Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
While Ave is still having some sleep issues, and we’ve added separation anxiety to our repertoire, I don’t actually have 99 problems. I simply couldn’t resist the opportunity to insert a little Jay Z into our lives. Besides can you believe this is my 99th Week In Review post? I’m impressed, especially since I blogged through the baby’s first weeks and postpartum depression. I’m giving myself two snaps and a twirl.
Without further ado, let’s get listing:
We kicked off last week in Franklinville, New York at my mother’s house. She hosted the entire family for a lovely outdoor dining experience complete with (root) beer, burgers and bumblebees.
Ave also had her first driving lesson. She’s a natural.
Once back at home, I spent a lot of time last week trying to tackle all the produce piling up in our fridge and on the counters; after getting a double share and being out of town, the amount of veggies I have on hand is indecent.
As such, I made a creamy tomato basil soup from scratch. It was finger licking good.
I made yet another batch of baked ratatouille with cheese and baba ganoush for the first time ever. There are three eggplants in that bad boy.
I made a holy crapton of buttermilk peach pancakes and peach muffins to give to a friend. I also visited with that same friend for a bit.
I got in a run and I swam laps on three separate occasions. This is my first time swimming in at least ten years, and it made me so damn happy. It’s my jam, filled with rainbows, unicorns, fudge brownies and popcorn. Oh and water because it’s a requirement.
I did a little online shopping, specifically for a new bathing suit because my current one is so old the elastic no longer works, and I’m sporting side boob every time I do butterfly or freestyle. Oops.
We had dinner at the in-laws one night, and we hosted them at our house another. My mother-in-law broke her foot, so we’ve been trying to help out as much as possible. At the same time, she gives us a break with the baby so it’s a win all around.
The Hubby and I did yard work one afternoon, and we planted our mums. Bring on the Fall, although not pumpkin. You can keep that over hyped nonsense.
I went on a random Thursday dinner date with the Hubby, where I failed to take pictures of the food. I did however consume an entire margarita in twelve seconds flat in an attempt to calm the burning flames emitting from my mouth due to consuming two significantly too spicy tacos. Ouch.
We hit up a Baby Bonanza sale on Saturday morning and that shit was bananas. Think super organized and over the top yard sale. I almost threw an elbow over a winter jacket. Thankfully, I kept my cool and bought a bunch of other stuff, including two coats and this adorable striped sweater dress.
On Saturday afternoon, we went to an outdoor community festival. We danced, we ate pizza, and we stalked the playground until we had a mini-meltdown over an exuberant toddler nearly pushing Ave down the slide.
The best part of my week though was the hubby. He’s still hanging at home with the baby and I while he recuperates from knee surgery. In fact, this is our last week together so we’ve been trying to make the most of it. As such, I made him take me out for a bit of romance last night. We saw Stephen King’s It in theaters. Considering I read the book at least twice, once as a child and again as an adult, this was my idea of a great time.
It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small. Any interest in seeing It? How do you handle pushy kids?
Patricia @Sweetandstrong says
Yay for Mums and Fall! I wanted to pick some up this weekend, but didn’t get around to it, but it’ll happen soon. And weekday dinner dates are the best. Margaritas and spicy tacos are my jam 🙂

So does the baba ganoush!!

You did the consignment sale thing!! You throw that elbow, my friend. P.S. I want a seat at your mom’s table. It looks lovely. Have I ever told you that Stephen King is one of my favorite authors? But IT is the one book I can’t get myself to read because I saw the movie way too young and it traumatized me. P.S. Welcome to the World, Baby Girl was AMAZING.

I’m so glad you liked Welcome to World, Baby Girl. It’s my favorite Fannie Flag book. I loved IT, but I don;t mind scary movies or books so there’s that. DId you ever read Dolores Clairborne? All this eclipse stuff reminds me of that book by Stephen King?

The outdoor dinner at your mom’s house looks whimsical. And is that savory granola I spy on top of the tomato soup? *drools* I usually stick with the milder Stephen King novels, and I haven’t read It yet. I think I want to, but I also want to sleep without fear of creepy things. What’s the scariness rating on a scale of one to ten?

Yes, it’s a Parmesan Rosemary granola, and it goes wonderfully with soups and salads. You can get the recipe here: http://cleaneatsfastfeets.com/2015/02/27/parmesan-rosemary-savory-granola/
It is pretty high up there on the scary scale. I remember being freaked out reading it late at night, so I’d give it 8 or 9 for sure. Totally worth the read though.

LOL “a bit of romance.” My roommate came home from watching it with her boyfriend, which took a whole lot of convincing in the first place, and said she was legitimately traumatized and had tears streaming down her face for most of the movie. So…I’ll probably stay away, though I’m sure it’s good 😉
All that produce; ugh! I’m so jealous. Seems like you sure put it to some good use though!

I love sweater outfits on babies! And I love going green and using what is already out there. As long as long it’s in wonderful condition and with kids growing like weeds that is often the case!
I make a lot of big hearty soups. We love soup! But for some reason, tomato soup scares me. I tried it once and it was watery and bland disappointing and I never got back to re-figuring a new recipe. I must be a sore loser. We have a small grocer that makes a daily soup and their tomato bisque is delightful! You do have to brush the roof of your mouth after though, to remove the film of heavy cream, so I stopped buying it.
I feel you on having the luxury of a home bound hubby! I am sure you’ll miss him a bunch. Mine worked out of the house for several years beginning when our youngest was about 7 and ending with jr. high. He took him to and from his school every day and they bonded on Fridays with after at the local ice cream shop then local hobby shop. He was extremely reluctant to go to school, sooooo. I got off easy and missed tears and the race of the electric car door locks with lady greeter who ‘helps’ the children out of the car and into school. Talk about separation anxiety!
Grandma Lala says
My mm took us 7 kids to the drive in, in 1963 to see a movie call “The Crawling Hand” where a hand breaks free of a grave and slides across the floor and strangles people who did wrongs to some man. I would have just 9 and spent much of the time with my face buried in Moms lap! Then got in trouble for leaving the door open in the bathroom for weeks while I was using it! I’m sure it was so hokey!
Meghan says
I think recycled clothes is the way to go when it comes to the little people. They grow out of everything so fast it seems a shame to waste money on brand new clothing. Plus, they practically roll around in the dirt, an initiation for toddlerhood if you will.
I remember going to the drive in theaters. I loved those, sitting under the stars, snacking on popcorn and watching a movie all at the same time. Those were the days.

I’ve got to try that savory granola of yours! You know who to call if you need some produce taken off your hands Yay for no longer flashing people mid-swim! And nopenopenope. I even had to quickly scroll past that It poster on your blog right now. I’m such a scaredy cat.
Some of my accomplishments this past week include: watching a ballet, whipping up some cookies for a pot luck, and the usual, weekly therapy sessions. Happy Monday!

Sounds like an awesome week! I’m dying to see IT! I’ve heard mixed reviews, but I have to see it… it was one of the first Stephen King books I ever read and I remember watching the movie at a friend’s house – her mom had taped the miniseries so we watched it together and I was slightly terrified. Haha!
Love the mums, but I’m with you – it’s way too early for all of this pumpkin nonsense and I’m not having it!!

I was terrified of the IT miniseries as a kid and then rewatched it in my later years and was surprised at how bad it actually was. Ha. Anyway I was hoping the movie would redeem itself and it sort of did. I thought it was really good (not great, but not just OK either). The Richie character was fabulous but I was slightly disappointed by the Henry Bower and Stan characters. They missed some big stuff in my opinion, but then again at 2 hours and 15 minutes, I’m not sure how much more they could have fit in. I’d love to hear what you think after seeing it.

don’t ask me how to handle pushy kids, I still haven’t figured out how to live with my son. HA. he was the most clingy little boy by the way. he hated to leave my side and cried the FIRST SIX WEEKS of preschool. but we may it through and now he prefers if I’m not home lol.
Meghan says
I don’t know how you made it through that. We’re trying to leave Ave at the playroom at the gym and thus far, it is not going well. She does not like to be with strangers (and I can’t really blame her). Sigh, at least you understand.

Ok, it took me way too long to parse what the “it” was in “Any interest in seeing It?” But I don’t do horror movies at all…not even a little bit creepy. Unless they’re on Mystery Science Theater, but even then it’s iffy.

You got back to swimming!!! That was me a month or so ago. I hadn’t swam in literally over ten years and I was so amazed at how awesome it felt! What a great way of moving your body eh? I hope you can continue going. With or without side boob.
I’m glad you and the hubs have had a lot of time together. It would be cruel of me to wish he had to stay in recovery for longer… but I do hope his return goes well and that he’s feeling ready.

I thank goodness ever day that David and I have the same taste in movies, and as such I don’t have to go and see movies like It. That kind of stuff scares the shit out of me. Apart from the whole clown thing. Never was scared of clowns… Maybe because I never saw or read It!!
Well done with getting through that veggie haul! I love baba ghanoush – I always picked it over hummus when I was in the Middle East… It’s that smokey-ness, so good!
Enjoy your swim time lovely. I always forget how calm and peaceful being in a pool can be.

Meg,
Baby Bonanza in Cleveland, Dani’s Duds in Northern VA–massive collections of previously owned kid stuff sold for less than brand new cost are wonderful. I still remember moving to Hawaii, knowing our stuff was on a boat and not due for months, and spying a red, yellow, & blue plastic kid picnic table at a yard sale our first weekend in the new home. We may have been living with borrowed furniture, but the toddlers had a kick ass table to eat, draw, paint etc. Such a win-win-win for everyone involved, and a terrific way to reduce reuse recycle too!
And boy do I hear ya on the pile up and subsequent processing of farm share food. Doing it here, and composting lettuce without shame.

In the meantime, a big crockpot full of chili put a lovely dent in my peppers and tomatoes. Now to tackle the kohlrabi….

I tried to get a bathing suit by the beginning of summer and couldn’t find a single one where I could fit in my boobs and still breathe.
I saw the old IT movie when I was 15 and it cured me of any wish to read the book or watch the new movie. I think it’s also in Stefan’s interest because he isn’t that keen on being woken up in the middle of the night and escort me to the bathroom 😛
We laughed so much when we saw Ave with her bottle in the car on IG!

i can just feel the joy radiating out of this post, it has all the feels. i love it. firstly, the shirt that Ave is wearing in her car.. it looks like it almost says, “Little ASs…..?” and my first thought was asshole? i’d get that shirt but i’m guessing that is not what it says. anhytime i see a word starting in AS i think asshole. because i’m an asshole i guess.
i love that you starting swimming!!! i can’t do that quite yet, i can only run because it requires no effort or extra time or stuff. life is down to each second and minute so i’m not giving up any more than i have to . but at least i can get in the running.. it helps my damn mind. i tell ya.
that baby bonanza sounds crazy but great. i LOVE that sweater!!! i want to check out this baby second hand shop one day when i have time. LOL that’s an oxymoron right????
i want to see It and have requested that my mom babysit one sunday afternoon.. her next opening is sunday 9/24. gotta love a busy mimi 🙂
hugs

I thought they were hilarious and very good little actors and actresses. That dip looks amazing! (I’m not going to try to spell it, but I’d probably eat the whole bowl)

I didn’t think IT was that scary either, although I had seen the previous miniseries and read the book a couple of times, so I knew what was coming. The kids were fabulous, especially Richie.
