Week in Review (#59)

November 28, 2016 by Meghan 51 Comments

Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

Week In Review Button Final

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

Ave and I went to my happy foodie place, the West Side Market, where we stocked up on my favorites: fruit, veggies and cheese.

ave-west-side-market-november-2016

By the time we got home, she had completely filled her diaper and her jeans with you know what. I’m not sure what it is about these pants, but every time she wears them, she blows them out.

ave-and-the-converse-november-2016

On another and no way related note, Ave dabbled in the world of peanut butter with her first batch of pancakes. I used this recipe, sans salt, and I excluded the chocolate chips and maple syrup from her phat stack. One day she will forgive me.

These fluffy pancakes are packed with the rich and decadent combination of peanut butter and chocolate.

I hosted my mother for a quick overnight visit. She spent Thanksgiving with us at the in-laws house.

thanksgiving-dinner-2016

Ave got in on the festivities and destroyed some turkey. She was so well behaved she almost made up for her many random middle of the night sleep interruptions. Let’s just say we’ve been having issues.

In an attempt to wear her out, the tiny human and I bundled up, braved the cold and went for a walk. I froze my tush off, while she laughed like a loon; go figure.

ave-winter-jacket-november-2016

Speaking of exercise, I worked out not once, not twice, but three times last week. I dusted off the elliptical in our basement and got my non-ass ass moving.

To balance things out, I curled up fireside as much as possible.

I watched the entire first season of Downton Abbey; obsessed would be putting it mildly.

I also had a Gilmore Girls date with one of the besties. Ave crashed the party.

gilmore-girls-and-cheese-board

I passed on posting new blogs in favor of working on my BlogLovin’ feed. I missed you crazy peeps.

Last but not least, I made a double batch of Broccoli Mac and Cheese and a handful of Candied Roasted Almonds.

Packed with ooey gooey cheese, lots of flavor, and loads of broccoli, this is comfort food at its finest.

Candied Roasted Almonds

All in all, it was a good week.

It’s your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

I think I see the fruits of your cheese market shop nestled cozily in front of your fire. To say I am jealous of everything in that image would be an understatement. In fact I’m really liking the amount of cheese that is spread through this entire post. Even Ave got in on cutting some apparently? Ha… ha.
Sounds like many good things happened last week. Congratulations and fist bumps to all!

Haha! I used to hide the sweets in my closet because I had four kiddos that eat faster than me! But stashing away cheese in a closet…could become a smelly and unhealthy proposition! Nah..who are we kidding! It won’t last that long! These days I’d choose cheese over sweets any day.

    Meg,
You have me stuck on those shoes. I heart Ave’s pink converse sneakers! Reminds me of taking my teenage niece to about 4 (or 72) stores looking for ‘just the right color’ of converse high tops while she was visiting the US.

In the end, she went with red. But only after an exhaustive search. Well, I was exhausted at least.

I accomplished a bunch this week–2 recipes plus a recap of my trip to an Ohio hog farm (where I did not see any pigs but I ate real well). I’m wiped out by the interrupted sleep, though–at MIL’s we had the dogs in our room and that means that someone came to my bedside to inform me that he wanted to go sniff the back yard about every 2-3 hours. They took turns–Simon, Vincent, and Robert Barker–and Robert kept getting lost in the back yard despite a light by the back door. Sigh. Beauty that dog has got, but not brains . . .

my mom came with us to my in-laws for thanksgiving as well 🙂 we had quite the motley crew. too bad the we were missing vince neil. that would have been exhilarating. hugs to you for introducing us to the world of stars hollow. i have not been able to watch anything without a billion interuptions but finally made it through the first season. i didn’t mind re-watching a few (or every) episode a few times. i actually love having it on now, lulu seems to enjoy the music, colors, and witty banter. damn the girl has good taste.

This is where the teething sleep intrusions begin. PRAY to who ever you pray that this is as bad (which is good) as it gets! Maaybe you’ll escape the all day cranks! I sure hope you do, it takes the nonromance of motherhood down several notches.

I am pretty sure if you inspect the fave pipeline for poopy pants close enough, you’ll find one of two scinarios. The first being that there is just so much extra room that little Ave couldn’t possibly resist! I mean, a girl has to keep herself entertained somehow while Mom is ogling all of that cheese! The second being that those pants are ready for the donation pile! Kinda like a grownup trying stuff our whole muffintop into a pair of skinny jeans when clearly we need to be sporting Momjeans for a while longer. The poo has to go somewhere and if the jeans are not accommodating….

Getting down to the REAL business at hand… all that cheese! How did you choose? I am restricted in so many dietary things, post op at 10 days, but not cheese! Course I can’t have it on any healthy, fibrous, goodness, like whole grain anything, or vegetable or fruit! But I’m courting Black River Gorgonzola at the moment. Holy Cow! I’m perfectly satisfied with a tiny taste on the tip of a knife, or smear on a 1/4 of a hot, skinless baked spud! And few she WI cheese is only a 20 minute drive across the border. I do love their fresh, squeaky curds!

Black River Gorgonzola sounds like a good one to court. I had five different kinds of cheese out last night and I indulged in a little of each one, although the triple creme Brie might have stolen the cake.

She’s not teething yet, although she’s definitely having a sleep regression. She’s quite content so long as she can stay up and play. Le sigh. This too shall pass.

Good advice on the jeans. They are a little snug. I’ll add them to the too small pile.

The beanie hat is our favorite, especially because you can’t put kids in fluffy coats and then take them in the car. Who knew? Apparently it’s dangerous so it’s super important we keep that head warm.

    1. I celebrated my 65th birthday.
    2. Brought thanksgiving dinner to my son in Rochester, NY.
    3. Earned by Workout Warrior T-shirt at the JCC.
