Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
Last week was fairly normal. We weren’t traveling, we didn’t have any out of town guests or big shindigs, and yet we still managed to keep pretty busy. What can I say? A tiny human keeps you on the move.
It also keeps your house perpetually messy, which is why I vacuumed out my car and cleaned a few drawers in the fridge, both of which were long overdue.
(This is an old picture; my fridge doesn’t look nearly this good inside. Goals.)
I submitted my latest asparagus recipe to Food Gawker, and they accepted it. That’s the second one in just a handful of weeks. They must have gotten new, more lenient approvers or maybe I’m just that good. I’m going with the latter.
I curled up with Oscar for a movie and an episode of Project Runway. He’s a fan of high fashion, although against wearing fur coats, unless it’s his own; obviously.
I did a lot of things with the tiny human too. We went to story time at the library one day and tried our hand at arts and crafts another. We also did some monkeying around at music class.
We took advantage of the warm weather earlier in the week and hit up the playground. Afterward, we went out for ice cream, and Ave ate all of hers and her friend’s ice cream. In return, she gave him her cone. It doesn’t seem like a fair trade to me, but they were happy.
I went to another foodie event, sponsored by Mouthwater Media at Yuzu, an Izakaya inspired bar. This place has been on my bucket list for months now, and it did not disappoint. I slurped my first ramen and was delighted with the cocktail menu. I’m already plotting my return and what I want to eat and drink next.
We did another preschool tour with the kiddo, and this time with the in-laws in tow, followed by a nice brunch out and a trip to Target for pull up diapers. My child is getting grown.
I also did a handful of my own cooking last week. I made another batch of snickerdoodle granola, kiwi muffins, a round of balls, creamy tomato basil soup, drop biscuits, and a broccoli cheese lasagna.
There were other things too, of course, like a Friday night fish fry and enough adulting to give me a stomachache. Where does all the dirty laundry come from, and why is my kitchen floor perpetually crunchy or sticky no matter how many times I clean it?
I’d like to end things on a positive note, so it’s worth mentioning I got in five workouts last week. Hooray for me and my swoobs (i.e. boob sweat).
Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What is something you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.

I feel you! I have by far underestimated how busy it can get when you don’t have a job. In Australia, I was 100% convinced that I would get cabin fever 5 minutes after coming back home but now I wish I would have a day without any plans.
I love all the foodie events you’re going to recently. I need to find out if anything like that is existing here.
High five for getting your recipe accepted to foodgawker and 5 workouts! I am going to start again this week and I am excited 🙂
Hugs and kisses :-*

Sometimes I can’t believe how many activities we do in a single week when I stop to recap it. It’s also why those days Ave spends with grandma and grandpa are so valuable to me. It’s my time, my recharge and refresh period.
Good luck with the exercise. It feels to get back into it. Good for my sanity mostly. 🙂

I saw you IG video of Ave at the dance studio and laughed out loud—those pull-ups at the barre were impressive! Also, I’m going to make those kiwi muffins this week

I really liked the kiwi muffins although personally I’d use a little less sugar the next time I make them. They’re plenty sweet and I’d rather share them with Ave with as a breakfast snack than as a dessert.

The mundane weeks are often busiest I think. They’re when we get all the stuff done that there isn’t time for during the more exciting weeks. I guess the chores do need to be done sometime….
And your old fridge pic is definitely fridge goals.
Meghan says
I did a lit bit more fridge organizing this week so it’s closer to my goals. Progress, not perfection right?

Your IG stories when you were at the ramen place got me through a work shift. You slurping may be the most classy thing. Thank you for that. Can I make this place my first choice for when I come visit you? (after the Breadsmith, of course). My new found love of ramen aside, that drink menu is basically the smartest thing I’ve ever seen… what was the rest of the title, “Millenials are…..” #allsotrue.
I’d love an ice cream date with Ave – especially at that super cute looking parlor. I may have trouble sharing though. We’d have to order a third scoop.
Congrats on the swooby sessions!! You’re rockin this lady!
Lastly – broccoli cheese lasagne? Gimme gimme.

Oh we’ll most definitely go to Yuzu when you and Dan come, and about twelve other foodie places because YUM.
I can’t remember what the rest of the menu said Millenials are like, so we’ll have to take note when we go.
Ave is already excited for your upcoming visit. Alright fine, that might just be me. 🙂

You are just a ‘go getter’ gal Meg! I love how you got to clean the fridge and the car this week. Those are two spaces that are so often used, but it’s hard to set aside time to clean them.

Of course you are just that good! Food Gawker needs to come on over to your house and sift through all of your recipes and I’d bet my right arm that a whole lot of them would be published. I have so many favorites and I am sure if I weren’t so lazy, I could have more. I need to visit that particular site. I have regularly ‘read’ Taste Spotting for fun and recipes for years, (it’s a time sucker) but up until you, I have never known about Food Gawker!
Lucky Ohioans! We’ve had noooo such weather for short sleeves, inside or out. I am still wearing two sleeve tees with a saggy cardigan. Inside. At least I don’t shove a Kleenex up my sleeve. I’m waiting until I turn 70 and it won’t be nose wipers, it’s going to be napkins because the older I get the discover little plops of lunch on my top later long after, like when I’m out shopping and have no access.
I made and shared with my working daughters family a not-recipe of vegetarian chili! It turned out so good I wish I’d kept track of the spices and herbs that I added. Drat! It had so many roasted vegetables in there it was almost a stew, but it was chili in its heat level and seasoning! A big hit that Ill likely never be able to recreate.
Meghan says
It’s funny, I don’t think any chili or soup I’ve ever made has tasted quite the same. It’s a blessing and a curse when it comes to those savory bowls of goodness.
Food Gawker normally rejects my pictures. They have a different eye when it comes to styling so we’re rarely on the same wave length. In their defense, some of the pictures they publish are absolutely stunning, far beyond my capabilities, and I’m OK with that. I’m not trying to be a professional photographer. I just need the pictures to look tasty enough that people want to make and eat the recipes.
I left the house yesterday with hummus all over my pants. In my defense, it was Ave’s grubby little hands that put it there. 🙂

Certainly no such thing as a mundane or boring week with a toddler or child! Or baby. I finally decided that next month I’m going to pause the classes and just embrace alllllll of our many many museum and zoo memberships. She has her many neighborhood friend groups and hasn’t been enjoying the classes as much as I’d like so I’m not going to force it upon her any longer. She’s got such a full dance card that momma needs a break. I guess I wanted to get her to try all the things but now realize all the things is slightly too much. Little ones really just wanna play. At least mine. She’s got plenty. We’ve got plenty. This goes along with my desire to simplify our lives right now so I’m in theme.
Food wise I’m feeling awesome cuz I made a vegan pot pie without a recipe and it was da bomb! Oh yeah I’m totally feeling like a champ 🙂 happy Monday mama
Meghan says
Ave loves her music class and story time at the library , or else we wouldn’t go either. She talks about them all week long. Do what works for you and Lulu Belle though. If it’s embracing the museums and bumping the classes, I say go for it. I’m with you when it comes to simplifying life. We all could use some of that.

That is some fridge perfection in that photo there. On the weekend my husband and I took the toddler for a walk on a local frozen river trail. There were all the things she loved out – skating, dogs, kids, bikes. She keeps talking about it since Saturday. That might have been the last day it’s open this season though; there has been some serious melt over the last few days.
Meghan says
And here I’m waiting for the melting so we can hit up the playground regularly again. It’s all about the activities isn’t it? How old is your little one?

Hope the second preschool tour went well and the in-laws were impressed.
I saw you made your biscuits with cheddar on Instagram… Hello new reason for me to make another batch! Hmmm cheddar and spring onion me thinks… Yeah that has to be done.
Also, let’s face it, any future fridge goals should simply be to have a stock of crabbies ginger beer. Whiskey and crabbies… Where would the world be without these two wonderful creations?! (Never mind we also invented the TV, telephone, steam engine, bicycle, penicillin….)

I suppose penicillin is pretty important although drop biscuits might be a close second. 🙂 I was actually thinking of a new one with green onions, blue cheese and hot sauce. Sort of a spin on chicken wings, without the actual chicken.
Cheers to Crabbie’s and whiskey.
