Week in Review: Food, Frolicking and Felines (#108)

November 13, 2017 by Meghan 40 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

Monday was a long day, and I blame daylight savings time. I’m cool with changing clocks so long as you can get the tiny tots on the same page. Since we were going stir crazy in the house, Ave and I opted to brave the cold and head to the park.

Forty minutes and three icicles on our chin later, we were playing at the local library with one of our buddies.

The following morning we went to Toddler Tuesday, an open free for all hosted by a local group. They have snack time for the kiddos and all you can drink coffee for the adults, which means these are my people.

Later that night, we had a dinner play date with friends. Ave got to test out new toys, and I got to eat a meal made by someone else. It was lovely.

On Wednesday, we went to our first music class, and Ave was a fan. We sang, we danced, and we shook our tail feathers.

On Thursday, the tiny dictator was at grandma and grandpa’s house, so the Hubby and I headed out to lunch and did a little light holiday shopping. We also had out first fire of the season that night. Bliss.

On Friday night, I participated in a food tasting at The Burnham, a restaurant in the Hilton Cleveland. I’ll be sharing all the deets (read: eats) later this week.

Other highlights of the week included swimming laps, slow but steady progress on my puzzle and a big trip to Costco with my father-in-law and the wee babe. Ave ate all the samples and even some of our groceries before we even got to the check out.

The toughest part about last week though was saying goodbye to Samantha, my furry friend. She died in my arms on Saturday night, and even though I knew it was coming, my heart hurts, and I miss having her curled up in my lap while I pen my blog posts. Give your fur babies an extra hug and kiss today from me.

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

I am so so sorry to hear about Samantha! I can understand how you feel! When I had to say goodbye to my cats it broke my heart.

I am glad that all other things that happened last week sound really good! I really had to laugh when I saw the picture of you and Ave at the passport event.
It’s lunchtime right now and I wouldn’t mind a piece of that pizza. It’s cold here and I wish I had a warm lunch but the office sucks and we don’t eve have a working microwave anymore 😛 Or even better than pizza I’d love to sit a bit by your cozy fireplace. I’d even sing with Ave though I never sing when someone could hear me!
Here’s to a great week! Sending you hugs and kisses!

Thankfully you won’t be at the office much longer. Also, you and Stefan are always invited to come sit by the cozy fireplace. In fact, I think you’d actually enjoy Cleveland in the winter since you’re no stranger to cold and it gives us a chance to nest and cook. 🙂

Ave loves anyone who sings to her, regardless of tone. If she can handle my singing, she can handle anyone’s voice. Ha!

Oh I’m so sorry to hear about Samantha! Saying goodbye to our fur babies is so hard!

And I love that you and the hubs usually make it out for a lunch date. I think that time together is so important. And OMG that pizza!

Dates with the Hubby are much harder to come by now with the tiny dictator in the picture, but they’re also so much more rewarding as a result. 🙂

Oh Meg, I”m so sorry about Samantha. I was just looking at Zoe (by collie/golden mutt) the other day and noticed all the gray around her mouth and how long it takes her to get up the stairs, like an old lady–one inching step at a time. I’ve had her longer than I’ve had my husband.

P.S. I think Ave dresses better than me.

It’s so hard to lose a pet. They are family too and letting them go painful and sad. It has caused us to really think hard about bringing another into our home in last few months after having to say goodbye. Such a gorgeous photo of Samantha, and I know you miss your little lap warmer. Fond memories will eventually warm your heart rather than sadden it.

Kids seem to be cold proof up to a certain age! It’s funny, as soon as they learn to say they are bored they learn to say it’s too cold, too hot, too wet, too windy, you name it! You and Ave have several good years yet, lol! She sure is a busy little bug isn’t she! So cute! Love to see her playing alongside friends!

Holiday shopping and fires in the hearth! So romantic! We need to try that! I need a chimney sweep this year first though. Should be interesting….

We do a chimney sweep every other year; it’s so necessary because we love to have fires in the winter time. It’s cozy and inviting.

Ave is definitely cold proof right now. It’s a battle to get her coat or sweater on every day, which thankfully I’m still winning although I’m not sure for how long. 🙂

I’m grateful for every minute I had with a Samantha. I love having cats (or dogs) around because their love is so unconditional and their needs small.

Oh, Meg. I’m so sorry. Pets are so special and make the best of friends, so it is very hard to say goodbye. Samantha must have been the happiest cat to have had you all as family.

Mmmm fires. You keep cozy by that with a good (few) books now. The weather here is frightful – you and Ave are brave to face the icicles.

Saying goodbye to furry friends is NEVER easy. We had two dogs hit by cars, and that was really hard. It was really really teaching me to trust God and to not take the time I have with my favorite people and my furry friends for granted. <3 I'm so glad you were able to hold your kitty when she passed.

And I'm glad you and Ave got to brave the cold and be at the park for a little while too.

It feels like by far not enough and I’d much rather give you a big hug but: I’m sorry for your loss. We haven’t had pets in a long time – unless you count my mum’s horse but she’s not exactly a house companion – but I still remember the sadness of losing those we had as children. I hope Oscar is taking up Samantha’s lap-sitting position – somebody’s got to keep overlooking your blogging process after all ;).
What I’m happy to see/read is how joyous the remainder of your week was. Not that it was taking away from the pain but I’m glad you had so many wonderful experiences, too. Also, is Ave playing with other children all the time now? Progress! As you told me you’re assuming she’s an introvert, I’m not sure how independent I was at her age. Which now makes me want to ask my mum next time I see her.

Yes, she is playing with other kids now but only really cousins and the two boys we hang out with regularly. They also do mostly side by side play although they’re engaging with one another more and more. I notice Ave withdraws though when the crowd is large (like at story time or big play groups) and I’m fine with that. As far as being independent, she’s good so long as mom is very close by. 🙂

Thanks for your kind words. I really appreciate it.
