Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
Let’s get listing:
We went to our home away from home, Breadsmith, which on the surface isn’t that unusual, considering we make multiple trips there a week. This time though, we rode our bike, and it made the samples that much sweeter (and sweatier).
A new grocery store opened in our area, so we had to check it out; twice. We got lucky at Lucky’s Market and this entire haul only cost $78. Anytime I can escape a food shopping adventure for less than one hundred dollars, it’s a win.
A few days later, we stopped by the Frostville Farmers Market and scored some strawberries, which literally melt in your mouth. I should know, I ate an entire pint for lunch one day.
Ave and I also taste tested our way through Goldie’s Donuts and Bakery, a new locally owned business which just opened a few weeks ago. It’s family owned and operated, which makes my hippy heart happy. My favorite part, aside from the apple fritters and the sour cream morsels, is they have a drive through window. Coffee and or donuts without even leaving the comfort of your car; amazing.
For my part, the tastiest thing I made last week was Laura’s Hummus Baked Falafel using this Morockin’ Carrot Hummus. It was so simple to put together and paired perfectly with a bowl of greens and tzatziki sauce. This recipe is definitely going in the rotation.
The weather was picture perfect last week, so we broke out the grill and dined al fresco, underneath a canopy of flowers from our Dogwood tree. It was magical.
Of course, the nicer weather equates to more yard work, including another round with the lawn mower, potting petunias and a date with a planter of potatoes.
I also did a little sprucing up around the house. After forty years of life, I finally acquired two “nice” laundry hampers, mostly because my old plastic joints were falling apart. Not to be outdone, I did some touch up painting in the kitchen.
Last week wasn’t all work with no play though. The Hubby and I took Ave to an event called Crafty Kids, where we got to try art projects, eat free ice cream and get our faces (or arms) painted. It was the tiny dictators first time getting inked, and she took it like a champ.
After having a random and rough start to Saturday morning, Ave and I fled to the in-laws, where they made everything better…with margaritas, for me, not her.
Having fully recovered, we spent the better part of Sunday frolicking outside and lounging by our fancy blow up pool. I legit broke a sweat blowing that thing up. I’m calling it my cardio.
Last but least, I made it a point to sit down and write, something I haven’t done in forever, even if it was mostly about nothing. It felt good to flex my creative side. I also played around with my camera a little bit, and while I clearly have no idea what I’m doing, I like this picture.
It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What is something you accomplished in the last week? Big or small. Have you put your garden in yet? What’s in it? What’s your favorite donut?
Laurie says
It looks like you and I share an affinity for fresh strawberries! I am always amazed at your ability to document your week. I am a terrible, forgetful picture-taker. After a life event, I usually wind up smacking the side of my head and thinking “I should have taken pictures!”

The toddler is my motivation for all the pictures. Also when the camera fails, my planner usually helps me remember what all we did.

Oh my gosh so many things this week. Isn’t summer amazing?
– we are grocery peek twins this week. You got all that for 78$!?! #illegal
– we are also berry sisters. I’m inhaling pints of berries like they’re my life line.
– I’m so stoked you’re biking
– Can you bike up to that bakery drive through window!? Please!?
– And grab me a donut. That’s got to be the cutest shop ever.
– I know you love your lawn mowing. So your outside work sounds like maybe it was also enjoyable?
– You got around to doing your touch up painting! You’ve been wanting to do this for so long I remember you telling me!
– Is Ave going to surpass you in the tattoo department I wonder…
All around. What a week. Major sunny twirls for you.

Sadly, I cannot bike to Goldie’s donuts from my house since it’s on the complete other side of Cleveland. I can bike to Breadsmith though and the area farmers market and the grocery store and nursery so all my other favorite places basically. 🙂 Also I ordered a basket for my bike to make carrying all the stuff easier.
We definitely were twinning last week and I love it.

Oh last week was a blur. Wait this is your point of this right? To remember? Ok delayed reactions on fire today.
So great to have all the nice food stores to visit. Lulu likes Whole Foods but I’ve been using instacart for my shopping for a year now. I love it in that way I can get so much more shit done way but miss certain things like sampling. Having your in laws near with that amazing garden is magic!! Such a gorgeous garden. Goes nicely with your Rita.
Lulu noticed my tattoos when she was a tiny tot on the bathtub and now doesn’t even care but she started to take markers and draw all over her arms and legs and it freaks my OCD hubby out. He’s afraid of markers for Christ sake. Is it evil that I just laugh? It’s not good for us so eve tried to become a marker free home. The little lulu always finds a way to outsmart us.. she can make a mess out of literally anything. It’s fun for my OCD side as well
Meghan says
Ave colored all over the door in pen so your Hubby has every reason to be afraid. I live in horror of the day she discovers where the permanent markers are hidden.
She loves mommy’s new star though. 🙂

I’m with you on the apple fritters….best part of any donut shop. Good food and outdoor time are the best antidotes to a busy week. My plans to finish up the garden this weekend were delayed because my baby plants got sunburnt…so now I’m trying to acclimate them more gradually before they go in.
Meghan says
Apple fritters are my favorite, hands on. Glad to see we think alike.

That little inflatable pool with the awning is so cute! Want one! We have just started our drive back from a vacation in the mountains. She did really well on the way out but I know that means nothing for the way back. Lol. It’s a 14 hour drive so we will see! I’m armed with new toys, books, and snacks. For us as well as her!
Meghan says
14 hours!!!! Oh my goodness. How did it go?

We broke it up into two 7 hour days, but better than expected actually!!
Meghan says
Hooray. Better than expected equals a major travel win.

I’m honored to be in your rotation! I still feel like I need Ave’s approval though. 😉
I meant to go get strawberries from the farmer’s market Saturday but that didn’t happen. I really want peaches too. They’re perfect right now. Instead, I’m laying on the couch, listening to the rain. A margarita would be a nice addition… 😉
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
I love a good juicy peach. Sometimes I grill them and put them on a toasted cheese sandwich with blackberry jam and goat cheese. 🙂

We always get the quarts of strawberries at the farmer’s market and polish them off while we’re there. My new favorite thing to pick up is the homemade granola! Though still not as good as yours.
P.S. I secretly keep wIting for a baby #2 announcement. I know. I know. TOO SOON ☺️
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
I feel like I’ve passed the prime for baby number 2. I’m not sure everything would work out as swimmingly as Ave AND I’m not sure I have the stamina.

I would beg to differ on the subject of your supposed cluelessness with a camera. I LOVE the dogwood picture. Absolutely magical. Followed closely by the margarita/pansy/fairy garden shot. Beautiful! Good to see Ave starting off right. Thank goodness for in-laws! Have a great week.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
Why thank you. I think that was more about the subject than my photography skills though. I’ll take it anyway. 🙂

Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
I will take all the donuts and cupcakes with a nice hot cup of coffee. 🙂

Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
My local bakery that I love closed its doors a couple of weeks ago. I stocked the freezer with my favourite sourdough bread but I don’t know what I’m going to do when it’s all finished. I was so sad to say goodbye to it. But I guess an opportunity to try somewhere new and, luckily, we have plenty to choose from in Perth.
Those doughnuts look amazing, as do the cookies. Love an oatmeal and raisin cookie! I just love it when you hear of small family business are still starting and succeeding in this day and age. Always my first port of call when it comes to where I spend my dollars!
Hope you’re having a fab week lovely.

And it’s one of the many reasons I love you; we both put our dollars where they matter, back into the community, through small businesses.
Also you need to get a starter and make your own sourdough. I bet you’d be quite good at it.
