Week in Review: The One with Juli and Stefan (#46)

August 29, 2016 by Meghan 36 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

Week In Review Button Final

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

Last week was damn awesome, mainly because we had the good fortune to have Juli and her hubby Stefan stay with us for several days. They’re pretty much the perfect house guests, and as a result we had an easy-going, relaxed vibe all week with lots of laughter, toffee filled candies, coffee, and beer. You can’t beat that combo or the fact they left me on Saturday with delicious morsels of chocolaty goodness. I’d share some with you except I ate it all…five minutes after they left.

Stefan, Juli and Meg

Juli and Meg

Meg, Juli and Stefan

In addition to being wonderful company, they helped me cook dinner on multiple occasions or sometimes (cough, most times, cough) made the entire meal while I nursed or hung out with the baby. You gotta work for your food at my place. Either that or watch Ave.

Blackberry Peach Grilled Goat Cheese Sandwich

(Blackberry Peach Grilled Goat Cheese Sandwich; this one was a group effort.)

Speaking of which, they did their fair share of that too.

Ave Levitating

(“And for my next trick, I will levitate.”)

We also spent countless hours trying to get my stubborn child down for a nap. Clearly she gets this willful streak from the Hubby. Alright fine, it’s all me, although for the record, I’m a fabulous sleeper.

Ave Sneer

(“You talking to me.”)

They even let her hang out with them, quite literally.

Stefan and Ave

(Stefan is a natural.)

They didn’t get upset either when we discovered our road trip destination didn’t exist or when our travel snacks became a picnic on private property. We had the baby with us for this particular excursion, so I figured our chances of getting arrested were slim to none.

Picnic with Juli and Stefan at Chippewa Lake

We all embraced our inner child and frolicked in the fountains. Hey Juli, white shirts and water is a recipe for Girls Gone Wild, you naughty minx, you.

Juli and Meg in the Fountain

After several attempts, Juli finally made friends with Oscar.

Day 3 of Becoming Friends with Oscar

And we all enjoyed the occasional meal out alongside a handful of cocktails.

Cauliflower Nachos at PB Social

Cocktails

My favorite moments though were our early morning bowls of oatmeal or our late night leisurely dinners after Ave was in bed (no offense kid), where we hung out, drank beer, took silly selfies, and talked for hours.

Juli and Meg as Puppies

It’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

Picnics are sometimes my favorite meals, especially if a cocktail is involved and some pretty scenery.

What a divine and fun week!! That’s exactly how I imagine a perfect vacation, morning bowls of oats and evening chats and cocktails. How blissfully gorgeous 🙂
Lulu spent the first part of the week growing and sleeping less and eating more, then by the end of the week she was still eating more but thankfully sleeping more as well. My sanity restored, hallelujah. We took our first road trip to granny’s house, my in laws, about an hour outside Houston. Lulu was a champ. Mommy was a ball of nerves and anxiety. I’m still learning, right now I prefer us being at home so these trips require adjustment for me. Baby steps for mom and baby!

I think we should change the Wu-Tang song to be “Overtired baby ain’t nothing to mess with.”

I white knuckled the steering wheel the entire time we were driving on Ave’s first brief road trip. I was a total mess. Keep doing it though; it gets easier.

    Meghan,
It looks like you all had a wonderful time. I’m glad!
I accomplished 3 big things last week–my first sponsored post (go quick to my pizza recipe and take a short Ohio Pork survey so you’re entered to win a Le Creuset Dutch oven), my first Official canning class (you were my practice one, my friend), and I managed to process 30 pounds of tomatoes into 8 pints of salsa + 7 quarts of crushed tomatoes in about 26 hours after I brought them home.
Then I went out for margaritas with my fellow military spouses cuz I earned it.
Now I’m gonna work and volunteer and work and work some more so that I don’t even get to see my kid during her hour long lunch.
    Frowns.

    Have a lovely week!

I just emailed your Blackberry Peach Grilled Goat sandwich that literally looks like heaven to myself. Your timing is impeccable because just YESTERDAY I was that lady in the cheese aisle, staring at every single combination, wanting to buy something different but just couldn’t think of what to make. You literally just made my day.

Visitors are always fun 🙂 Esp when they enjoy snacks, drinks, and baby Ave — looks like a fabulous time!

K, I need to go back to the grocery store stat!

Holy crap, Stefan IS a natural!!! I love the pic of Oscar! What a little stinker! And as usual, Ave’s photos are killing me. SO CUTE I DIE. I’m so glad you had a fun week with friends! I didn’t take any pics this last week and it was kinda crappy so I’m skipping today’s WIR. I hope you’ll forgive me.

Love a friendship that happily goes with whatever a plan morphs into when the original sort of falls away! The grilled goat cheese and fruit sandwich is going to get a workout in my kitchen very soon. It’s a delectable creative combination that is simple yet beyond my imagination! I’d have never dreamt it. It looks luscious and I can’t wait to try with some ripe Michigan peaches and blueberries!

Anyone that Ave trusts holding her and is that relaxed, truly is a natural!

Thank-you for the fun read, and the stunner yet simple recipe. My week was mostly spent on a business trip with my husband. He works and I lounge around in the nice hotel and eat meals out. It’s a great semi-retirement gig for him. And me!

Do not worry Meghan, the footloose and fancy free life will return to you also! But only if you do your parenting ‘job’ properly 🙂 just kidding, we are always holding our breath that one of our four will return to our cozy nest! Perhaps we should have downsized into a home without a guest bedroom? Initially we believed that going from a large 4000 sq. feet down to 2000 two years ago was a big cut. It was not. (According to our IL property tax bill)

Sounds like an awesome time with friends – it can be so nice to get out of your normal routine and just relax when you have friends staying with you.

Funny about your picnic on private property! Once on a canoe trip we were desperate for a spot to camp and ended up sleeping over on private property – whoops lol.

3 things I accomplished last week: demolished a huge batch of caponata I didn’t think I’d be able to finish, finally posted my NYC recap, and tried to do a bit of running on one of my walks.

I think it’s awesome that you and Juli got to spend the week together. I’ve yet to get the chance to meet a blogger IRL, but it looks so fun! I’ll bet Mom enjoyed having someone to take over on the Ave front now and again too.
Sorry about your day trip, though! I like how you still made a fun (and only slightly morally compromised) adventure out of it . 😉

Adding to the list of things I want to do: pinch Ave’s leg chub, eat that grilled cheese, wet t-shirt contest, stand on a snail, and have handfuls of cocktails. Oh, and I wanna play with the cat. Don’t tell Evie.
