief, I know, always last one to the table. I’m still ruminating on it. I have The Husbands Secret in the wings, but sometimes after a book so dark, I just have to sit with it in soul for a while. I think I’ll pass on the movie and leave it the book and the fantastic writing.

I had a knee partial replacement about 10 years ago. The physical therapy and home exercises were so important in the successful recovery! I couldn’t be happier with my results! Best of luck to your honey-bunch!

As for your neck?? Perhaps Ave has taken one too many sharp lefts on the run? Sorry, making light of someone in pain is not fair. I do hope the kinked muscle relaxes soon!

That picture of Oscar is my favourite. His lips look so kissable. I could weep. And about not flushing, I heard that people who don’t flush their poo have some sort of emotional issues/disturbances. I know someone who doesn’t flush their poo and it seems possible. Do you know anyone? I really hope your neck feels better. That’s the WORST.

i hope your neck feels better! any physical ailment is not cool, then if you add a baby or tiny human that multiplies by a thousand. really not cool! i feel like both hubby and i are taking turns having some new ailment, injury, mallody, etc. i am not complaining, even though i gripe there is sitll so much intense joy that comes with watching our babe grow up in this crazy world. the fact that she’s so happy and strong blows my mind. i just hate htat i can’t take away her physical pain, that is the one thing that drives me bonkers but ce la vie.
currently loving our schedule.. at least that we are going on date nihgts and out with our babe a lot more. justhaving a busy social calendar is helping me, getting out and and about. working full time is definitely a test of my multi tasking spirit and i have so much appreciation for every single second. i give no shits about little ti ngs like grammar or spelling these days and its’ honestly GREAT lol sending you all the happy healthy juju!!! xoxo

Ughhhh random neck through-the-night spasms are the WORST!! The worst worst. Knee surgery is also awful, but I do like this silver lining that you’ll get in far more hubs time over the recovery period (we won’t tell the one gimping around on crutches that we’re secretly celebrating…). You two may be a hot mess, but at least you’re hot 😉

I really want to meet Oscar. What a model.

I love these posts! SO entertaining. I saw that sandwich on instagram and it still made me do a double take. I need to make it, the combo is so perfect.

I want those muffins! And the sammich.

No shame in not flushing #1. When we’re in a water shortage, we say “if it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.”

Good luck to you BOTH tomorrow. xoxo

I’ve heard of Red Rising! Been meaning to give that a chance.
Also, you make me want to buy peaches specifically to make that sandwich. Hope your neck/head feels better! Any idea what might’ve caused it?

Currently reading… well, I haven’t started it quite yet but it will be The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, the next book for my book club.
Currently excited for… classes to be over! One more week. Woop!

Sending lots of good wishes to the hubs for his surgery. I can imagine it will be lovely to have some company in the house for a few weeks though 🙂
Damn that breakfast menu at Jack Flaps looks amazing – is it crazy I read literally as much of the menu as I could on that pic and decided what I would order? Gah I need to get out more! (Garbage plate with the rice pudding to take home in case your wondering…!)

Fresh peaches are amazing. Other than berries, they’re my favorite summer fruit. The sandwich and muffins both look peachy keen. Is your neck recovering? Currently, I have a few days off from work, and I started this morning with waffles. Life is pretty good.

Also, I think Oscar has RBF.

Ouch, damnit! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed both for your neck feeling okay again soon and the hubby’s surgery! If you were living any closer by, I’d also offer my cooking and care giving skills – babysitting toddlers doesn’t seem to be one of my strengths, unfortunately; older children are more my expertise ;).

I’ve been terribly behind on all blogs this summer too. So much that I tend not to comment because I’m usually 2 weeks behind on blogs and it feels stalkerish that that point for me to comment lol.

I just bought a basket of Ontario peaches this weekend and they are making my tastebuds sing! Gosh I love this time of year when it feels like almost everything is in season!
