Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back or smack on the ass. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Need more details? Head here.
♫ You can do it, put your list into it. ♫
The Hubby’s brothers and their family were in town last week so I knew we were going to be spending every moment together. As a result, I removed my expectations for normalcy. I gave myself a pass on all things blogging and general adulting. Without my own added pressure, we had a really great and stress free week. Granted, I intend to spend the next few days recovering, curled up with my kid and a coffee cup, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
Let’s get listing:
We spent Monday at my in-laws just chilling and grilling; out that is. Fresh salmon, hotdogs, and corn on the cob. Ave got her mitts on the latter for the first time, and she’s definitely a fan, which isn’t surprising given her love of all things edible.
On Tuesday, we headed to Toledo for a fourth of July party with more extended family. We went swimming, socialized and ate all the food. After a day of rousing play, Ave slept right through the fireworks while we watched from our front yard.
On Wednesday, we did our usual park circuit, only this time with cousins, aunts and uncles in tow. Later on, the adults went out for dinner while grandma and grandpa baby sat the little people. This was Ave’s first time going to bed without nursing first, which is huge. I see freedom in my future.
On Thursday, we had lunch on the East Bank at Coastal Taco where Ave went to town on my Spanish lentil tacos and black beans. After eating, we walked along the boardwalk before swinging by the Cleveland sign for a family picture. In the evening, the Hubby and I hosted a planned pizza party at our house, where we made and served up five different kinds of pizza, including a Buffalo blue cheese chicken pizza and a veggiefied pie. No one left hungry.
Friday found us back at the in-laws house and the local swimming hole. Ave had a blast and I got to hit the water slide with my niece. I totally screamed on the way down. That same night, we dined alfresco at Humble Wine Bar and listened to Carlos Jones play, a local reggae artist, while grandma and grandpa baby sat once more.
On Saturday, we hosted an impromptu brunch at our house complete with mimosas, Breadsmith pastries and Swiss chard from the garden. We hung out at the house all day until the last brother left for the airport. That night, I was in bed by 9:30 p.m. and asleep by 9:32 p.m..
On the seventh day, we rested, also known as grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, and cavorting in the kitchen. All in all, it was a phenomenal week.
It’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What are three things you accomplished in the last week? Big or small.
Evangeline says
Your brunch turned out phenomenally. Any guest who got to partake should feel like royalty. Wow what a filled week! Family time is such a joy, but as an introvert and a lover of routine, it’s exhausting. Hopefully this week will be a nice recoup for you.

I’m not sure about royalty, especially when you factor in everyone contributed either by bringing food, doing some kitchen work or both. I put my guests to work. Ha!!

Phenomenal. Is. Right. This is an incredible WIR. And seriously?? You have the most photogenic child I have ever witnessed. She seriously just grabbed the corn like that!? Yes Ave!
What lucky grandparents to get in so much alone time with Ave. Thank you to them for letting you adults get in some delicious eats. Congratulations to both of you for the first night without nursing – that must feel pretty big for you. Oh, and no waterslide ride is complete without a good scream.
So glad you had an awesome week!!

It was a great week and mainly because I gave myself a pass on my own to do lists. I would have made myself banana shorts trying to get it all done and have fun. This way, I got to have a great time without stress.
Ave loves her food. Just like momma.

Meg,
I love how you let expectations go and thrived, nay, soared thru the week. Well done!
I’m trying to let my expectations go. Yes, yes, Yoda says there is no try. But still.
I accomplished sending my spouse off for parts known, St Paul, but hey–no one’s shooting at him this time.
That’s a plus.
I also sent my girl off for parts semi-known (the college just down the hill) for a Women in Engineering camp. And then 6.5 hrs later I dropped off her forgotten headphones, hat, shampoo, conditioner, and comb in a 15 minute round trip which did NOT involve a hug and a kiss. Sigh.
I remember when she had messy-face-satisfied-smile photos in her highchair . . .
My biggest accomplishment, though, is my first recipe video. Shot entirely with my iPhone and dorked with in iMovie, it’s a freshman effort and I’m proud of it. All the versions (short for FB and long for the post). Practice will hopefully make perfect before I need to do it for real.
Now to let go of expectations of getting a damn thing done before we leave on our epic trip in less than 2 weeks.
Have a lovely!

No gunfire is a huge plus. I’m happy for you both in that regard.
Your video was fantastic. I’m super impressed and need you to teach me your ways, O’ Wise One. I made one using Lumen5 at your suggestion, and I really liked it, although it’s not quite the real deal.
Enjoy your trip! I hope you’re going somewhere fun.

Buffalo chicken and bleucheese pizza is my FAVORITE. Fun fact: we picked it up on the way home from our wedding. Best pizza I ever had. Also, Ave’s black bean face Glad you got to eat some good food and spend time with family and let the rest go.

OMG HER FOOD FACE IN THAT PHOTO!!! Ha ha ha! I love her grin. I love that kid. They put in those double swings at Cultus Lake–I saw them for the first time and wondered how they worked! Callum didn’t see them, thankfully, otherwise he’d be in that swing (and I as well) all day long. He’s obsessed with swings. I’m glad you guys had such a fun week! YAY! And good news about the nursing! FREEDOM!!!!

Well the nursing freedom was a one night deal, but it’s nice to know it’s possible.
Ave loves the swings too, so much that grandma and grandpa installed one in their backyard. 🙂

That pizza night you hosted… Woah you really are the queen of pizza topping pairings… Both david and I wanted a slice of each! And I still don’t know how you worked your magic and pulled together that brunch so quickly – your sense of calm an hour before everyone arrived was inspiring.

Since it was an impromptu brunch, I basically had no time to panic. That and I value my free time while Ave naps so fiercely that I refused to panic. And in the end, everyone brought something and it all worked out wonderfully.

Yay for living more stress-free and saying yes to the now. Loving that video! Score: Ave – 1, Corn – 0
Dining al fresco is the way to go in my opinion. That charcuterie board is mezmerizing.

Well now, that truly sounds like a beyond phenomenal week. Any chance I can join you the next time one of those packed with family fun and food rolls around?
Safe to say Ave is a going to become a foodie – I especially like her fondness of legumes as pictured ;). And a night without nursing? You win! Makes me wonder if girls are easier to let go off their mum’s boobs. A colleague of mine weaned her baby girl after around nine months or so, I think? Not happening for P. yet ;).
