Get your pads and pens ready because it’s time for the Week In Review.
The Week In Review is a list, in its purest form, not of the things you still need to do, but of all the things you have done in the last seven days. It’s an achievement list, an ode to yourself, a celebration of sorts, and a virtual pat on the back.
Need more details? Head here. ♫You can do it, put your list into it.♫
In the meantime, let’s get listing:
- Last week, I picked up my newest CSA haul, and now I have a small mountain of apples adorning my kitchen counters, which says nothing about the pile of pumpkins in my basement. I think they’re watching me.
- I attacked the garden, tossing out plants and salvaging any remaining produce, including a handful of carrots and these glorious potatoes, which was legit the highlight of my week. For real, I grew potatoes people. That’s huge. I feel like Batman. First the spuds, next the world. Cackle, cackle.
- I planted garlic, which means come Spring I will have Garlic Scapes galore and well… more garlic. It’s like magic, not to be confused with that scientific mumbo jumbo the Hubby is always going on about. Pfft.
- I packed in and covered up our raised garden bed with compost and shredded leaves because “Winter is coming,” she says in her best John Snow voice.
- I hit up the grocery store (twice), the dry cleaners (twice), the library, and the pet store because my felines need food too. They’re a demanding sort.
- Speaking of, I lounged with this girl, quite literally. Now if I only I could pick up her mad perching skills. No matter, I’m sure that’s next in my Batman training course.
- I spent more hours at my day job than I care admit, and I fully expect to do the same this week.
- I walked with the Hubby through the fallen leaves and proceeded to jump on as many of them as possible. There’s something so very satisfying about that crispy, crunchy, crushed leaf sound.
- I cleaned the first floor of our house, washed bedding, folded clothes and picked up endless piles of cat fur. My felines are maniacs. I’m pretty sure they drop fur just to see my reaction.
- I shared three blog posts, including a recipe for Double Chocolate Coconut Granola, the Hubby’s newest favorite flavor.
- I went clothes shopping and had a lunch date with one of my besties, where I ordered a huge green salad. Say hello to my giant ball of guacamole. I’ll be honest, he scared me a little.
- I passed out buckets of candy to the trick or treaters and checked out the local decorations. We have some creative peeps in our hood.
- I made buns and not the kind you find in the gym either.
- I also learned how to use Snapchat. Thanks Spoons for teaching this old, yet super sassy and sexy dog new tricks. Come follow me and see my shenanigans, plus a lot of Oscar. He’s excited to get this party started.
- Last but certainly not least, I fell in love with the Week in Review all over again because for a minute there, I was lamenting all the things I didn’t get done when hello, I was clearly a champ last week. I know, ridiculous right!
Your turn. I want to hear from you. Link up and get yo’ list on.
What three things did you accomplish last week?
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
That’s definitely a huge guacamole scoop! You’re my hero because you’re potatoes and cleaned your house – mine is in dire need of it and with how sore I am it will have to wait!

Meghan,
I am very impressed–the only potato I’ve ever grown was from an ornamental sweet potato vine that happened to have an unimpressive sweet potato attached to it. Not the gorgeous purple and orange sweet potatoes I used in my Monkey bread (mentioned in last week’s WIR comment, appearing on a blog below).
I survived another week–that’s my big accomplishment.
I feel like I did very little of substance, but I took #1 to Cincy for sled hockey Monday night, #2 to Beavercreek for sewing Tuesday night, cheered and documented #1’s last marching band concert Wednesday night, clapped and documented #2’s fall orchestra concert and the first time, in 7 years of playing, that both kids have appeared on stage performing together.
I even got permission to attend rehearsal and take photos so I wouldn’t be That Parent, but I’m much better at taking photos of food than I am of a darkened stage full of musicians and a sunny auditorium.
Where were we? oh, that was Thursday night.
Friday night was #1’s senior recognition night at the last football game and I’ve got the wilting yellow rose to prove my participation. (photos apparently will follow).
Saturday we carved the volunteer garden squash (including a zucchini hybrid as well as some random winter squash) for our jack-o-lanterns and handed out the final piece of candy at 7:57. Trick or treating hours ended at 8.
The kid accompanying the lucky last kid had a handful of popcorn that I’d just popped for our snack, so he didn’t walk away empty handed.
Which brings us back to yesterday when I made even more colorful bread doughs, this time for a braided bread to appear later on the blog. I’ll get to braiding one of these days. It was enough to make 3 doughs yesterday though the bags are gonna explode in the fridge.
Oh! #2 cleaned ½ of the fridge yesterday, so that’s something. I’ll get the other half today, as I need to get the place spiffed up before my salsa & margaritas party later this week.
Until then, rock on with your buns, hun!

How could you accomplish anything of substance when your nights are spent carting kids around. I would have tossed in the towel on Tuesday. I say Kudos to you.
Your monkey bread is beautiful and now that I’ve conquered (alright fine dabbled in) yeast, I feel ready to take on some more breads.

OH MY GOSH! You grew potatoes? And now garlic? I am deeply impressed! I raise my non-existend hat to you! Also the guac makes me swoon, I love the granola and I am totally intrigued by those buns!
I think you have to explain snapchat to me know. You know, passing on the knowledge. I’ll pass it on next and so on! But expect me to be a tech-klutz 😉
I just realized I don’t know your other cat’s name? It’s a she?
Besides all, don’t you dare to think you don’t accomplish much. You put a lot of people out there to shame with your accomplishments!

I should have saved the giant scoop of guac for you. You might be disappointed to know I left it in the bowl, although the dressing was avocado so I had plenty of that stuff.
I’ll have to show you Snapchat. I’m still bumbling my way through it. I don’t find it to be super intuitive like FB or IG. We’ll have a tutorial when you’re in town.
I had like 10 others things I wanted to cook this weekend and the buns did me in. I have no regrets though and after typing it all out, I’m even impressed those happened.

Oh you always start my week off with a good laugh!! Congrats on the potatoes! From a completely self aware “black thumb,” I give you all my thumbs up if you grow anything at all. Its always a bit sad when you have to start taking down the garden as it means summer has come to an end, but now you get to enjoy all the amazing fruits (er, veggies) of your labour – and I suppose that’s the best part. I love me some guacamole, but you’re right, that mound is a wee terrifying. Hope you have a nice week, batman!

I figure just like we need time to rest and recharge, so does the garden. Winter is Nature’s way of making us all hibernate and recover.
Plus, I grew potatoes. I’m ending the season on a high note. 🙂

Awww! I was hoping to see the success of your quiche in here! But I’ll take the miracle that is growing your own potatoes, especially because I’m crazy obsessed with them at the moment. The bag I’m currently rocking is super good for roasting, and I’m kind of worried about finishing it because God knows not all potatoes are created equal. And can i steal some of your apples? I was hoping to play around with a few apple recipes, but I don’t have a single one in my kitchen. And I’m down to my last banana, too. I don’t know who I am anymore.

Since I didn’t do anything to make the quiche magic happen, other than make it years ago, I figured it’d be awkward in here. You’re probably right though.
I’ll share my bananas with you; my apples too. Hell, I’ve got enough of them.

Hi Meghan! I am quite impressed with the garden, so yes, you should feel very accomplished with what you’ve gotten done over the last week. Thanks for hosting this fun link-up, because looking at it all on the screen does make you realize you’ve done more than you think! Here’s to another productive week! (With plenty of guacamole and fresh produce, of course!)

Cheers to more fresh produce with a side of guacamole, hopefully not in a giant scoop though. That still freaks me out.

Oooh, you’re on Snapchat! I have it on my phone but always forget about it, then don’t answer snaps from friends until 2 weeks after they send them. Just not up on this whole technology thing, I guess- but I certainly look forward to following yours and Oscar’s adventures.
My Week in Review:
– Came up with a pretty good last-minute Halloween costume (Taping book covers onto my shirt + vampire make-up = “Well read and Undead”)
– Went on two (hopefully successful) job interviews
– Got a part in a TV commercial for Angry Orchard?? Haha this was definitely the most random thing that happened to me this week. It’s being filmed near my hometown, so I randomly sent in an application and even more randomly got selected to be in it. Basically, I’m gonna be star!
Meghan says
I love the costume idea and that is fantastic news about the interviews. I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you, not that you need it because I’m sure you charmed the pants off them. Not literally of course, unless it was that kind of interview.
You’re going to be famous. You’ll have to send me your autograph and I’ll say I knew you when…

WOW! you got a lot done this week and you grew potatoes!? I am jealous! I know I am going to try and grow a mini garden next summer but it is hard being in a townhouse – I never even thought of potatoes. Just another thing to add to my list when I am a home owner…. #goals

I actually grew the potatoes in a container so you could totally swing it in a townhouse.

that ball of green looks delicious! i ate too much guac last night and discovered that i actually do have a breaking point, luckily it passed quickly.
i still have yet to even open snapchat, download it, look it up, or whatever it is you do to make it appear. i can’t quite wrap my heard around it yet… but i’m tempted by your post, just a wee wee wee bit 😀

I bet you get all this accomplished and more. Once you start paying attention, you can actually see how much you do day in and day out. It’s amazing.
I have pounds and pounds of potatoes in my house right now. The food share is keeping me well stocked. I’ll probably end up roasting them all, although maybe I’ll save the homegrown ones for something special. Come eat them with me.

I totally miss walking through crunchy leaves… When we first arrived here there was leaves everywhere (well it was still winter) and I wanted to jump through them… Then David reminded me that piles of leaves are exactly where snakes like to live! Thanks David…
I need balls of guacamole like that in my life… Along with cheese guacamole makes everything better!
Thanks again honey for putting together this link up! It’s like a little bit of personal therapy!

Thankfully we don’t have snakes in our leaves here, although there might be a mouse or two. Sam and Oscar take care of those for me though.

You grew your potatoes??? Talk about legit!! I have been avoiding Snapchat for the longest time but I’m slowly coming around to it- although lord knows I don’t need ANOTHER social media to act as a distraction in my life! Excited to see what you turn those apples into- apple pie granola perhaps?
