Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
On Monday morning, we had a big family breakfast at Jack Flaps. If my edibles look familiar, it’s because I ordered the same thing the week before. I’m obsessed with the root vegetable hash, although I promise to switch it up next time… er, maybe.
On Tuesday, the Hubby, the tiny dictator and I road tripped to New York state for family dinner. It’s our last time hanging out with the Belgium contingent until Christmas. We’ll miss them.
At the same event, I managed to snag a picture of my dad, my brothers and I. I love these guys, even when they make me banana shorts or take me on motorcycle rides.
We headed back home on Wednesday after a long lunch in Kay’s Place, where they took pity on us when we arrived with a very cranky baby. Suffice to say, Ave is not always the greatest traveler and they sensed it instantly. I think the crying and wailing gave her away. In any event, they were fabulous with all of us. The milkshake definitely didn’t hurt either.
Thursday was jam packed. I dropped Ave off at the in-laws after we all went to the Hubby’s follow up doctors appointment (he’s mending well, by the way). Sadly that same day, we had a giant tree taken down in our back yard because he was hollow on the inside.
To offset our carbon footprint and lessen my guilt for felling the beautiful beast, I met an old co-worker for lunch at Treehugger’s Cafe.
On Thursday evening, we reclaimed our refinished antique dresser so my underwear officially has a home again, aside from riding up my non backside.
Later that same night, I had one of my besties over, so we could drink wine, catch up, eat a layered Mediterranean hummus dip, and drink more wine. Oh and did I mention the wine?
On Friday, the Hubby, Ave and I ran all the errands: Target, Breadsmith, Whole Foods, Pet Supply Plus, Walgreen’s and the kids section at the library for general debauchery. I dabbled in a little recipe testing with roasted cabbage, and we switched the tiny human back to two daily naps since middle of the night jam sessions and 5:15 a.m. wake up calls dictate a need for more sleep. Parenting is hard.
On Saturday, I made a huge effort to tackle all my CSA veggies and I cooked my non-ass ass off (plum pancakes with a plum sauce, peanut butter banana chocolate chip granola, stuffed peppers, and potato kale soup) before heading over to the in-laws for first dinner to celebrate a huge milestone: Ave’s first sleepover at grandma and grandpas without mom and dad. This was wonderful and weird all at the same time.
After we put the baby to bed, the Hubby and I met friends out for a second dinner of Ethiopian food and then took the party to Bar 32 for more shenanigans, also known as cocktails. We didn’t get to bed until 3 a.m. Hashtag worth it.
On the seventh day, we rested…or recovered if you want to get all technical about it. Damn those Moscow mules. Oh and the tiny dictator went back to one nap a day because kids.
It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.
im so glad you had fun even though you were up until 3:00 am! It must have hurt yesterday but it was so worth it I’m sure!
Thankfully the in-laws didn’t drop Ave off until 9 a.m. other wise I never would have stayed up so late. Also, both the Hubby and I napped yesterday when she napped. Ha.

So this one could have been called “the social-lite” issue! Which is AWESOME. Look at all those friend gatherings and food outings. Wooooo for Ave having her first sleepover. I’m sure the late night shots and raunchy movie watching will remain a secret between her and the in-laws. Though, you were having enough of your own shenanigans so I guess it would be equal. So pumped about all you did this week. Though – you must be zonked. Bedtime?

I’m totally zonked even with naps and sleep ins. Thankfully the Hubby is home right now so we’re at least managing it together.

Love how you had so much family time, and that milkshake looks absolutely epic. It’s so wonderful that you were resourceful and cooked up all those CSA veggies and fruits. 🙂 The CSA box is such a good idea.

I love my CSA, mainly because I get to play with my veggies and partake in kitchen shenanigans.
Now that we have Ave, I’m trying to do lots of family things so our extended family really get to know her and spend time together. She’s got lots of cousins and we want them to grow up together.

So glad that you want her to grow up loving and appreciating her extended family too!

Ahhhh I’ve been dying to know how your night went and how Ave did at her first sleepover! I’m glad you guys had such a good time. YAYYYYY! I love that photo of you and your dad and brothers. You all look so similar. Your dad has some strong DNA! You guys are all total babes.

Real story: it took us over an hour to put Ave to bed at the in-laws, and then she woke up at 4:30 a.m.. Grandma ended up sleeping with her (or laying next to her while she slept) in the big bed just to get her back down until 7 a.m. Her sleep has been a mess lately and I have no idea why. She was up for 2.5 hours last night too. Grumble, grumble.

What a busy week and so many delicious eats. I love Ethiopian food and haven’t had it in far too long!

Tiny dictators will dictate, lol! Then one day, slowly, you will be allowed to direct the little empress dictator. Soon, your lucky! And for that I leave you this good luck charm . The sleepover was a grand step and I just remember showing up at my inlaws with all 3, from 5, 2 and 6 months and not thinking much about it. By the time our 4 th arrived we had built in babysitting and they loved having him to themselves. Thankfully My own grandbabies came only in sets of two!
I LOVE cooking ahead for the week, like you have done! Makes life nice to be able to come home after a busy day and have a few things in fridge or freezer. I can’t seem to keep up with my tomatoes and am roasting them on the grill and freezing those for sauce later. And I am so in love with a little pepper plant called “Sweet Heat” they turn fiery red when rip and grilled they’re smoky, sweet, and with just a touch of heat. So good in a grilled veg salad!
Make tomato pesto and freeze it for later to use as pasta or pizza sauce.
Our tomatoes are pouring in now too, thanks to the CSA and the garden. It’s veggie madness over here and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My in-laws are my saving grace. They help keep the baby happy, me sane and themselves young. I’d be lost without them.

Tomato pesto? Thank-You! I will be looking that up straight away!
God bless extended families! All family for that matter! Friends can be family too!
The tiny dictator looks super cute in her dresses, despite any fussiness or lack of sleeping. Just remember, you get to embarrass the living shit out of her as a teen. Mwhahahaha!
I’m glad the sleepover went well. At least you were too drunky to be worried. LOL! I’ll see to it that any San Diego trips go similarly. But really… we want Ave to come too.
P.S. There’s really a restaurant called Treehugger?! You hippies. 😉

I love that you want Ave to come too. It makes me happy. You are my people.
Also, apparently I had an entire conversation with the Hubby in the middle of the night asking him to check on the baby. 🙂

Ethiopian food is my FAVORITE! This, this right here, plus the mom thing and the same taste in humor and books, proves that we were destined to be friends.

Lots of good food and time with family makes for a pretty good week. There is no mistaking that you, your dad and your brothers are related. I also really love Ave’s dresses. So cute!!

That milkshake looks delectable, and your little ones are heart-meltingly adorable. Hehe, eating at the Treehugger Cafe def makes up for any trees that were killed in the process 😉

Glad you got a little time away from the tiny dictator. (She’s lookin’ especially stylish these days!) Your antique dresser is gorgeous. My folks have a very similar one–but not in quite as good of shape. It’s like four times as heavy as you could possibly imagine it could be.
Joyce @ The Hungry Caterpillar recently posted…What I Do After Eating More than Usual
I can’t believe how beautiful it came out as well. We went with a natural stain to showcase the wood, which is walnut so the dresser is quite heavy. They really knew how to make them back then.

What a fab week! Good eats, drinks and wonderful company – perfect! And Ethiopian food is so incredible, very envious of that.
One thing David and I did try this week was making our own Moscow mules. Absolutely fantastic but I couldn’t help but think they would taste even better in copper mugs!

The mugs do make quite a difference. 🙂

oh the joys! we’ve been on the 1 nap schedule for a few months now, or is it weeks? i really have no real clue of time anymore. what is time? who cares? all i care about is whether my tiny babe is OK and then all is well up in my biscuit. deez nuts. tiny babe happy, mama happy. mama happy, well…. mama happy. Lulu has her own sleep requirements, she doesn’t sleep as much as other babes but she’s happy and it works. we have other things to occupy my OCD mind anyhow. like her poo and her butt. which are thankfully much better.. for now. her toosh is still red but it’s healing. we’re on the mend.
i had a weekend away with friends and honestly it was too much. i couldn’t handle it. sad i know, but next time i’ll just do 1 night. baby steps for the baby mama right?
When baby is happy, momma is happy. Most definitely. I’m so glad Lulu is doing better now. Did you ever figure out the culprit.
The one night away was perfect for me right now. I’d have to work up to two like you.
The Ethiopian food looks so good! Also, just reading all of this made me tired…zzzz…
Misti recently posted…week in review: more jello than I care to imagine
You and me both. It was a busy week and I need a nap.
That dresser is gorgeous!
I also had Greek dip on Thursday night!!
Where did you get that amazing Ethiopian platter?
I’m craving Ethiopian food now.
I love antique furniture, and your refinished dresser looks so good! Almost makes me want to refinish my art deco dresser…maybe…someday…
Ave’s little jean sandals are too cute! And I love Ethiopian food! Haven’t had it in a while though… I need to fix that!
You know the saying, why change a good thing?? And boy does that root hash look mighty good.
Roasted cabbage–or any veggie for that matter–is my fave!!!
Congrats to Ave and your two on that milestone! Hoping for more sleepovers for her in the future so you can party the night away with more Ethiopian meals and shenanigans
