Week in Review: The German Invasion (#135)

June 4, 2018 by Meghan 21 Comments

Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

Last week passed in an absolute blur of the very best things. Sure, sure, there was general adulting, a cheeky blog post on health trends, a visit to Bubba’s Q and more home improvement projects than I care to confess.

The highlight though was and is the German invasion. Translation, Juli and Stefan came to visit us (hence the reason I cleaned the house and painted the cabinets). I picked them up at the airport Thursday night, and it’s been carefully constructed chaos ever since, in the best possible way, of course.

♫“I’m [anal] and I know it.”♫

Lunch at Melt Bar and Grilled, where battered, breaded, deep fried lasagna meets grilled cheese. It’s as healthy (cough, cough) and as tasty as it sounds. Also, despite having her own sandwich, Ave licked mine. Yes, licked.

East 4th Street Shenanigans with dinner at Butcher and the Brewer, where we indulged on crispy potatoes with smoked paprika aioli and peirogi flatbread, among other meaty things. We were able to score seats on the outdoor patio, which was perfect for people watching and enjoying the music via a street performer.

Playground antics, where after months of uncertainty and many, many minutes of hesitation, Ave tackled the “round and round slide.” I was just as excited as her. Thank you Juli for capturing this moment so perfectly.

Dinner al fresco in our backyard, which translates to less clean up for the tiny human and lots of freebies for the birds and squirrels.

A trip to Holden Arboretum, where we traversed the 120 foot tower and scaled the canopy walk.

A quick lunch out followed by pistachio gelato from my favorite, The Sweet Spot.

Speaking of food perfection, thank  you Juli, for bringing me just over two jars of your infamous drippy white chocolate macadamia nut butter, which I finished in just under three days, with nothing more than a spoon. I’ve got skills. And it’s pretty much the best thing ever.

Last but certainly not least, sunset at Lakewood Park.

It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

It’s great to have friends who are skilled with a camera. I get the benefits of beautiful pictures without the effort.

Once again, I am so hungry after I read your post. I guess that’s a good thing (right?) Your perfectly planned week with your guests sounds wonderful. You are so good at taking pictures to document your activities and your meals. I wish I had your skills. I need to visit the arboretum. The canopy walk looks amazing! Thanks for reviewing your week for our reading pleasure! 🙂

The arboretum is amazing and right now there’s so much in bloom.

The blog is going to be a memory book essentially for Ave when she grows up; at least I hope so anyway.

Your food always looks delicious!!! Those photos of Ave going down the round and round slide are beautiful! Squish has not been into slides or swings at the park – I can’t always tell if she’s a bit scared of them or just doesn’t want to be confined. Running around lots is pretty much her favorite. 🙂 We had a quiet weekend after being away but the mountain road trip was amazing. Squish even saw her first bear!! And declared “I go see it”. Um, no. It was on a hike, not from a car and we definitely retreated!

Ave’s bestie loves to play with the mulch at the playground and that’s about it so Squish is in good company.

A bear. Holy shit. That’s incredible. Did you get a picture? Or were you rightly and mainly concerned with safety and getting the heck out of dodge.

Juliiiii!!!!! AND, you had a freakin professional photographer with you to take amazing photographs of Ave. Those slide shots are amazing. Well done Juli.

If you (and Ave and the hubs) weren’t mere reason enough to visit – which, you are – I would come to your city just for the damn food. I’m so excited just thinking of you and Juli hanging out. So much fun!!

I love reading your blog 🙂 I always come away feeling I’ve been somewhere new and different without ever leaving my comfy couch.

The downside of that is while I get to see all of the food goodies, Licking the screen just wouldn’t be satisfying and besides, someone would see me for sure and declare me the neighborhood loonie tune! Really, EVERYTHING you make or indulge in looks so much more tantalizing than my boring old normal fare.

Ave’s hair! Curls! Just like Mommas! Lovely photos on the slide of a very brave and obviously proud girl.

Btw…Lucky you! I just clicked over to that nut butter recipe! I have never had a macadamia nut! But that had to be a wonderful thing to be gifted! Definitely spoon only worthy I am sure!

It’s great right? Ave’s wispy little curls. The longer it gets, the more she gets.

You are always more than welcome to join me on some foodie adventures.

      The nut butter is EVERYTHING!

You need a case of booze. Dear lord, that’s a lot and I’m so sorry to hear about your teeth and the sinus infection. Hopefully you breeze through them quickly. Sending all the healing vibes your way and booze too. Speaking of, send me your new address when you get a chance please.

I’m not sure if I’m amazed or disgusted by the thought of a lasagna sandwich. I’d at least lick it. TWSS… HAHA!

All of this carb-y goodness has convinced me that I DO need to come back to CLE one days soon.

I’d tell you where I take visitors, but you got to see it all first hand. Except for sporting events – next time we’ll throw in a soccer game or something.

You’d do more than lick it once you tried it.

Come back soon. I miss you. Bring Vegas.

Ok I love the fact that you had a list of restaurants on your calendar to visit. A girl after my own heart – good set of priorities… And I know Juli will agree!
I think there would be no better way to eat that nut butter than with a spoon. It just looks so dreamy!
