More Random Ramblings and Senseless Mutterings

April 16, 2015 by Meghan 38 Comments

It’s been far too long since I’ve spewed a litany of words out of my pie hole.

Alright fine, I engage in this particular activity daily, mostly with myself. What can I say? Someone’s gotta entertain me.

Enter more Random Ramblings and Senseless Mutterings.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve written one of these bad boys, and for whatever reason, you guys really seem to like these posts. I’m still not entirely sure why, but I do aim to please whenever possible. Unless of course you’re an ax murderer asking to be invited in. Then I will politely decline and send you on your way with a cookie or a slice of cheese, not the good cheese though. I reserve that for special occasions, like Tuesdays.

Thanks for letting me Think Out Loud today, Ms. Amanda.

Thinking-Out-Loud

I’ll take any excuse to write in list form. Cackle, cackle.

1) I ran out of bananas last week, which is a travesty in and of itself. In an attempt never to let this horror happen again, I bought extra this week. This is for the next seven days.

Bananas2) While some might suggest I went overboard (cough, the Hubby, cough), we all know prevention is the best medicine. Besides, if there’s any left, I’ll freeze those suckers or make muffins.

No Sugar Carrot Cake Muffins3) Speaking of bananas, the real reason my supply ran dry is because my latest love affair with this Peanut Butter Chocolate Smoothie. I’m hooked worse than a cat on nip.

Chocolate Date Smoothie

4) I blame Spoons for my newest obsession. After all she’s the one who lured me to the dark side a couple of months ago and now I’m on a downward spiral to Chocolate Smoothieville, sandwiched somewhere between Pleasure Island and  Funky Town.

5) ♫ Won’t you take me to Funky Town? Won’t you take me to Funky Town? ♫

Know any good support groups?

6) On April 3rd, I ate tempeh for the first time. That same evening, I also ingested bacon, my first deliberate meat consumption in years. I always said it would be bacon.

Tempeh and Bacon Nature's Bin Five for Friday

I had an unfamiliar, although not problematic, rattle in my stomach later that night. I think it was the tempeh.

7) First chocolate smoothies, then bacon. Clearly, I am out of control; a raging maniac. I can’t even fathom what’s next. Oh wait, that’d be this.

Artichoke Cheese Dip TrayI’m referring to the cheesy artichoke concoction in the Polish pottery. Packed with protein (Beefcake!) and fiber, this is one recipe you don’t want to miss, and it’s coming tomorrow.

8) While snack platters really are my ideal dinner, sometimes I settle for bagels piled high with cream cheese. Samantha’s team bagel.

Bagels and Samantha

9) And because I wouldn’t want Oscar to get jealous…yeah, I’m pretty sure he stalks my blog when I’m at the office all day. It’s either that or sleep, and we all know cats are known for being internet creepers.

Oscar Catnip and Chives

He is thrilled to discover his own personal catnip plant from last year is actually a perennial. Confession: I’m tickled too since I had no idea.

10) Last but never least, I missed National Siblings Day last week. I also just found out such an occasion existed, although it does explain the lovely text message I got from my brother. Not this brother, but it’s a cute picture.

Young Meghan and Colin

My kicks rock, although the dress is a little scandalous, considering I’m flaunting my kneecaps for all to see.

11) Not much has changed since then.

Meg T-Shirt Your turn. Share some random ramblings and senseless mutterings with me. Or better yet, tell me what it is about these posts you enjoy.

Running out of bananas is the worst. Or eggs. Complete disaster.

The first meat my veggie friend ever ate was bacon, if you’re gonna do it you may as well do it properly right?

I’m writing this sat on the grass in the park eating my lunch trying to pretend I’m not cold… Spring IS here, it is it is…. I’m freezing.

You know I wholeheartedly approve of your banana stash — it looks really similar to mine šŸ˜† And I just loaded up yesterday too after coming a little too close for comfort to being completely out of them. The smoothies really are a problem. But a delicious one. Speaking of which, it’s probably time I made one for breakfast. But a fruity one. Even I can’t do chocolate first thing in the morning.

So I’m currently surrounded by a lot of browning bananas. I think it’s a good problem to have. I’ll probably freeze most of them for smoothie purposes and perhaps whip up a batch of muffins too.

I’m currently out of bananas! The think with my family is that you never know if we’ll all eat 2 every day for 5 days or none, so buying them is a little risky. This week we went through 12 in 3 days. For 5 people that’s actually not much at all. I just hate buying 20 bananas at a time, seems bizarre šŸ™‚

Did I miss a post about your interest in eating meat now? If not and you don’t want to discuss it, totally cool. I know veggie eating/meat eating is highly personal.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried Seitan either. Mainly because I don’t really like the texture of most meat so I tend to avoid it and all substitutes. Bacon on the other hand is something I’ve always loved so when I switched to a meatless diet, I was sad to see my bacon go. I always knew someday I would eat it again, and I guess that day has come. šŸ™‚ That’s pretty much the whole story with that.

When I first got to Malaysia, I did the exact same thing as you did with your banana stash- restocking it and then some. Except in Malaysia fruit ripens in approximately 2 hours and it’s a race against the clock to finish it in time. Challenge accepted.

I’ve been dreaming of that artichoke dip since you posted it on Instagram way back when. Gimme gimme.

Aaand now it’s time to get back to work. My birthday is next week and I’m taking a little mini vacay that involves a party with lots of friends I haven’t seen in a long time. So trying to concentrate from now until then is going to be tough.

GTFO. I had no idea catnip was a plant. I mean I guess I didn’t think it was anything… just a magical concoction made of ground up bits of cat that made still living cats flip the f out. Wow! You just made my day. I’m planting catnip tonight for all of the zero cats I’ve ever had and will probably ever have.

I loveeee tempeh, in fact just the last few days I’ve been eating so much. A few days ago I ate the whole package. I am in awe and admiration of that banana stock…so legit. You can NEVER have too many, and yes the freezer or BREAD is the best spot for those that ripen a litter quicker than you can eat. I enjoy all your posts, and these are fun because I enjoy random. back to your post and my point… so #6. YES!!!! i literally squealed out loud. like a little piggy! i can’t believe you haven’t had tempeh, and of course don’t get me started with bacon. ugh. i am truly happy eating plants 90% of the time, but gimme some good wine and throw down some bacon on a friday night, there is a chance that piggy nugget is goin down the hatch. sorry piglet šŸ™ i pray for all the souls. tempeh, well that’s certainly a head-scratcher, no? i bought some tempeh from TJ’s last year and still haven’t decided if i like it. i cooked it every way i could and still haven’t made up my mind, which doesn’t say much for team tempeh. sorry not sorry.
