Week in Review: Fun, Food, and Family (#120)

February 19, 2018 by Meghan 24 Comments

Get you pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.

The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Need more details? Head here.

♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫

Let’s get listing:

With Ave fully recovered from her cold, we got up to our usual shenanigans last week. We did Baby and Me story time at the local library, we sang Valentine’s Day songs in music class, and we attended our last swim lesson. I’m debating whether to sign up for another round because the tiny dictator is water obsessed.

We did lots of cooking last week, including our own version of this Artichoke Bread Pudding (it was really good), bean and corn quesadillas (which includes all of Ave’s favorite foods, yet she won’t eat them (insert eye roll here)), and of course our favorite healthy banana bread recipe.

(Sometimes we get silly with out food, or at least I do.)

We made multiple batches of snickerdoodle granola so I could share a new recipe with all of you. Believe me, you definitely want to make this one. It’s rich and buttery, packed with clusters of cashew butter and sprinkled lavishly with cinnamon sugar. Even Oscar’s a fan.

Speaking of my furry feline, the whole family took Oscar to the vet for his annual physical, on Valentine’s Day, because we’re romantic like that. We had Chipotle for dinner too. The Hubby went out and picked it up; he’s my hero.

We also hit up the playground twice on warmer days. Ave has become enamored with the slides, and it’s super interesting to watch her tackle things easily she couldn’t quite do independently last Fall.

(Ave and her bestie, gossiping at the playground.)

On Friday, Ave and I hit the road and headed to Buffalo to hang with my family. We got spoiled rotten and fed “tasty” food (Ave’s words), which included lots of ice cream, M&M’s and pastry hearts. It wasn’t all sugar though; we had homemade mac and cheese and a fabulous bean soup.

We stayed with my dad and stepmom and had and still are having a wonderful time. It’s always a plus when you have a higher adult to child ratio. It’s allowed me to work out a handful of times and shower without an audience. Such bliss; it’s the little things in life.

We concluded the week with family dinner on Sunday night, and the whole gang, minus my older brother, made an appearance. Ave had a blast with her cousins, and nobody went home hungry.

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.

What is something you accomplished in the last week? Big or small. Have you ever had a pastry heart? They’re buttery, flaky and covered in a rich, heavy layer of icing. They’re also my kryptonite.

Mmmm I’m jealous of your family time. I could use that again anytime now. So many tasty treats last week – we were banana bread twins – and I’m soooo glad Ave was finally able to kick the bug out. Slides are pretty enamoring aren’t they? I’m glad they still have them. I’m glad they still have playgrounds at all….. and not just fields of iPads.

The playground is one of Ave’s favorite places and it’s full of the activities of our youth, although a little fancier and safer now.

Awww that family dinner looks so fun! I LOVE time to have family dinners together; that’s a huge blessing. And the CHUNKS on that snickerdoodle granola are EPIC! 🙂 i want to just reach into the picture and grab some.

Banana bread is so good. I have a bunch of bananas. I need to make some….

Yes, banana bread is always a winner, especially when you share it with family. 🙂

That artichoke bread pudding looks dreamy! Just had to look up what a pastry heart was so that’s a no I’ve never had it!
Glad you were able to share child watching duties and hang out with your family this past week. 🙂

Eyy, I made banana bread this weekend too! My fave is the chocolate chip banana bread from Chocolate Covered Katie, but I love Amanda’s recipe as well! I’ve never had a pastry heart, but they sound intriguing!

My Hubby would absolutely disagree but I’m not a fan of chocolate chips in banana bread. I’d much prefer walnuts or some other fruit. I know, something must be wrong with me. 🙂

Ah, I’m glad to hear Ave’s all well again. Being sick is never fun; much less for a tiny human.
You really know how to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style ;). I bet Oscar wasn’t as enthusiastic about the day.
    P. is a fan of the slides, too. Good thing it’s not me going to the playground with him, though, because I’d be so scared of him getting hurt. Yes, reason #46789756 I shouldn’t have kids.
Enjoy your time at your dad’s (at least it sounds like you’re still there?) with all the solo showers and workout opportunities. Oh and tasty food, obviously.

Thankfully, Oscar forgave me within a few hours.

We drove back to Cleveland yesterday, but it was a wonderful weekend. I love hanging with family.

Really did look like you had a blast in Buffalo! Love seeing you and your dad relishing in some banter!
So pleased that Ave is feeling so much better and back to all her usual fun and games. Although missy Ave, why you so fussy over the bean and corn quesadilla’s?!

Who knows why she wouldn’t eat the quesadillas? Trying to reason or rationalize with a toddler is like beating your head into a wall. I’ve long since given up and made her deconstructed quesadillas instead. Ha!

My long weekend in Buffalo was a blast. I love being able to spend time with family.

I’m so glad Aves feeling better! Showering without an audience. Haha. What’s that like? I don’t mind though since I think it’s funny to watch this tiny person explore each nook and cranny of our bathroom and sing to herself.
I’m glad you all had such a lovely time in Buffalo. It’s awesome to have connection.
I’d love a pastry heart that sounds pretty damn tasty.

I usually let Ave watch Elmo’s world on the iPad while I shower. She gets excited though when Mr. Noodle comes on and has to show me, so I get to shower in front of her AND him. Ha!

Pastry hearts are one of my favorites.

The park and the playground is pretty much Ave’s favorite place. She’s obsessed with the slides right now. We’re supposed to have a couple warmer days next week so hopefully we’ll be able to go.
