I know there are people who wake up in the morning (the Hubby) and must eat right away. I am not one of those people and have never been one of those people. Coffee, of course, is a different story. When it comes to food though, I don’t feel hungry for at least two hours and I don’t really want to eat anything. Sadly, my body disagrees. My blood sugar goes low (at least this is what I think happens and, of course, my non-medical degree supports me here) and I start to get “hangry,” when hunger and anger intersect.
My alert signal is when silly things start to bother me or when the Hubby so kindly says, “Maybe you should eat something.” While I might not feel hungry, my body is telling me something different, and it really is amazing what our bodies tell us when we are willing to listen. So, I compromise by drinking a homemade smoothie in the morning. Despite the fact I’m really eating fruit sometimes mixed with soy yogurt, it’s in liquid form so I feel like it’s manageable. And it takes literally five minutes, tastes delicious and makes me a lot nicer to be around.
Today’s smoothie was a banana, strawberries, some pineapple juice and a scoop of flax powder for good measure. And let me tell you, this breakfast (or start of breakfast because I eat again an hour or two later) never makes me feel bloated, fatigued or uncomfortably full. Instead, I feel energized and fit; what a great way to start the day.
