Week in Review: Are You Gonna Eat That? (#143)

July 30, 2018 by Meghan 24 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

After a very successful beach vacation the week prior, I was happy to be home.

First thing Monday morning, I dropped Ave off at the in-laws, and spent the better part of the day unpacking, shaking off the sand, picking up the house and doing laborious amounts of laundry.

I also spent a few hours horizontal on the couch catching up on my favorite television shows and snuggling with Oscar. I missed him; a week is a long time to be away from my furry friend.

The rest of the week found us back to our usual shenanigans. We hit up the grocery store one day for edible supplies, and I snagged our CSA share on Thursday, which I quickly put to good use.

(Breakfast Salad from Farm Fresh Feasts with sauteed cabbage, roasted potatoes, fluffy scrambled eggs and parsley.)

We hosted my mother for three plus days, and I failed to take a single picture with her, although I did take her to the West Side Market, where we snagged some of my favorite olives along with a dragon fruit.

(It was so pretty, incredibly juicy and boringly bland. True story.)

Speaking of some of my favorites, we had lunch one day at Forage Public House, where I scored a super tasty salad and my new obsession, the crispy cauliflower.

Of course, it wouldn’t be summertime if we didn’t sneak in some ice cream, so on multiple occasions last week, the wee lass and I rode our bike to The Sweet Spot for a scoop or two or three or four of gelato.

We also climbed our way through Ewok Village at the nearby park, which is Ave’s new favorite play area. Forget the traditional slides and swings; it’s all about the ropes course. She’s such a millennial. Next thing you know, she’ll be sipping craft beer and taking pictures of her food. Oh wait…

Thankfully the Hubby was off work this past weekend so we engaged in some family finger painting fun and successfully made a batch of snickerdoodle cookies. I say successfully because Ave tried her best to eat all the cookie dough. After licking her beater completely clean, she told me she wanted “Daddy’s” too. I said, “Ask your father first,” so she brought him her empty beater and said “Here’s yours daddy.”

Since we’re on the topic of edibles, I was invited to another food event, this time at Turn Bar + Kitchen. I adored their mango salad, and while I don’t remember what exactly was in this cocktail shown below, I know I could have easily and happily consumed another ten of them.

There were other things that happened last week, like my annual physical, lots of exercise, a cheeky blog post for this kale salad and even some yard work, but I’ve taken up enough of your time for one day, so I’m going to turn things over to you now.

This kale salad kicks things up a notch with the addition of sweet cherries, tangy feta, and candied walnuts. You'll never see kale the same way again. It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

Oh Ave. What a beautiful little smart-ass. Takes after her mother, perhaps?

Happy returns back to normalcy! Glad it was balanced out with laundry, TV, and delicious food.

Ah, licking the beaters. Reminds me of baking Christmas cookies with my mom as a kid. Ave’s got the right idea!

Licking the beaters always reminds of baking with my mom too. Pretty sure it was always our favorite part. 🙂

So happy you all had a wonderful beach time. It’s great to get home and see Oscar. Our fur babies miss us when it’s inky a few hours. Probably minutes. Dogs are so needy haha. The dragon fruit ya truly funny. So pretty and so bland! Mother Nature and her humor. She must have intended it for garnish or to be fried. Welcome home!

I WANT this breakfast salad. Right now, even though breakfast is long past. I am staying at my son’s house this week, but when I get home…Too bad about the dragon fruit. How can such a beautiful piece of food be so boring?

Ooh, I think that breakfast salad is what we’re having for dinner tomorrow. Our CSA has been giving us so much cabbage I can’t keep up…and they gave us some new potatoes too. Perfect. Also, I love that bowl you have it in.

I gave a cabbage away to the in-laws for the same reason. I also have a Taco Salad recipe on the blog that uses cabbage. You might like it: http://cleaneatsfastfeets.com/2015/08/14/quick-and-easy-vegetarian-taco-salad-recipe-with-cabbage/

Yay for getting your kitty cuddles back! Though Squish is much gentler now with the cats, she’s loud and energetic and runs everywhere which means the cats basically hang out high up in their cat tower until her naptime. Then then descend and cuddle. And omg I had fried buffalo cauliflower “wings” for the first time last week. With a ranch dipping sauce. I need those again in my life soon, they were so good!

Fried Buffalo cauliflower is life changing.

Oscar is amazing with Ave. He lets her pick him up every so often, which looks more like a choke hold. We’re working on it.

I love my CSA. It is and was life changing. I could never go back now, even if I have way too much produce in my fridge at this very second.
