What I Ate Wednesday appeals to the voyeur in me for more than just perverse reasons.
For real, I get a big ol’ kick out of these posts.
Not literally of course, because masochism isn’t my thing. Although if it tickles your fancy, I say rock on with your bad self. When it comes to bedroom shenanigans, anything goes. The same can be said for our WIAW parties, so long as a full day of edibles makes an appearance.
From foreplay to food. Now that’s a smooth transition. Bow chick-a-wow-wow.
I am utterly fascinated by the bits, the bobs, the bites, and the bowls of food people consume in a single day, which is one of the many reasons I love Jenn’s WIAW party. It’s also why she asked me to host again. She likes to indulge my food stalking ways, triggering a litany of burning questions* which run through my mind faster than the time it takes to wipe the drool from my chin.
*The author is taking creative liberties and being a bit dramatic. No questions were harmed in the making of this post.
Do they cook every meal from scratch?
Where are they getting all these sweet potatoes?
Should I be dumping oatmeal in nearly empty nut butter jars?
How did they get those baked fries so crispy and golden?
What’s the secret in the sauce?
Are snack plates acceptable meals? (I think so).
Do they sometimes eat cereal for dinner too? (Guilty as charged)
How did they get their avocado to do that?
Where’s all the cheese?
As a result of my own inquisitive ways, I thought it’d be fun to share a different kind of day with you, one where I spent the majority of my time in a car. Therefore, I give you the Sunday before last when I drove three hours to mother’s house for dinner and proceeded to drive three hours back home. If you lure me with food, I will come.
First Breakfast: a giant glass of water, then coffee, at least two cups, always with a little almond milk and raw sugar, followed by a three-mile run.
Second Breakfast: a fruit filled smoothie with a dollop of Greek yogurt, a generous scoop of flax powder and a nip of bee pollen.
Third Breakfast (er, I mean Lunch): a two scrambled egg and jalapeno cheese sandwich on an English Muffin.
Dinner (at my mom’s): We had potatoes and roasted root vegetables, asparagus with cheese sauce, homemade bread with pesto and a side salad covered in gorgonzola and avocado. There was also some kind of meat for the carnivores although I can’t remember what it was. Anyway, my actual plate is the top left picture.
Dinner Continuation: a standard size slice of this Savory Carrot and Tarragon Tart.
Dessert: a small piece of this chocolate layer cake with buttercream frosting.
Post cake: we went for a hike in the woods and foraged for ramps. Mission accomplished.
Snacks: on the ride home, I polished off all the banana chips, the dates and one of the oranges from the picture below. I also drank a small bucket of coffee.
There you have it. A day of road tripping eats, in the legal sense of course.
Alright enough about me. Let’s hear from you.

I’m with you that WIAW posts are my favorite to write and read 🙂 it’s great to get ideas and see what people do when they’re in a rush/eating out, etc. like how I need major smoothie help because that’s a mental block for me, love getting inspired. All your food looks awesome as usual, and love the post dinner hike!

I love smoothies for their fruity delight and ease of consumption. 🙂 I’m not really hungry right away so they help ease me into my day, along with coffee. 🙂

Dayyyy-umn son- that savoury tart looks all kinds of fabulous! I see where you get your culinary skills from- you mom doesn’t mess around! I’m glad to see that I’m not the only food overpacker during travel. On my flight back from China, I am almost certain that 80% of my hand carry was food – no shame in my game…and fortunately nothing got confiscated!!!

Is it strange that after reading your WIAW, the main thing I’m craving is a cup of coffee? 😆 Clearly I’m due for my morning cup… preferably with a slice of chocolate cake. But seriously… your travel eats are better than some of my at-home eats! And you don’t even want to see how basic I get when I travel… although maybe you got a good picture when we were in TO 😉 Speaking of whack… 3 MORE WEEKS!!

I feel like I leave a lot of cynical comments on your blog, but I’m really not a cynical person!! 🙂
All I have to say is that I’ve never done WIAW because I have in the past found it alarming how little people eat, or how restrictive their diets are. I think we’ve had this discussion in comments before about “healthy living” bloggers.
(I will check out some posts – I haven’t looked at WIAW in years so it could be better!)
Also, the photography is (was) generally awful. I’m like, “Is that a blurred picture of runny poop, or a blurred picture of oatmeal with a plethora of nut butters?”

Yeah that can be a common thing in the HLB community, especially when it comes to WIAW and while some of that still exists and will likely always exist, there’s some great stuff in there too. Um hello, egg and jalapeno sammie on an English Muffin. Carrot tart. Oh wait, those are mine. 🙂
If you look, I bet you’ll find some inspiration.

I’d love to go picking my wild garlic but it kinda freaks me out. You hear stories from time to time that people mistake wild garlic, end up with poisonous plants and push up the daisies next thing! So I choose the safe way and get mine from the grocer.

Bee pollen has a ton of health benefits, although I’m not sure how solid the research is yet. It’s supposed to be especially great for folks with seasonal allergies. Here’s a good bit of info on it: http://foodmatters.tv/articles-1/10-amazing-health-benefits-of-bee-pollen. Enjoy.

Jalapeno cheese, you say?? This I must try. I’ve been off the egg train lately but I think it’s time to hop back on.
Because I’m not a food blogger but I eat like one and enjoy sharing my eats:
Breakfast: Smoothie with banana, spinach, coconut milk, almond butter, and Greek yogurt.
Pre-workout: Disgusting goo packet that’s supposed to give you energy and I got it free somewhere and I regret ever putting it in my mouth.
Lunch: A bowl of Indian food (leftover mishmash of basmati rice, chicken tikka masa, saag paneer, and some fresh spinach thrown in for good measure).
Snack: Honey BBQ chips aka my kryptonite.
Dinner: Baked tilapia, baked spinach cake thingys, sliced tomatoes in balsamic and olive oil, some bread to soak up the extra dressing.
Dessert: A scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Thanks for indulging me. Back to work…

Forgot to note that I sti have not used a nut butter jar as a receptacle for overnight oats or pudding. The idea intrigues me but not enough to manifest said creation.
