Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Last week was tough for a variety of reasons.
Ave is still partying in the middle of the night or starting most days before the crack of dawn (hello 5:15 a.m.) which is mildly irritating and absolutely exhausting. My main source of fatigue though is the current political climate. I don’t want to get into it here though.
Last week wasn’t all sleepless nights and intolerance which is why today I’m focusing on the fun stuff.
Let’s get listing:
The Hubby, my partner in crime, is still recuperating from knee surgery so he was home with Ave and I all week. Tackling a toddler and random sleep breaks is so much better when there’s two of you.
As a result, I napped like a boss, especially on mornings where my nap started at 7 a.m..
Ave and I or she and the Hubby hit up the local park almost every single morning. Sometimes we went down by the water to explore and other times, we visited the playground, where we got to practice our ninja warrior climbing skills.
We also played with the next door neighbor’s dog most days, who is sweetly protective of Ave. He even scared off a little old lady who wanted to say hi.
One day, we engaged in backyard pool shenanigans which led to naked gardening, peeing in the driveway and unsuccessfully attempting to play in the self created puddle.
We all adulted. We paid bills, sent off packages, folded laundry, cleaned and vacuumed. Ave’s favorite is the latter. She’s practically a pro; one day we might even turn it on.
For me personally, I finished the book, Lucky Boy by Shanthi Sekaran. It was a fantastic, yet heartbreaking read that couldn’t/shouldn’t have ended any other way.
I got a relaxation massage.
I penned a post on the joys or really the hijinks that come with nursing a toddler. I submitted that same post to Scary Mommy, so cross your fingers for me.
I got frisky with my peaches.
I caught up with an old and dear friend on Saturday.
I joined another for a pool party on Sunday.
I ate my weight in tomatoes.
I did a second round of recipe testing for my wedge salad using grilled cabbage.
Last but not least, I made another batch of ratatouille and a vegetable strata with part of a leftover Asiago baguette from the Breadsmith.
It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.
Joyce @ The Hungry Caterpillar says
In response to lack of sleep and the current political climate, I think naps and massages sound like an ideal response.
The political climate is especially stressful given how divisive it can be. I find myself arguing with a lot of people I don’t want to argue with. 🙁
This week I printed 100 syllabi. Technically, the copy machine was doing the hard work, but I still think that counts as an accomplishment.

Printing 100 syllabi definitely counts as accomplishment.
I’m with you on the political business. I’ve had far too many discussions with people I care about that have left me disappointed and disheartened.

I love that Ave isn’t scared of dogs–you don’t know what a big deal that is. It’s why we’re so glad we have a dog. The twins are so good with her. Also, Lucky Boy, yeesh. It doesn’t leave your head does it? Especially now. I’m going to find that write up they did in Literary Mama and send it to you. Also, you HAVE to tell me as soon as you hear from Scary Mommy. I loved that angle you took on it! P.S. The granola is loooonnnngggg gone.

Yes please send me the Lucky Boy review. That book is still haunting me. Also, I loved, loved, loved the writing style in there.
Fingers crossed on the SM front. I’m hoping the unique spin will seal the deal.
Yeah we’re lucky Ave isn’t scared of dogs. She actually doesn’t seem scared of much (yet), although she is cautious. She studies things and takes it all in before making a move. She always makes the move though and she doesn’t run away or get upset so hooray for that.

Can I make you (and the hubs) another cup of coffee? I’ll be right over, and I swear I know all the perfect ratios.
Though, you are definitely taking the right prescription with the added naps and massage (YES go you). Oh and cooking. I’m glad to see the summer kitchen parties are not dying down. Now if I could get steal some of your produce action…

Yes, yes, yes please, we’d love to have you here in Cleveland to give us coffee and taste the Breadsmith’s cinnamon rolls and share my produce, which we’re swimming in right now. I’ll get your room ready.

The day when Ave starts to vacuum is going to be a good day; it sounds like it was a tough week. I’m resonating with you there Meg; the week wasn’t super easy over here too. However yesterday, it was such an encouragement having a joint church picnic at the park and talking about how Jesus can bring people of every race together and that that’s where our hope must be especially in the midst of all the news and all the tension. I am so thankful that Jesus can create peace by changing people’s hearts. <3

What’s up with the morning monkeys? I can’t relate in this way in particular this past week. But I can certainly remember sleepless nights. I think it was 2 weeks ago haha! Our week last week was a mild victory. Actually big egging victory. Hubby has been overseas for 8 days and will be home in a week. I survived!! I’ve had more on my plate than I can type. Living in a construction site during our mold remediation, being a single mom and dealing with random vomit, diarrea, daycare; juggling all the things and being working super mom; dealing with my own mouth ulcer that I got noshing on pretzels; organized a mom’s night out and it was superb; got lots and lots of support and help, even got a couple runs in for sanity. I left out some things but I haven’t had coffee and about to get my ulcer lasered on by my dentist. I’m off work today and taking mini me to the science museum, favorite place. Miss you and your sweet tribe!
Meghan says
Mold remediation!!!! Maybe that’s what Lulu’s were from. That’s a whole lot on your plate and then to be doing it solo. Wow, I’m giving you a medal, a cookie and the whole kit and caboodle. Damn momma, you get major snaps from me. Miss you too.

Man, I am so glad you’re able to get some naps in because 5am wake-up calls would just about do me in. Callum has a mini vacuum that he plays with when I use the big one. It’s like a dustbuster on a stick. They’re pretty cheap, and a lot better than toy vacuums because these ones can actually pick up crumbs and fur off the floor. I highly recommend.

Haha, oh the naked gardening… why can’t we all get away with that? That is really awesome that she does so well with dogs too – another example of why exposing kids to as many things as possible when they are little is a good idea. The strata has me salivating as well. I think I need to spend some time cooking REAL food this week. Ha!

Ugh politics… I don’t think I’ve ever worried as much as I have in the past several months. And that’s saying a lot because I’ve always been a worrier.
I almost wish I had a kid in my life to keep reminding me to enjoy the small things and live every day in the present. I bet having Ave is such a gift for that reason right now (and for many other reasons of course). That picture of her crouching is adorable – she looks like she’s having some deep, serious thoughts!

Exactly. Ave is kind of the only thing keeping me sane in this political climate. At the same time, it makes me more worried for the world she’s going to inherit. Sigh.

I like and understand the shirt. Mine says only “Love” but then some wouldn’t understand its meaning at all.
I love Aves daily visits with the neighbors dog! I love her yen to vacuum too! I’ll bet that will vanish during her teen years though, so take advantage while you can, once she’s ready for actual power, hehe…
All that nekked frolicking and driveway puddles, skinny dipping and picnic-nicking! It’s surely an enchanted baby’s life in the summer! And all on so little sleep. How do they do that?
Meghan says
We could all use a bit more love and empathy these days. I swear we should all be forced to walk a mile in someone else shoes.
I have no idea how they function so fantastically on so little sleep (it wasn’t always so). On Saturday night, she slept like a champ, twelve straight hours until 7a.m. It was a miracle until she turned out to be ornery all day long. Go figure.

Haha! That is why you’ve come to call her the tiny dictator! Believe me, all children are not so. Of four, I was blessed with two. And to think I thought, at a very young age of 18, I simply was the perfect mother, lol!
I had my next who set me straight right quick! While every parent should wish for a child more intelligent then they, never, ever, wish for a child more cleaver than you! And deep in my heart, I believe that non sleepers are spending their time plotting their teen years to come. One hint that I can offer, leave no loop holes.
Meghan says
Oh yes she’s a smart little whippersnapper. I definitely have my hands full so I better work on closer all the loop holes fast. 🙂

Don’t even start on the politics. I’m beside myself these days. When you think it can’t get more bizarre… it does.
Ave peed in the driveway?! LOL! That sounds like something she might do when she comes home drunk at the age of 16. (My sister puked in our driveway – then my dad hosed her and the driveway off. True story.)
I hope Jon is feeling better. I’m hobbling like a boss now. It doesn’t really hurt but it’s annoying AF.
Scary Mamma better accept that post, btw. I cackled all the way through it.

The political climate worldwide makes me so mad/ sad that I cannot bear to watch the news anymore. We have federal election in Germany in September and thinking about it makes me really anxious!
Anyways, apart from the lack of sleep this looks like a fantastic week. Even though the reason behind could be a better one I am glad you get to spend so much time with your hubby. Hope his knee is healing quickly!
