Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
The Thanksgiving holiday has me feeling all sorts of giddy, mainly because I’m not Native American, which means I get to keep my land and heritage without fear of recrimination. Cultural genocide aside, I am incredibly thankful and privileged, and it’s good to recognize it from time to time.
Let’s get listing:
I’m thankful for…
Ave was a rock star at Thanksgiving, by which I mean she didn’t spend the entire day attached to my leg. In all honesty, I had really low expectations. After a long car ride, I knew Ave wouldn’t greet a room full of strangers with open arms. I figured she’d cling to my side like a spider monkey, and she did, but only for the first ten minutes. After that she explored, made friends, fist bumped practically everybody and ate her body weight in M&M’s. Go tiny dictator go!
(Like mother, like daughter. Also to be clear, there was no coffee harmed in the making of this picture, although the mug didn’t survive to tell the tale.)
Catching up with old friends over a feast of food and simultaneously having a date with the Hubby. Did I mention Ave spent the night at grandma and grandpa’s house? Bow chick-a-wow-wow.
(So many tasty vittles at Collision Bend, and the best service, which had nothing to do with the phenomenal cocktails.)
Exercising again. It’s been a long time since I worked out consistently, but damned if it doesn’t make me feel good. I wouldn’t mind shedding some of the baby weight either, but that’s neither here nor there.
(I sweat literal buckets during these CycleBar classes, which is wonderful because forearm sweat makes me smile. I have issues, I know.)
Hot water. We lost ours for a while this weekend, and it’s a pretty big deal. No showers, no laundry, no washing dishes. While it sounds like a great way to get out of adulting, it’s not. One new thermocouple later, pretending I know what this is and how it works, and we’re back in business. Bonus points for clean underwear and learning how to fire up, pun intended, the pilot light.
(I don’t have a picture for this. Instead here is the fridge in our creepy basement. The hot water tank is right across from it. I spent far too much time on this floor last weekend.)
The holidays. I puffy heart this time of year. Working in accounting made it really hard to enjoy the month of December. Since I’m semi-retired now as a stay at home mom, I get to kick back and embrace the moments. I can’t wait to make Christmas cookies with the wee babe or force her to watch The Sound of Music at an inappropriately loud volume while singing “these are a few of my favorite things. ” I know my Hubby is really looking forward to the latter. Snort.
(This picture is from 2016. Gotta start ’em young.)
While I’m thankful for a thousand more things, including but not limited to the Hubby, family, coffee, wine, and bribing my child to get on the potty with Baby Einstein videos (cough, mother of the year, cough), I’ve rambled long enough today.
Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.
im glad you had a nice thanksgiving! I really need to take a spin class again, I always say. that. and, we loved baby Einstein 🙂 Baby newton was the favorite around here.

Well as long as no coffee was harmed 😉
Glad you had such a nice and restful Thanksgiving, Meghan! 🙂

Thanks. Gotta make sure the coffee remains unscathed.

glorious!!! what a glorious week and time of year indeed. hot water is always on the top of my gratitude list, ever since hurricane Ike hit a few years back and we lost water for so long… oh yeah, gimme all the water. and make it hot.
i love forearm sweat as well! it makes me feel like i did something.. which of course i did.
watching the babes gain independence is such a remarkable thing!!! bitter sweet. in the mornings i love how i get to spend a couple of hours with my little sweetie before work, but then during those moments i find myself rolling my eyes when she attaches herself to my legs as i’m doing dishes or making breakfast. i really LOVE that she does that, but i also find myself trying to maneuver around her without a)hurting either of us and b) breaking shit, and c) making too much of a mess and d)getting my own stuff done while doing mom time. it’s a fun and precious juggling act each day that i’m grateful for. puffy heart the holidays indeed! we watched The Holiday on Thanksgiving evening as we decorated the tree and drank the birthday bottle of red from my hubby’s bday..oh what a great night. Lulu had fun, too 🙂 so much to be grateful for, and now we must embark on our first little international family getaway this weekend to Cancun. i’m sorts freaking out because Lulu and myself got colds, and frankly i don’t have time for this shit!!! project get well asap underway
Cancun!!! Ahhh I’m so jealous. Have a marvelous time and I hope you are both healthy. Blows kiss.

Oh man, I totally know what you mean by being grateful for water. For about a week earlier in this year we didn’t have water. It was HARD. I didn’t realize how much water is so crucial to every part of life.
And I love how you were totally and pleasantly surprised by Ave and her reaction to all the people on Thanksgiving.

Water and electricity are my two biggies, mainly because I need both to make coffee. 🙂 🙂

Eek, definitely gotta be grateful for hot water, something I take for granted often. I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Christmas time too. It’s my absolute favorite. So yes to all the cookies, holiday films and songs & family time. Hard to believe it is 28 days away!!!
Also, I may have asked you this before, but what did you do in your previous accounting life? I’m currently finishing up my mater’s degree in accounting and I’m curious to know what I may be getting myself into. 🙂

I used to oversee an Accounting Department at a law firm. I started off in payroll though and it was interesting to say the least.
Hooray for the holidays!

Holy Go Ave, Go! I hope she treated herself to an even extra round of M&Ms for that social bravery.
I also really hope she takes after you in her love for Sound of Music. I can just see you and her singing and dancing in circles in the living room, while the hub grumbles away with his ear plugs and newspaper…
Happy gratitude edition to you! Sounds like your week was everything it should have been. Thanks, as always, for hosting <3

I’m hoping she loves the Sound of Music just as much as me. Fingers crossed. I already know she loves the hot cocoa and tree decorating so we’re on our way to enjoying Christmas.

I love that Ave’s already spent the night away from home. Charlie didn’t spend the night away from me until he was TWO

Someone gave me the good advice of starting sleepovers at grandma and grandpa’s house when they’re young so this was Ave’s second. We’re gonna keep doing it too until she’s totally comfortable with an overnight.

CHRISTMAS COOKIES. possibly the best holiday tradition. I’m sure Ave will enjoy her introduction to making them.
How could she not? She already loves eating cookies, so frosting them can only make it more enjoyable.

I am so glad to hear you got your hot water boiler sorted out, that must have been absolute hell. But putting that aside, it looks like you had a wonderful week, hooray for friends and date night!
Also go Ave go! So glad to hear she is being a little less shy now and getting involved in all the fun and games!

She did so well at Thanksgiving. I couldn’t have been more pleased because she can be quite shy around adults. For some reason, she doesn’t have the same cautious nature around animals or other children.

If you give me M&Ms, I’ll play nicely with others too! HA! So glad she was good though. I know that was probably a source of anxiety.
Congrats on the hot water thingy! Owning can really blow sometimes. Just think of the rent I throw away and you’ll feel better. 😉

M&M’s usually make me play nicely too. That or wine.

Congrats on getting the hot water up and running again! I hate to even think about doing without. #firstworldproblems
I love that Ave fist bumps! That’s awesome. You know, I’ve never actually seen The Sound of Music….perhaps I’ll remedy that this year, if I happen to find some Christmas spirit (that isn’t being smothered by my dislike of commercialism). You are certainly blessed!
The Sound of Music is a classic. One of my favorites and not really Christmasy at all, so not sure how it ended up being a tradition, but there ya have it.
Meghan recently posted…Week in Review: The Banana Shorts Edition (#111)
Oh jeez, no hot water is definitely no bueno, particularly this time of the year. Not even the loudest of Christmas music or baking cheerfulness would be able to help so I’m glad you this sorted out. It’s so easy to overlook the simple everday blessings we have accepted as a given in our lives – until they stop working. I still remember that one time our boiler stopped working and my roommate and I were without heating. On the weekend, obviously, so our landlord couldn’t send anybody to fix it …
Ave really is a socialising star! It’s great to hear you’re accepting of her introverted personality, though. I know that still isn’t easy for my [extroverted] mum these days and you’d guess it would be.

A weekend without heat is no good, especially when the weather is cold.
Ave did steal a moment or two away in a quiet room at Thanksgiving. I can’t say I blame her. 🙂

I love this time of year too! I feel like since I just got home from vacation & I skipped over Thanksgiving, I can’t really believe that it’s about to be December, but I’m excited about it. Time to decorate my house & bake cookies & watch Elf!

Hey Meghan,
I”m glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🙂 While my comment may be too late and it’s not yet weekend, but I am thankful for having time to do what I love and that is to read (books and blogs) despite all the busy holiday preparations and work loads 🙂
It’s never too late to share what we’re thankful for. Happy reading.
