Game Day Appetizer Recipe Round Up

January 27, 2016 by Meghan 32 Comments

I hear there’s a big football game coming up.

The Hubby even told me last night who’s playing in it, not that I can actually remember.

You see, I’m not a huge fan of football. Shocking right?

Yeah, not so much.

When it comes to sports, I don’t waste my energy. I need to save my mental prowess for other things; better things, foodie things.

Plus, sitting around watching a bunch of men in tight costumes moaning and grunting, while playing with balls of various shapes and sizes, isn’t my idea of a good time. In fact, it sounds a bit like a bad porno or perhaps most men on a Tuesday night or any night of the week for that matter. I understand self satisfaction is a big deal for that gender. Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Now food on the other hand, that’s something I can happily embrace, preferably with both hands before promptly shoveling it into my face. I don’t even need a costume or the privacy of my own home to do it.

Score!

Today, I’ve decided to leave the football to the pros, professional athletes and porn stars alike, and instead share some of my favorite Game Day Appetizers.

Bring on the cheese!

Game Day Appetizer Round Up

A recipe round up of the best and cheesiest game day appetizers sure to please everyone.

Artichoke, Cheese and White Bean Dip

With the addition of white beans and Greek yogurt, this Dip is a lightened up version of a classic. The leftovers, should there be any, also make a fantastic grilled cheese, which is great for soaking up booze; not that I would know (cough, cough).

Artichoke & Cheese White Bean Dip F

Layered Taco Dip

This is a fan favorite with my friends. They beg me for it every year, and I certainly wouldn’t want to disappoint them.

Taco Dip 2

Garlic and Herb Veggie and Chip Dip

Amid the beer, the booze, the bread and the cheese (all of which I support), this flavor packed Herb Dip is a nutrient dense oasis. You’ll be surprised at how quickly those veggies disappear.

Healthy Garlic & Dip Herb

Harvest Sweet Potato Salsa

Shake up your traditional salsa and invite sweet potatoes to the party instead. One bite and your friends will thank you.

Harvest Sweet Potato Salsa

Cheesy Mexican Stuffed Baguette

This one needs no explanation. I could devour this entire baguette in a matter of seconds.

cheesy-mexican-stuffed-baguette

Baked Jalapeno Cheese Crisps

Baked crispy cheese with spicy things on top. I’ll take ten.

low-carb-jalapeno-cheese-chips-1-of-1-3

Fruit Bowl

Simple, elegant, a pain in the ass to chop, and totally worth it. Besides, a little hydration helps cut tomorrow’s hangover, but I don’t need to tell you that.

Christmas 2015 Giant Fruit Bowl

Cheesy Baked Black Bean Flautas

Clearly I have a things for beans, cheese and bread; with good reason I might add.

A Standup Snack Platter

No party is complete with a glorious snack platter, incorporating all of your favorite things with a few surprises.

Snack Platter for Dinner

Guacamole Stuffed Potato Skins

It wouldn’t be a full on recipe round up from me without a little extra spud loving tossed into the mix. I could eat these for days, not that they’d last that long.

I wouldn’t turn down any of these tasty vittles! They all look good, much more exciting than watching the game. My mom and I traditionally do something anti sports during the biggest game of the year. I wonder what we’ll do this time.

I really want to try the white bean artichoke dip. I love white beans and feel they are underutilized as people love their black beans. That’s what I would have

You had me at cheese crisps. I have always loved crispy cheese and with jalapenos I wouldn’t have to share these with my husband and kids. Win! I’m not a big football fan either, though i can always count on it when I need a good nap. Bring on the food!

Super Bowl Sunday is basically happening in the middle of the night here. Stefan always takes Monday off so that he can watch the game. Though in the middle of the night of course there are snacks involved. I go to bed and don’t watch a minute of the game but I certainly claim my share of the snacks!

The Artichoke, Cheese and White Bean Dip is on my list. Maybe it’s a good excuse to make them as a game snack. So the hubby eats something healthy. Great round-up. I could faceplant everything!

Thanks for including my baguette πŸ™‚

If you make the Artichoke Cheese Dip, set some aside for a Panini. So. freaking. good.

David and I are football fans so will defintiely be watching the Super Bowl… But I will need something I can eat for breakfast as it will be on at 6.30am Monday morning here! Heck I will just make something ‘appy’ and add an egg on top – that makes it breakfast right?! And sadly no booze this year as david has to head to work after πŸ™

I’ve had that white bean artichoke dip on my list for ages now, and since I’ve now conquered my fear of the little guys (thanks to you) I’d say I reaaalllyy need to get on it. I always thought football was rather entertaining – but much more for the reasons you mention than anything actually to do with sports.

I’m not a football fan either – I just don’t understand it! John keeps on trying to explain it to me, but it never makes sense. I’m not a big sports person in general, with the exception of hockey (I think Canada would kick me out of the country if I didn’t say that haha).

I actually had to Google who was playing in the Super Bowl this year, and it was YOU who told me that the Super Bowl was actually in the beginning of February πŸ˜† I know nothing about football, and I’m pretty sure it’s more of an American thing than a Canadian one, because I don’t even really have any friends who are interested in it. We’re hockey people. But food? That’s definitely something I can always get down with.
