“Heeeey Yoooou Guuuuuys.”
Every single time I say or type that phrase, I immediately think of Sloth from Goonies, so it’s only fair I spread the love and share the wealth or my weirdness with all of you. I like to share, and if you’ve never seen Goonies, I’m not sure if we can still be friends because you are way too young for me. In an effort to fight off aging, I’m only going to surround myself with people twenty plus years and older from now on. I think I’m onto something here.
So I’m assuming you’re not here to learn about all my anti-aging issues (I found another gray patch last night….not a hair, a whole patch, mind you). Instead, you’re here for What I Ate Wednesday, sponsored by our Hostess with the Mostess, Ms. Jenn from Peas and Crayons. You want to see my eats, and I’m guessing you’ll be wanting to see a whole day of them too. After all, isn’t that sort of the point of WIAW.
Well, I’m afraid I’m going to have to disappoint you today. I’ve only got a half day of food to share because when you sleep until noon on Sunday, you kind of miss breakfast; at least in my house. That’s not totally true though. I did eat breakfast, but I ate it at lunch time, so I really skipped lunch. The point is I don’t have a full day of food to share because I didn’t eat a full day (bad food blogger, bad). Instead, I was out partying with people much younger than me on Saturday night. Even at my age, I can still hang, although hang might not be the right word because it implies gravity, which is definitely not my friend. If I could, I’d take gravity out back and beat the crap out of it. My non-violence stance does not apply to gravity and somehow I’ve gotten back to aging. On with the food.
I inhaled a smoothie first thing upon waking Sunday afternoon. It had bananas, blueberries, a little pineapple juice, and it tasted exactly like blueberry cobbler. I have no idea why or how, but it was good and gone in sixty seconds. Alright it really took me like five minutes to put down the whole jar, and if I’m being totally honest, the Hubby snagged a sip too. Still being honest, I didn’t want to share with him.
I was however more than happy to share breakfast, albeit eaten at lunch time (man, this must be confusing).
Since I already had the blueberries out, and we had picked up a loaf of this amazing Portuguese bread from the Breadsmith, which was described as “light, zesty, citrusy, and pillowy,” I knew I had to make French Toast. Let me tell you, this French Toast rocked my world, in a really good way. I would eat this every day if it wouldn’t make me obese. Sadly it would, so every so often shall have to suffice.
Speaking of blueberries, do you know they can help fight aging? It’s why I’ve been eating a pint full a week, and likely the reason I was able to stay out so late on Saturday. The latter claim might be a stretch, but it sounds cool and it’s my blog so I’m rolling with it. What isn’t a stretch is blueberries are like a wonder drug, so go forth and eat them in mass quantities. As usual, you don’t have to take my word for it (although I’m not sure why you wouldn’t since my non-medical degree supports my hypothesis, and I use cool words like hypothesis, thereby giving me credibility), you can read all about them here.

After such a decadent lunch, breakfast or whatever you want to call it, I knew a satisfying and veggie packed dinner was most certainly in order. It doesn’t hurt that this month’s theme is Love Your Veggies either. In an effort to do just that and maybe detox my system, I made veggie stir fry with cauliflower, green beans, asparagus, red onion, green and red bell peppers, and broccoli. I have listed them clockwise, in order of appearance below, starting with the cruciferous vegetable at the top left. Few things trump alpha order. This does though, and lots of veggies equal lots of deliciousness.
I sautéed them all in a bit of olive oil and some seasonings (can you say Citrus Rosemary Salt; I can) and gently laid them on a bed of seven grains. I really like the Seeds of Change Seven Whole Grains packages. They come with long grain brown rice, wild rice, barley, oats, spelt and bulgur. Basically, they are awesome and a perfect complement to a boatload or plateful, if you want to get technical about it, of veggies. A glass of wine wouldn’t hurt either, but I refrained.
I think it’s fair assessment to say I love my veggies, especially because I ate this exact same dinner last Thursday night too.
Tell me about a day of your eats? What’s your favorite French Toast topping? Do you have anti-aging issues too? Should I roll around in a bathtub of blueberries. I’d try it, if you said it’d help.
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
I repeat my veggie combos so many times. Usually because when I go to the produce market, the sell the produce by the ton and if you buy cabbage you have enough for an army…etc with every veggie. Also I just love the same basic combinations! Have a great day, Meghan!
Meghan says
That’s how it is when I’m getting a weekly CSA share. I can’t wait for those days again. Happy WIAW Fran.
Jessie says
I dare you… no i double dare… no i triple dare you to bath in blueberries!!! 🙂
Meghan says
Did you know they do a lot of double dog daring in Goonies? If you double dog dared me, well then it’s on!
kirsten@FarmFreshFeasts says
Would it help you to know that my teen/tween have seen Goonies and would get your reference? My spouse takes their cultural education quite seriously.
Lovely photos, Meghan!
Meghan says
I’m uber impressed your tweens know Goonies. I must say, I think me and your spouse would hit it off remarkably well. He sounds like a class act to me.
kirsten@FarmFreshFeasts says
‘your spouse and I’ says my mother’s voice in my head
But yeah, he is a class act and I’m gonna miss him while he’s gone.
Meghan says
Gosh darn it, the me’s and I’s always get me. I’m sorry to hear he’s leaving again, and I hope it’s not too soon.
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes says
Your French toast looks too good to eat! 🙂
Meghan says
I’m going to have to agree, but then again I’m partial to my own photos. I was super excited with how they came out.
Eating 4 Balance says
Oh boy. My brother has been saying “Hey you guys” constantly ever since he downloaded a Sloth mod on his Skyrim game. I have to admit that I’ve only seen parts of the Goonies…
Sorry to hear about your gray patch. Would it make you feel better that I saw a silver hair yesterday morning? I’m only 18 for crying out loud! Haha. My dad grayed early, so I probably will too 🙁
Speaking of food… I know everyone is going to tell you your french toast looks delicious, but I think your plate of veggies looks amazing! I be that citrus rosemary salt is great.
Meghan says
Flavored salts are a ton fun and super easy. They take all the guesswork out of it for you. I’m sorry you saw a silver hair yesterday, although I like the sound of silver better than gray. I may have to borrow that. My Hubby is addicted to Skyrim, so I’ll have to let him know about Sloth mode. Now go watch Goonies. Please.
Eating 4 Balance says
Haha. Yes Mam 😉
Meghan says
You mean Miss because Ma’am is for old people, and I’m definitely not old….although I am turning silver 😉
Eating 4 Balance says
You’re completely right. My mistake 🙂
kim@hungryhealthygirl says
I’m eating tons of blueberries right now in my cereal…..you have to do what you can, right? Your French toast looks awesome!! I top mine with a drizzle of maple syrup and fruit. And I love the Goonies….my son actually got the movie for Christmas this past year. Have a great WIAW!
Meghan says
Goonies is a classic, and you can bet I topped my French Toast with maple syrup. That just came after the pictures, and it was sooo good. I love blueberries in my cereal; it’s the best.
Nikki @ The Road to Less Cake says
Oh my goodness does that French toast look amazing.
Meghan says
Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate the comment Nikki.
Sunnie@ModernGirlNutrition says
That smoothie looks amazing! And that French toast- enough said:)

Thanks Sunnie. Love my a.m. smoothies, regardless of what time I drink them.
Melissa says
I love The Goonies, and I seriously love that you started my morning with a Goonies quote. Thank you!
I’ve been having a french toast craving lately, and the blueberries make me want it even more! Looks wonderful.
Meghan says
Goonies is a classic, and I love that I’m a part of your morning.
Renee @ Fit For Motherhood says
Oh my goodness, your french toast looks amazing. I have been craving it lately, but I haven’t made it yet. Now I think it might just have to be my lunch today. 🙂
Meghan says
You should. Like stat.
Ali @ WHOLEistically Fit says
Haha, I wouldn’t have wanted to share that smoothie with my hubby, either. 😉 Or, that delish French Toast for that matter. Yum!
Meghan says
I know. Sharing can be hard sometimes. This was one of those times.
Jess @ JessieBear What Will You Wear says
I’m so into those veggies. Like I would take them on a date. (Too weird?). Also, I totally thought I found a buunch of gray hairs (I’m not even 21!) because I’ve been letting my hair dye grow out for the first time since I was like 12, and it turns out they’re just blonde highlights…. apparently I have blonde highlights… who the hell knew?! haha
Meghan says
Yes, very weird, but then again who am I to decided what’s too weird.
You are not even 21 and you have natural blonde highlights! I so don’t want to like you right now, but since you asked out my veggies, we’re still cool.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Blueberries are the bomb!! I am so glad that they have been on sale a lot lately!
And that dinner??…YUM!!
Meghan says
Thanks Hannah. I appreciate you stopping by and sending me some comment love.
Brittany says

I need to just watch it already. There are actually a lot of movies I haven’t seen that I “should have seen.” HAHA. Loveeee your dinner omg yum!
Meghan says
You told me I’m not aging so I complete forgive you for not watching Goonies yet. In fact, I’d let pretty much anything slide based on your lovely comment.
GiGi Eats Celebrities says
LMFAO! Don’t roll around in a bathtub full of blueberries, roll around in a bathtub full of coconut oil!!! 😉
And that french toast, my my, so sinful looking!! I am so hungry right now!
Meghan says
Coconut oil, huh. I may try that. Do I use a spoonful or the whole tub full?
Dana @ Conscious Kitchen Blog says
Haha – love the Goonies reference. The smoothie looks delicious – a great way to start the day.
Meghan says
Yeah I really like smoothies first thing in the morning because they are not too heavy but still pack a good burst of nutrients.
MassachusEATS says
Citrus Rosemary Salt sounds SO good ! Especially on those gorgeous veggies!
Meghan says
Thanks. I love a big plate of veggies.
Olivia @ Liv Lives Life says
Ohhh my goshhhhh everything looks so good and healthy. I love all of the bright colors!
Meghan says
Thanks, the veggies were good and healthy. The French Toast maybe not so much, but all good things in moderation, right.
rebecca @ blueberry smiles says
I love berries on my french toast! And YES, I should eat more blueberries…I feel like I’m way too close to getting wrinkles, yuck
Meghan says
Fight your wrinkles; eat your blueberries. We should start a campaign for blueberries; we have a great slogan.
Kathy @ FoodWineThyme says
Oh gosh that smoothie and breakfast look amazing. I’ve been having smoothies daily for breakfast and Im making this one tomorrow morning
Meghan says
I like to freeze my bananas and then use the frozen ones in my smoothies. I don’t have to use any ice and I still get a creamy texture. I hope you make this, and I hope you love it.
luv what you do says
Yea Goonies!
I love that movie and say that quote all the time : )
I love French toast with strawberries and whipped cream. This looks like one day of delicious eats!
Oh! Almost forgot…the new topper looks great!
Meghan says
I love anything with strawberries and whipped cream and I’m happy to hear there are more Goonies fans out there.
Jess says
Damn, that French toast looks amazing! I like to top it with ricotta and fresh fruit, but your photos totally make a case for blueberries & powdered sugar.
Meghan says
That sounds delicious too. The powdered sugar was delicious but it was more for the picture effect. Guilty as charged.
Allie says
That is one pretty blender full of fruit. And holy cow French toast! I’m coming over for breakfast. Even if it’s lunchtime. Or dinner. And those Seeds packages are amazing. I don’t think I’ll ever be patient enough to cook rice or barley (okay, theoretically I could cook big batches on weekends–but I never plan that far in advance), so those are some meal-savers. My anti-aging is listening to out-of-date hip-hop (my favorite) and continuing to live in the 90s. Because it’s all about how young you feel, right? So I’ll just keep pretending I’m a teenager. Denial=Secret to eternal youth?
Meghan says
I like photographing the blender and it’s various layers more than I do the end result because I think it’s prettier. Silly but true.
Odd of date hip hop rocks, no pun intended, especially when you sing/rap all the words, which I’m sure you to with appropriate hand flailing and thug posing, as needed.
Good plan on aging. I like denial; I’m a big fan.
Bunny, C. says
I like to keep my french toast reeaally simple; I’m talking just butter and powdered sugar! But trust me, I’m not always such a “vanilla” girl ;p P.s. I love the name of your blog!!
Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says
Haha! LOVE the Goonies! Oh man, it’s been forever since I’ve seen that!
That French toast looks amaaaaaazing! And blueberries…oh my gosh, I’ve been craving them like mad lately! I love topping my French toast with peanut butter…and pumpkin butter if I have it…tho I’ve been too afraid to buy any since the Great Sweet Potato Butter Incident of 2013 went down…RIP sweet creamy orange goodness, R…I…P.
Meghan says
Goonies is a classic, and sweet potato butter…oh my word. It sounds divine.
